Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

carroz, ianbradders,

Gosh, is it really that bad after all the snow we have had? We are out for the first three days of feb, and I am wondering about getting cancelling my accommodation and going to another station if it is. Sad

Much of the icy rubble/golf balls is being put down to artificial snow. Nobody seems to understand why it has been thought necessary! I've only seen it at the bottom of Marmotte and Morillon.

ringingmaster, It was bad for me last week before the fresh but only on the last 100metres into morillon and a little bit on the bottom of molliets. Everywhere else on the whole GM were excellent conditions, probably the best i have experienced in five trips to the GM over the years.

Back out Wed late morning. I can't believe the conditions are anything other than superb except below 1100m when, let's face it, you can expect a degree of dodginess. Forecast a bit vague for this week... looks like a little bit of snow but not much (except a slightly odd powdercast from the Flaine lift empire). Looking forward to doing Lindars Nord which I haven't touched yet this year. Have they fixed the Combe de Veret drag yet? If not it may be walkies time. A group of four of us are definitely heading up to the Bostan refuge Thurs eve if anyone cares to join in..............

Tuesday 24th January

Just to clarify, the reason for the icy rubble low down is due to the rather warm sunday. verlarge and grand cret are often not open, so it was good to do one of them, even if it was a bit lumpy marbles and thin in places.

Snowing loads as I type. Excellent snow today, could not really be much better, just low down or south facing off piste is crud. Did agile noire off tete des saix a few times and it was lovely and powdery, snowed a little bit off and on all day, lots of thick fog at times.

have not got to flaine yet!!, top of tete des saix down to samoens is def best snow

Lunchtime the place was totally empty!! it was a bit weird.

then late afternoon it got busy, very odd!

Anyway with the amount of snow falling now, should be good tomorrow. Very Happy

Verlcand bar not open this season. We use Ray, who used to own it until recently, for very good airport runs and he says new owners not planning to reopen until next season.

Enjoy the Bostan trip.

No got much time, busy servicing skis....................

Excellent day, reasonable amount of new snow, refreshed north facing off piste, south is a bit cruddy still, on piste is fine.

Bit soft low down later in day, got rather warm, if foggy again.

1st day back. Warm air so the snow is quite heavy. Top black at samoens still good though. Just about freezing in the valley now (2210) and sun forecast tomorrow so am expecting the high skiing to be best. Therafter low temperatures and light snow forecast so the next few days are not clear. Runs very quiet where I was today.

We are out in Samoen on Tuesday evening for 3 days on the snow. I will do reports if I can get Wi-Fi.

Still undecided on Skipass Grand Massif, or just the Skipass Massif. Comments at this stage anyone.

Flying out tomorrow Very Happy But not until late, so not on the snow until Sunday. I'll try my best to update, but my version is kind of: "Yay there was snow! I didn't die!" and "Boo, the rocks at Tete trashed my new skis because I don't have the m4d skillz to avoid them..."

But I'll try! (Also, this year, I will actually make it to Flaine! Rather than spending a day seeing how fast I can get down the Dahu...)

Ringingmaster we have bought both in past. Depending on weather and queues can take awhile to get across to Flaine and it's really expensive to eat there. IMHO there is plenty of excellent skiing in massif area without going to Flaine esp if only got three days. As was said check the price difference. Or you could always upgrade one day if you wanted to try Flaine.

Thanks ianbradders, snowmam,

The diffence is about 40 € for the two of us, but we are doing an extra 3 days on an ultra tiny budget (£90 flights, £60 car, locally borrowed skis, 100€ hotel, packed lunches etc etc) if the snow is poor, then we will include the Flaine pass, but hope not to.

Well if you are on such a tight budgetringingmaster, i would not stretch to it. You certainly will not be short of runs to do.
Last week we only got a Flaine pass one day, admittedly we were only out half days so we could get back to ski with wives and kids in Les Carroz but that will work out a similar amount of snow hours as you will be having.
Ultimately it depends whether you are the kind of people who "NEED" to tick off every piste on the map, if not, enjoy the rest of this stunning area as though Flaine isn't even there (apart from dropping in and back out on Grand Vans.

ringingmaster, Last week i didn't go to flaine once, I have a season pass so could have , but there is actually so much in the rest of the area just didn't get there!

Talking about snow............as i left this morning at 9.30am lots of fresh had fallen in village, estimate about 20cm ish, so should be more higher as early in the evening it rained in les carroz..

.................problem with today was i was on a plane Sad
