Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Smokin Joe, my van is covered over again. I don't think we've had quite 4 inches though. Perhaps it is on it's way south. Happy. Unbelievable. I haven't seen this much UK snow since I lived in Dipton. I think I have to go and dig my parents out of there.

Went to the theatre tonight - snowing quite a bit as I walked over Hungerford Bridge, but a substantial thaw by the time I got out of the theatre. The slush was beginning to freeze underfoot as I got home. Hmm, wonder what tomorrow will bring. Just hope that the forecast for warmer weather on Saturday is correct and that Gatwick runways can be cleared.

Driving from South Cheshire to Aviemore there was a couple of miles after Glencoe that was snow free - the rest was snowy to varying levels (we came Glasgow way to avoid Perth).

Indeed, it was magical with all the lights against the snow. (Sorry to sound vague when you phoned - was in the pub, expecting a call from the people I was meeting. As soon as I find a performance of Marriage of Figaro, you'll be the first to know. Toofy Grin)

Well despite my extensive Alpine driving experience and frequent pontificating about snow chains, winter tyres etc. it didn't even occur to me to leave the handbrake off last night when I had picked up my grand-daughter from her friend's rather icy side road. Consequently it must have frozen overnight and by the time the OH had taken her a few miles up the road to school today there was a nasty smell of burning. We are likely to have to change the cables, at least, when we are back home tomorrow (according to the local garage who freed the cables....). It's much warmer tonight, but the damage is done.

It's been a sunny but very sub zero day today, so the snow has formed an icy crust. However, it's now been snowing again on top of that, another 3-4 inches maybe and still coming down.

But tonight is one night we don't want snow: off to Pontypool for Excel training tomorrow!

I reckon the heavy snow when I went to bed last night must have turned to rain overnight. The snow isn't lovely and soft and fluffy anymore, it looks like a deep soggy potatoey mess. Probably not skiable now. Sad

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "fixed". If you are implying that this is a photoshopped image, you would be wrong. We took it on Wednesday evening. It is my boyfriend in the picture in our front garden. No one had walked on the snow for 3 days, and over a foot had fallen. It was beautiful.

Thawing a bit here but it'll take quite a while - local farmer brought his JCB up our lane and ploughed up to us. I then spent 2.5 hrs digging out both cars (knee deep) and a turning space, to find only one car would start but got it going with jump leads off the other one. Took both cars out to get them warmed through and alleviate OH's cabin fever! Finally got round to lunch at 3pm and have now decided the sofa in front of the fire is the place to be while the painkillers attempt to deal with my back.

Snowed again overnight in Aberdeenshire, just a light dusting. Sunday night warmed up to about 3C, but quickly dropped back below zero in the early afternoon. Roads have been nice for skating on xc kit, went out for a coupel of trips yesterday - 5.5km in the morning skating on a light dusting of fresh snow on top of hard pack on the back roads and 10km in the afternoon, but some sections of road were a bit icy for easy skating.

Having bust my 28 year old Cross Country boots last week the replacements arrived yesterday (ex MOD courtesy of Anchor supplies £25, thank you kindly!) so after a bit of fiddling to adjust the Rottefellas to cope with the thicker soles it was out from the back door into the Angus fields and hills for a blissfull 2 hours sliding around on the the >knee deap powder by starlight. All that was missing was a display of the Northern lights to make it truly magical. Temperature was -10c!

I must try and get some pictures.

BTW, am I allowed to talk about XC on here? Shocked snowHead
