Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Er, Erm, you clearly have the internet, have you not seen the weather forecast?

And did you not see the big flakes when you left France?

Erm, yes and it forecast 10-15cm in Courmayeur - not really worth me taking fat skis out for that....and there were no fat flakes when I left France at 7:45am...but as I am sure you know, the weather in Chamonix isn't necessarily mirrored in Courmayeur.

Glad you enjoyed lapping Prarion though.

Idris, I had a good day despite having a beginner in toe. The photo was very funny, the instructor took his class of 5-7 year olds down a bit of side piste, half of them fell over and couldn't get up and he had to climb back up to rescue them.
One thing worthy of note is the pressure on the parking at LH, at 9.45 the small Belle Vue parking was full and the Parion was almost full. After this week it will be chaos.
PS it's snowing again Very Happy

My friends have just left for the UK, therefore no ski partners for tomorrow. Anybody fancy linking up? Hoping to go to GM early doors but flexible if people have a better plan. I'm driving, lots of space in the car and in the roof box.

I'm a fairly decent off piste skier, equipped and have recently attended both avy and crevasse rescue courses this season (Avy Academy) as a refresher. In Chamonix for the season.

Cheers

I'm enjoying all this snowfall from afar. It means those nasty rocks should be covered by the time I get back to Cham.

Just a thought, there is a LOT of snow on the move on the wind, and upto 30 cms due tonight. A sunny day forecast tomorrow. That's a very dangerous combination, take it easy.

After two fantastic days, today is overcast, sleety and warm, basically pants, take it easy out there.

I've just been told by my bank that the last two times I bought fuel at carrefore in Chamonix I was charged 100euro. It's been set up as a dispute but you might want to be careful. I'll report back.

Great day in Courmayeur, just kept on giving!!! Snow all day so hit the trees. All our tracks were filled in by the time we hit the same lines a hour or two later. Almost half a metre in the car park.

Cheers to Robbie and Derek.

I can confirm that Courmayeur was ridiculous today! Not often I feel under-gunned on my Gotamas...

One note of caution though - loads of slab building near the ridge-crests with the South wind, and by late afternoon even lower in the trees steep slopes were dropping off if you so much as looked at them...

Still pumping down snow across the mountain and at town level. Just back from Flegere, got 4 solo laps of fresh knee-deep on Lachenal . Tomorrow should be a good'un snowHead snowHead

Tomorrow should be lovely. We tried to go to Les Houches (as I hate poor vis) but after finally rousing the Mrs from her bed, by the time we got there we couldn't get parked. So home and up Brevent but vis as expected and we were not motivated to hang around. We probably should have made the effort to get over to Flegere as there were not many people about.

In this weather I always go backside of Le tour.
Avoided the bowls on far ( skiers ) right but great tracks through trees.
Skied home run under gasex above vallorcine bubble at 16:15, virtually untracked and deep enough for some face shots of surpringly light powder given the wet valley.
Very Happy

Les Houches was very damp, the snowpack is waterlogged and a little sandy (contains sand from north Africa) - runs all open and in surprisingly good condition - only a very few patches of brown - all easily avoided.

The €100 thing. Are they sure it's not an "Authorise" to be followed up by a "final" amount. My CC shows where it is an authorise request to ring fence funds which then get finalised after. FairFX if that helps

End of the day , sneaked out for one run

Was a bit busy - last nights frost turned lots of the white stuff into concrete - the dust on top felt like artificial snow - at least it should be durable.

Nice views form the top though

Great tour on the Argentiere Glacier yesterday, perfect weather. Skinned up home run for some phys in the morning to get the first bin to the top of GM & Tour de Noir with Giles and Bob. Nice snow, softened by the sun. Good day cheers guys.

For info:

I was told yesterday by a pisteur coming down checking the run first thing, that it will be forbidden to skin up on the side of the Pierre a Ric, even out of hours (don't really know how they'll enforce that one). They've set up a track to the west that turns off just before the piste bridge. Makes sense. I've never done it whilst the lifts were operating and I would think its pretty foolhardy by the looks of some of the skiers descending during the day!

That's great news. Skinning on piste is forbidden and potentially dangerous, but lots do it. Putting in a track is a good idea, the one at Les Houches gets a lot of traffic.

jbob, I agree but sometimes it's nice to skin up for an hour before opening time rather than spend the same time in the line for Lognan at the bottom. The up track at Les Houches is very nice through the trees.

Buddy1664, I can't see them trying to stop anyone before the lifts are open unless the bashers have asked them because they have cables out or avi control going on. There's a regular dawn patrol at Les Houches, I've never made it!
