Just got back from a walk to pleney where it was all hands on installing the ticket barriers. The ticket office looked serviceable enough and so did the lift though still a lot of finishing work to do on the facade.
So if pleney opens the new lift should be ok? But I am probably going to drive up to nyon or Les gets to be sure!

Chatel Snow, Loving the updates - we're heading out to Chatel on the 3rd for a few weeks and looking foward to some hiking around. Was very jealous of you skinning up to Super Chatel the other day just what we'd be doing if we were there. Did you hike up today?

Pamski, that's good - they seem to have got a lot open, given how it looked a few days ago. Should be a terrific day today - we have a lot open today, clear blue sky and probably very few people around. Last quiet day for a couple of weeks.

dennisp, I think you mean from the top of the Chaux Fleurie lift out of Lindarets? There is newish blue run which I often take if the red looks full of people all over the place, just winds down, onto another red just for a short time, and then another tracky bit and you are virtually at the bottom. Been fine so far this year, as has the red (when not full of people!). But I am skiing and I think you board so may be dfferent.
Lovely sunny day today - our lot went over to Ardent first thing - we have been on grandparenting duty so bus down to the village, walk around, huge jambon galette for baby M, expensive purchase of sunglasses for her as she has grown out of the last pair and bus home. OH now out for a quick ski in LG. Village looks pretty busy now, long queues at the ticket office.
Big clearance of trees has taken place below the school up here, which I think is designed the widen the piste that we use to ski down to the Chavannes Express.

dennisp, the blue is OK though the very top bit can be a bit frantic and it is a road which not everyone likes. The red it leads on to can be tricky so you need to keep following the blue road as it winds down the hill side. Once at Plaine Dranse if you take the Chaux des Rosees lift it leads to a nice wide blue.
First day of the season and I think I remebered how to do it still. Snow not bad up high but the home run to PLJ is mostly artificial and not very nice. Not been to Linga yet. Super Chatel open but the Petit Chatel chair is pedestrian only

Not much open in the Super-Chatel area today, just the telecabine and 3 small drags and run to bottom is closed. No chairs open in that sector. More expected to open from tomorrow.
Run from Linga down to bottom is now open, but already icy in places.
Yesterday's snow has been a great help, but without the cold temperatures allowing the snow machines to function, then everything is going to wear very quickly over the next few days as it has gone very mild again on the sunny slopes and the mild weather is set to continue before a potential winter storm arrives on Christmas Day.
ie more snow needed!

The report yesterday of 60cm of powder at Avoriaz, which seemed very very optimistic - looks like they meant total depth at the top was 60cm!!!! http://www.avoriaz.com/en

Had our first day skiing yesterday and despite promises of the new Pleney lift being open, it wasn't. Unsure what the problem was because it appeared to be running but wasn't taking passengers. Snow cover not great on the lower slopes but will be exploring the higher pistes today.

The new lift was running today - we were just out for a few hours this morning and there is a lot of not-joined-upness going on. Skied into the Rosta bowl, Violettes over there was not very nice but got us there, Rosta lift actually ran without breaking down, the usual grumpy liftie with the moustache was standing around watching people fall off at the bottom! Took the Ranfolly lift up and came down the Tulip once and then the three man, up again and down the Gentianes. The Nauchet lift out of the bowl is not running today. All the way down the long run into the Charniaz bowl and up the Tetes and went in the Nyon direction. Thought we would take the Reverettes lift up and then stop at the Cornette for coffee - small queue there as it had stopped, and then told that it would be out of action for 2 hours, so down the Chamois and over the bridge.... and then rather muddy track along to finally join the Stade and down to Morzine. Up the chair, hoping that the Mouille lift would run as we could see the Belvedere running, but no - so down B and up the new Pleney lift which is very user friendly - and lifties being quite helpful at the moment. . Back to Les Gets and up the Chavannes Express to pick up our car parked at the Chavannes
Definitely more snow needed.

Yes indeed Pam.
I went up to Super Chatel again this morning to see how the park was coming on and to see what else was opening. They had opened a couple more drags (one of which you had to dodge the soil and the odd rock on the way up) - but snow was very sticky as there was a brisk and warm wind blowing up there. The only plus side was that it was quiet in that sector, as looking across to Linga from our apartment - it looks very busy.
"Disappointing" sums up this morning's mission, as the good work of the last snowfall is rapidly being undone by the warm wind and very mild temperatures. Looks even windier tomorrow and Tuesday and again very mild. Significant snowfall by the end of the week and I wouldn't be surprised to see 50cm of new snow by this time next week.
Will be doing a round up of the various forecasts for the next snowfall on the ChatelWeb.com site from tomorrow. GFS and snow-forecast.com performed particularly badly for the last one, so it'll be interesting to see what happens this time round.

FlyingStantoni, yes a good call! We had a babysitter booked for the granddaughter from 9 so we all felt we had to make the most of it. I am now quite happy to spend the rest of the week not skiing, apart from Boxing Day - babysitter booked again - but just hope everyone else enjoys their festive breaks.

Snow in Avoriaz was fine today. A bit patchy in places, but I think reading Pams experience a worthwhile trip.
Busy everywhere though.
May chance Les Gets tomorrow, is it worth it though Pam?

Chattonmill, well if they sort out having a few more lifts running... our daughter and SIL were in Avoriaz today and said that was fine. Les Gets was ok for me as I just bumble around on piste from one cup of coffee to the next - only trouble was that today I didn't get that till 12.30. My OH said that the Violette had been bashed by skiddoos rather than a piste basher. All ok for us as we can work around things and turn very quickly if necessary, I do feel sorry for people learning. But the Chavannes slopes themselves were lovely.

Skied from Pre La Joux this morning. Noticeably busier than Saturday but no real queues. Snow is suffering but it still Ok.
Beginners could have problems as neither of the drags near the Perdrix Blanche is running. Section between bottom of Pierre Longue and Bottom of Pre La Joux chairs was a joke at 12.00. As the gulley/stream hasn't filled with snow the ski school meeting points filled the whole area. I nearly took my skis off and walked! The telecorde is running but that's all for the beginners.
I'm back to work Mon/Tue but back out around 23.00 Christmas Eve flights permitting. Liking the sound of snow on Wed/Thu. We need it.
good to catch up with snoozeboy for mini pub crawl on Saturday night.

Its looking very promising from midweek onwards - just looking at the latest charts. Potential dumpage!

Skied over in Champery - les crosets today, there is an absolutely manky bit of piste at the end of the blue that runs down to tsd planchaux. It was like the world's biggest yard sale, as loads of unsuspecting parents skiing with little mites found themselves confronted with an ice-mogul-mud-grass combo. Nasty.

Yes Planachaux is best avoided in Champéry - Les Crosets. In fact it may well not even be open today with the mud fest yesterday. They were jet washing the seats as they were so muddy from crashes!!
