Today we were in St. Johann in Tirol. Very few skiers on the pistes. Bands of mist hanging around but otherwise pleasant skiing. The new snow from yesterday wasn't much but has helped a little and offers a few unprepared variants.

We skied today in Fieberbrunn and it was fantastic, blue skies and sun after the mists had lifted. Pistes in good condition, off-piste rather lumpy but skiable.
In the evening we drove over to Westendorf and watched the start of the night slalom there, the first time I've watched top-class racers in action. I was impressed to see how they bash through the poles.

No, not fully ok. It hurts sometimes when I twist the leg a bit, like this evening when I kicked a can I had stumbled over. However, the good news is that it doesn't bother me at all when I'm skiing And since I had a friend out from Scotland, I had to ski these three days - no excuses. I'll give the leg a rest now at the weekend to watch the Kitzbühel races on TV and maybe it'll be even better next week. Thanks for the concern!

Had an fine day in the Hohe Salve and Westendorf areas yesterday. Weather was perfect, blue skies and sun. Snow was fine to start with, though pretty firm, and became even harder on the south facing slopes.
I wanted to see whether I could do the whole circuit from the Hohe Salve to the far end of Westendorf, using the new connecting lift from Brixen. Started in Going at 0945. Not too many people around, so there was no noticeable queuing. The photo below shows the view from the Köglbahn chairlift between Ellmau and Scheffau.
And the next one shows the view from the Fleiding in the Westendorf area, looking over the Windauberg chairlift.
Without rushing too much, I reached the bottom station of the Ki-West lift at the far end of the Westendorf area just after noon. With plenty time in hand I took about half an hour off for lunch in the Brechhornhaus before continuing on my way back, using on the way the second new gondola in Westendorf, the Choralmbahn. This time I managed not to fall down the steepest bit of the Kandleralm on the piste from Westendorf back to Brixen; that's probably the trickiest skiing on the route. Although I probably could have skied Söll as well, I went straight back from Hochbrixen to Scheffau and Ellmau, just to see how long the shortest circuit might take. Eventually I arrived back at Going around 1510. Since most lifts were running till 1630 (the Hausbergbahn from Ellmau to Going till 1700), I had plenty of time to spare.
An enjoyable circuit, if you like that sort of thing. If you're trying it, you should probably be turning back from your furthest point by about 1300. Obviously it helps if you know the area and aren't continually stopping to decide which lift to take next (or getting lost ).
This evening it has started snowing lightly here, so I suspect it will be doing so in Mayrhofen also.

Schladming night race tonight, as last year it snow hard. Austria got 1,2 so happy locals, nothing to so with the beer. Must have been 20cm snow in town, so easy 30-40cm higher up. Powder day tomorrow, though I've a flight to catch so an early 2 hours is all I 'll get in.

In Kitzbuhel we've just had a week of warm temperatures, sunny blue skies (and one day of the dreaded foehn wind...) - hard pistes in the morning, chopped up slush in the afternoon. I look at the webcams now and see its snowing!! It was lovely having great visibility & warm weather but I was longing for just a little bit of lovely soft snow....

Skied the Kitzbühel area today, from the Fleckalmbahn by Kirchberg. The pistes were generally in good condition, only tending to be hard where there had been a lot of traffic. Probably the best run was over at the Hochsaukaser (didn't bother taking the 3S over to Jochberg). Weather was pretty good on the whole, with patches of blue sky. The Föhn kept the bad weather away and, although it clouded over at times and got colder in the afternoon, there were only about two minutes of light snow. Failed yet again to ski the Streif without a fall

Has anyone passed through Bad Gastien as a friend is going in 2 weeks and I am going there in 4 weeks and would like to get a heads up on the conditions at this resort.
With a few comments of warm weather and slush in Austria is a bit worrying.

kewhoward, Yes we are staying in Soll arrive 16th for a week, some of our friends are arriving there today so hoping for a sneaky text on conditions any time now!
We have skiied Soll a couple of years ago but only visited for a day as stayed elsewhere. Looking forward to a good week hopefully, conditions look mighty better than when we were last there, although we did get caught in a blizzard where everybody else suddenly disapeared and we were left thinking Bit more experience now, had to laugh about it, thats after we got down!

Wind is the worst - I can cope with just about everything else (avalanches?) but I think more skiing days are ruined by wind than anything else.
Here's hoping.....

Wind, or lack of wind (with mist) - skiing in a whiteout can be pretty miserable too.
