They have had the cannons on doubleM on constantly for the last 2 days, I got back in the early hours of this morning (at work so will update later)
DoubleM was complete and open, i'd say it was a challenge but perfectly do-able. (We snowboarders managed it ok anyway)
Although a guy from our hotel had to use mountain rescue after injuring a shoulder near the start of the run.
Yesterday they had made aload of snow and had 4 piste bashers pushing the man made snow around
Had a great few days, no new snow but blue skies and bright sunshine, + no wind whatsoever
"doubleM was rideable back to Val Claret last week, but the bottom half was pretty sketchy. Sheet ice and broken at 2 points"

Hi all - not sure if anyone can help. Got back on Sunday from the Ski & Board Camp with MountainSun and am now trying to book our next lads weekend for January. After having raved about Tignes to the rest of the group they now want me to try and book for Jan - Unfortunately MountainSun are fully booked for the dates we are looking for (12 - 16th Jan) and I'm really struggling to find anyone else offering long weekends in Tignes.
Does anyone know of any other companies offering weekend trips to Tignes??? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

reded78, since that's a 'quieter' week of the season after the New Year rush you should be able to get sorted out somewhere. Some suggestions:-
Check the tignes.co.uk website for accommodation and email them for help. I think I remember seeing a chalet on there in Le Lac which does 'short' stays.
Email Jill at the Alpaka as she may be able to offer you a short stay for your group (Alpaka is in Le Lac as well in case you didn't know).
There is another place (not stayed there mind) down in Tignes Les Brevieres called Chalet Chardons or something who might be able to assist.
Try those out for quotes for starters, I'm sure you'll find something.
The UCPA in Tignes maybe an option too? Not sure if they do short stays though and I've not stayed there myself.

Oh, and I think the Diva in Val Claret does short stays as well. All of the above options-you'd need to sort your own flights out and use the Altibus or something to get there from Geneva. Easily done if you can find some digs.

We've been saying that for a month now... Alarm bells now beginning to ring slightly all over Europe me thinks. Or maybe I am unduly pessimistic...
Tignes is looking decent with a lot of (man made) vertical and Val Thorens still looks dodgy - depsite their attempts with the man made stuff. Then again they are guaranteeing opening on Saturday 26th and the official website says they guarantee a return to the town on snow. Hats off to them if they manage to pull it off, although the snow making may have to go into overdrive!
We have a lads' weekend pencilled in for 8th December but daren't book flights yet! Fingers and toes crossed!!

Yeah we've got a w/e booked in for the 10th of December. My brother is working in Val this season, but we'll go where the snow is. The weather forecast looks poor with more dry weather. The snow was gash last year, so lets hope we are not going to have two crappy seasons. Mind you off to Canada in late Feb.

VolklAttivaS5, many thanks for the tips - will give them a try.
red 27, doesn't have to be Tignes, just that we've been there before and love the tignes area. I've got an offer from MountainSun for Wednesday to Sunday for Paradiski but doesn't fit as well for one of the guys coming. Still have it under consideration though - what's thoughts on Paradiski compared with Espace Killy?

reded78, I will be making my first ever trip to EK this March with MS so I'll tell you then!
I was amazed by the P-ski area, particularly Les Arcs. Miles better IMV the the 3v. I am no great fan of French ski stations but the the variety and scope here is impressive. Great tree skiing and excellent eating on the mountain too.
Les Coches is a also a brilliant base to explore both sides. Worth noting that La Plagne is unspeakably ugly, which may help members of the party homesick for Tignes.

It's going to puke with snow non-stop from the 28th November for 2 weeks solid, then go dry just up to before Christmas, then puke again throughout new year and on and off again every couple of weeks until mid April.
It's going to be the best season ever!!!!
hopefully

Managed 4 Tignes trips last winter: powder in November and January and winter snow at altitude over May Day weekend. Also had 3 powder days in Flachau, 2 at Cairngorm and 2 more in the 3 Vallees. Managed 37 days on snow between Dec and May - of which 9 were powder days. A crappy winter indeed .......

Val d'Isere official newsletter today announced that they will be opening this weekend as planned but only a selection of lifts up the Solaise e.g. Madelaine and Glacier lifts and run areas and Fornet up on the glacier but skiing down into town will not be for a little while longer and the link to / from Tignes will NOT be opening yet a while!

Request for anyone in the EK next week. Keep the info on conditions coming. Interested to know if its worth coming out at all. Looking at 2nd or 3rd week of December. Seems though only runs with snow cannon are going to be open - e.g. off the Motte. Understand the resorts will open as publicised. I know the EK very well (15+ weeks) so I only need a summary. Definitely out in Tignes for 2 weeks in March.
I have had a b****y awful year and need a ski fix asap

thefatcontroller, As you know I was there too, in fact for the last 4 years for opening weekend. So there's not much snow, but there's still plenty to ski and the sun is shining. Still better than a good day in the office. I'm on the plane this afternoon.

Normally I do not make double posts, but as this talks mostly about Tignes, I thought I would share this post I just made on my Les Arcs Winter facebook page and the Les Arcs season thread on snowheads with everyone as it may cheer you up
From Facebook:
Something to cheer everyone up a little, although if you are thinking of going 'off piste', please do heed the warning that is given should the snow really arrive in time! This is from an email I was sent by someone in Tignes. Although not Les Arcs, from what I understand it is similar conditions there as well. Lets all be positive now and fingers crossed for the predicted snow to arrive.
.................................................................................................................
Snow folks,
Bad snow situation in Europe right now, but that is all about to change.
This comming weekend 3rd/4th Dec sees the high over the Alps retreating and Atlantic weather from the North west is going to pound the Alps after.
So the following weekend 10th/11th could be very good.
In reply another person wrote,
When it dumps it will most likely be extremely dangerous initially as there is no base so be careful. The last snowfall is now old snow and has gone through many f/thaw cycles.
At the moment the only lifts open in Tignes are over in Val Claret with Double M being the return on artificial snow. Hard packed and icy. Softer higher up.
La Rosiere, bathing in the sunshine, has a few blobs of man made snow around the snow cannon but none of them are large enough to even think about making into a piste.
Looking up at the top lift at St Foy and the ridge over to La Foggy at the mo. and the snow is a no show. Most of the ground below around 2500m is only frozen in the shade. Just had a picnic with the kids in Tignes le Lac at 2100m in beautiful warm sunshine without coats. Temps drop when the sun goes down but it isn't particularly cold at the mo. The permanent snow line is rising back up the mtn by the day as it evaporates in the very dry air.
Cheers
(Thanks for sharing this guys)
