They should then put in an albona 2 along the route of the original albona 2 (which was a single chair !) upto the little restaurant on the ridge. yey!

Has some merit, but the downside would be even more people skiing Geisleger.

It has been raining hard and cold at Oktoberfest in Munich all day.
Event has been a disaster.
But that means a big puke of schnee at altitude.

@Whitegold, I would not call 1,000,000 visitors over the first weekend a disaster... unless you have an alternative definition for disaster.

@Whitegold, over opening weekend the sun shone, lots of folk drank far too much beer and the tent owners made vast amounts of money. There are always a few wet days, it's no issue.

The complete article clearly shows that this is just a political step.
In Kappl the original plan has not yet been abandoned. Also because a definitive decline in writing never was made. (?)
And Tirol’s environmental solicitor (translation? Umweltanwalt...) earlier already stated that a summit-summit connection would be acceptable.
Conclusion: looks like the connection Rendl-Kappl will come, one way or the other.

Silvrettaseilbahn AG (Ischgl) are involved so as to complete the Kappl - Ischgl Gondola link..
Im against any plan to link Kappl to St Anton but if this new summit to summit variant does not allow folks any easy ski access to Malfontal its new thinking/mindset...
Still i hope its not built and i think they will still have a massive battle with the environmentists.

@Langerzug, @stanton, what a surprise! There is far too much at stake for the various ski resorts (Kappl especially) to let some inconvenient court decision get in the way. Who is going to be the first person to ski from Warth to Ischgl and back in a day . If the Greens end up in the Federal government, which is perfectly possible after the result today, that might have an impact on what happens, though the days of smoking in Austrian bars are almost certainly consigned to the past.

Not necessarily so. Silvrettaseilbahn AG also is holding shares in Galtür since recently, and no connection is planned there. (And not really feasible either probably)
Main focus in Ischgl/Samnaun currently are the rather megalomanic plans on the Samnaun side. But these will take at least 5 years to materialize. Kappl-Rendl will come sooner I’d say.

To get permission lifts are not the issue.
Pistes/routes are.
Hence the new plan for Kappl-Rendl.
St.Anton-Ischgl is internet bla-bla

@Langerzug,
Not true or correct on both.
Lifts will always be an issue

Does any link made here not need a new riffelbahn to take people to the top of hinters rendel and thus by that nature give easy access to malfontal anyway(i.e. no need
for the hike up through hinters rendl). Are there any maps of the proposal anywhere. Did the previous proposal indicate a mittelstation in the malfontal valley?

@mcg, don't think it necessarily means you have to have a mittelstation. You can just take the gondolas straight over to rendl.
Does anyone know what the situation is with connection of See/Ischgl with Serfaus? Is that still on the table?
|
|
|
|
|
|
@mcg, yes, there were two lifts each with basestation in the Malfon planned, and skiroutes , no skipistes.
And a new lift in the Rendl area up to Rossfallscharte

@stanton, complete nonsense. The Verbindungslift between Pass Thurn and Kitzbühel Pengelstein is a huge success, and has practically zero environmental impact on the valley below it, aside from being an amazing engineering feat. Bring it on I say.

I do have some sympathy for the views expressed. Who is going to benefit from a lift link between a failing ski area and a quiet corner of the Arlberg ski area? It is simply too far away to be of any use to anyone staying in Lech (or worse in Warth). Unless there are more pistes, how much interest will it really be to those staying in St Anton? Kappl hardly seems to offer a good variety of straight forward skiing of the type St Anton is rather lacking in and I doubt it offers any particularly notable challenging skiing which St Anton has in abundance anyway. I can see the point of the Flexenbahn, Auenfeldjet or the 3S in Kitzbühel, they open up a lot of skiing possibilities. When the proposal was to extend the skiable area it made sense (though possibly not from an environmental perspective). This proposal simply seems to be a a way to keep alive a plan which only really benefits the land owners in Kappl and would allow the Arlberg tourist offices to keep up their boast of the "biggest ski area in Austria", hardly sensible.

It will deflect some of the St. Anton crowd away from the Lech terrain.

@stanton, ha, the folks of Pettneu...is’nt their megalomanic gondola now in Warth? Is it maybe that Pettneu is not granting Kappl it’s own skiing-area after the Pettneu area definitely collapsed? (Pettneu and Kappl being quite similar in their location to respectively St.Anton and Ischgl)
My point is that if the people of Kappl expect that the connection to Rendl will save their skiresort (which clearly is suffering) and hence their economy (instead of being completely dependable on Ischgl) we should assume they are right in that (I’m ignoring environmental issues now)
No use for us here in the virtual forums to decide on what is worthwhile in these matters. We really need to be aware that tourism is the only possibility nowadays to make a living. All of Tirol is living on tourism, either direct or indirect. And: just 10% of Tirol’s surface is used as skiresorts.
And as is now being discussed in Alpinforum: all recent lift-lift connections are actually quite successful....
And yes, I do like the deflecting of the St.Anton masses away from Lech

Kappl has been growing over the last 15 yrs ..Hotels etc ..it needs the St Anton Link ... St Anton does not.
If there going to build a lift they should do the Lift up on the northside to connect to Ischgl ..
Pettneu Alpenverein were active against Remdl/Kappl years before the village ski lifts were closed down...
Best thing ever happened in Pettneu on Powder days its Private

@stanton, What if a connection Kappl-Ischgl comes at higher economical And environmental cost?
(which it probably does, otherwise they would pursue that)
And why does Kappl still have this antique gondola, whilst Pettneu went bankrupt with their new gondola: lack of guests, lack of money..It is not so difficult to see what’s happening

@stanton, if you look on the weather thread you will see that there have been a number of suggestions (somewhat more scientific than the cows in the Arlberg) that the upcoming winter might be of the milder variety. Kaiserwetter due back again next weekend.
