@snowcrazy, Yes, saw more accidents yesterday than I normally see in 2 weeks. The runs off RDM are still OK, with a bit of give in them.

@boredsurfin thanks for the info
Seems like the forecasts are flip flopping as to whether/to what extent it will snow from Tuesday or Wednesday next week, fingers crossed that a little top up comes at least!

Snow-Forecast is showing a good snowfall next Wednesday. Way to far out to say for certain but seeing it forecast is a sign in the right direction! Keep snowdancing!

boredsurfin, meteofrance for La Plagne looking even more hopefull this morning.
But as you say, lots of forecasts suggest Austria is grabbing all the snow and refusing to share.

B..... Cold out there today pistes seemed better than yesterday with less Icy Patches, was back to a normal changeover day so nice and quiet everywhere, had several pistes to ourselves. Clouds building all around us, Courchevel and La Tania were in shadow from the clouds whilst we sat in brilliant sunshine on Le Borselier Terrace. Came home early at 3.30 as it was getting quite a lot colder.
We shall wait and see if the clouds come to anything. Friends in Austria have gone back to Munich a day early because of the heavy snow falling in the Mountains....

Went over to Arcs, no queues anywhere, snow seem pretty good as soon as you got above 1800m. The run down to vanoise in the morning from Arpette was OK as well

Still saying snow is forecast midweek. Not huge amounts but certainly enough to freshen up pistes.

I’ll take that as a piste skier! Out of interest, how much do you think is needed to make a noticeable difference on a piste that already has a base? 2cm....5cm......10cm?

@Gassy222, How much depends on the wind! No wind and 5cm makes a huge difference, high winds and theres little evidence it fell except for patches of fresh snow now and again ... Thursdays snowfall is accompanied by winds gusting up to 60kph...
Excellent day out there today, skied with some friends who have just arrived and they commented how good the pistes are particularly considering its nor really snowed for a couple of weeks.
It was lovely and quiet had several pistes to ourselves, with a very noticeable lack of ski schools!
Stopped at the Stadium in Plagne Centre to watch the kids from https://apex2100.org racing in the slalom, theres a few Dave Ridings of the future amongst them....

@boredsurfin, I was over your side today and had a splendid time. Pistes on both sides in reasonable condition with usually just the odd patch of iciness to keep you paying attention. Nice to have the place much quieter!

Parts of that sound good, especially the Arsenal bit assuming you meant the premiership (I am a fan unfortunately). The snow is due next weekend so possibly a little less fanciful than all of those but it is on the GFS runs which can be... optimistic.

Tomorrow and Wednesday are looking hopeful and the snowmakers have stopped - first time for 4 days. Of course, they may have run out of water!
By co-incidence Just got this from SAP (the lift co) for all of La Plagne
Quote: |
The water reserves decrease.
The lake at Coches is almost empty, 20 000 m3 to Pierre Blanche, 15 000 m3 to Pra Jourdan, 5000 m3 to Lovatière, 40 000 m3 to Forcle.
We have consumed to date more than 430,000 m3 of water and therefore produced in the order of 860,000 m3 of snow. |

Well after all the doom and gloom we just had a great day skiing, we covered both a bit of la plagne and les arc essentially following the sun. The pistes are good, lower runs that are in the shade a lot are a little icy but there’s loads of good skiing to be had.

@boredsurfin, I was thinking today how artificial snow was being used very effectively across Paradiski. It will be a real shame if they run out of water.

As promised snow is falling this morning- if it was rain it would be called persistent drizzle - as itsvsnow its the powdery dry stuff that gets in everwhere - just what’s needed

Brilliant news!!! Keep us updated over the next 48 hours. Hopefully this 15cm falls as predicted!
|
|
|

You know it makes sense.
|
@Gassy222, May take a while to accumulate 15cm at this rate - this is what has fallen on the balcony rail at 1400m since 8am this morning...
BUT even without any snowfall the pistes are in great shape. More snow will simply allow the pistes that took a scraping over New Year to re-open.

@Alastair, Yes. The blues are a bit icy, but the red with the cannons ( Fornelet ? ) was fine. And yes Cornedigouaille was a pig. If only there was lift at the bottom of Adrets to take you straight back to Plagne Centre.

Great news that the pistes are improving. Resort certainly looks to be extremely quiet at the moment. Friend and I are out on the 20th Jan 2019 for a week staying at Club Med Plagne 2100. Been a while since I last stayed in La Plagne - have enjoyed it both previous times I have visited. Keep the snow falling !!

The little bit of snow today has definitely improved things further still, more grip. Visibility was more of an issue today, staying out of the cloud was the challenge which we mostly managed todo.
