Gosh what a lot of snow!! Starting to get a wee bit worried about the road/traffic situation, but since I'm not driving there's not much I can do about it. At this rate we might even have trouble getting up the A1 to Newcastle airport - forecast to snow quite a bit over the north east in the early hours...
Cheers for the Bruno recommendation btw - may well look him up.
Right, I'm off to pack! 1 sleep to go!

It is going to be awesome tomorrow
Pic shows Montachavin (1250m) at 4pm today.
Yesterday there were large patches of brown here.
Now look at it! And it was snowing then. It's probable snowing still.
But as SMALLZOOKEEPER mentions here, be careful out there this weekend guys. The avalanche risk must now be considerable

Great conditions in La Plagne even some untracked powder still to be found, looking very good for the weekend with snow forecast for saturday night.

Me again. Really tired today. Did the top black of Boiley this morning with a . Her 3rd black and what a 3rd. She did so well we went back up and they had opened Morbleu?. We took her down it. It was an enormous icy mogul field. She got down, when she gets back on line she can tell the story but she did brillant. It was just torture and hot, oh so hot but she will dine long, fine and hard on her achievement
Went back down La Roche for lunch and then gave up to tired. Went up the glacier with the kids and visited the ice grotto for a break. More sno due tonight and the blacks of the glacier beckons. What an epic week |
Well, that would be me I guess... What a fantastic week - conditions were perfect, snow, sunshine, aching limbs and a red, peeling nose tell their own story....
As reported above I met up with thefatcontroller and mrsfatcontroller on the Monday for a lovely, cruisey day around Montchavin and a popper-busting lunch - thank you guys!
And then there was 'Black Thursday'..... The baptism of fire.....
It is definately true that I had done 2 blacks previously... one which was short... and one which probably should have been a red... and then OH... MY..... GOD.....!! (mental note to self: only agree to ski with thefatcontroller for days of 'red practice' or better still 'green practice')
What an experience!! I have never felt such fear, frustration, exhaustion and then ultimately such amazing exhileration and pride as I did on that run.
I would like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to thefatcontroller, mrsfatcontroller and their friend for firstly skiing with me and secondly for their endless encouragement and limitless patience in giving me one of the most memorable experiences of my life! And that's not even including the slug of genepi they donated whilst I was spread-eagled in a panting heap at the bottom..
It was a pleasure to meet and ski with you guys... and any time you feel the need for a laugh and you have half a day spare to complete a single km of black run... just shout!

thefatcontroller, Not sure I like being called a nutter, the north face is one of my favorite trips and they could be my tracks. Now you are going to be out here more and I hear you are getting into off piste, maybe one day they will be your tracks as well Hope to see you next season.
