Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hey guys,

Am heading off to tignes for the first time on Saturday with a couple of friends who have not skiied for a while. They were all pretty advanced last time out, but was wondering if anyone could suggest a bit of an itinery for the first day that will challenge but also not too much whilst we all get back in the groove.

Cheers

Hi davico and welcome to snowHead

Depending on where you are staying i would recommend 'The Tour du Lac'. Take chair lifts Paquis, Tichot, Grattalu & Grand Huit. You can start from Val Claret, Le Lac or Le Lavachet. Lots of places to stop for a coffee on the way round and decide where you are going next.

Grand Motte may not offer a good option Saturday as if we get the snow forecast most of it will be closed.

Have a good trip Very Happy

Its snowing again Very Happy

Snowed most of the day yesterday with just a brief sunny spell at lunch time Blush

My morning lesson cancelled yesterday morning as they thought there was too much snow Puzzled Not sure what will happen today as it is snowing heavier. Hopefully another free morning so i can go skiing the powder.

Just called back home for lunch and to report on a fantastic morning Little Angel

Firstly my group cancelled again due to it snowing Puzzled So i tagged on to an off piste group and skied the following;

Took the aeroski to Toviere then skied the offpiste to the left of Tommeusses chair & Piste Perdue all the way into La Daille. The visibilty wasn't too great at the top but improved lower down and we completed the run dodging the trees on the lower slope Little Angel

Back to the top of Toviere via the Funival and Tommusses chair. Skied the Arriere Campanules into Val Claret.

Then the highlight of the morning took the Tichot & Grattalu lifts and walked up the ridge to access Chardonnet bowl. Fresh tracks walking up the ridge never mind skiing down Very Happy . The descent was outstanding, waist deep powder Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

The avalanche risk is currently 4/5 but we never skied anything remotely dangerous & all the group were fully equipped with trancievers etc.

Health & safety gone mad !! No skiing again for them this afternoon its still snowing Very Happy

My group are teenage school kids who can ski well. Not sure what the teachers expect in a ski resort, snow is normal in Tignes Blush Will advise them to go somewhere lower next year where there is no snow Toofy Grin

Not sure where Kenzie goes Puzzled but he always seems to find the difficult areas!

More snow overnight and its still snowing lightly. Its been snowing since last Saturday with only Tuesday offering a break. Blush

As reported on www.horspiste.com a high avalanche risk has been issued for today 5/5 so i do not expect the lifts to open on time.

Not sure if my kids will be allowed out today but if they do arrive i think we will do an introduction to the use of trancievers & dig a few snow holes untill the lifts open.

No dug the car out as we were going to a birthday party in Val Claret.
For anybody who knows the road between Le Lac & Val Claret, round by the lake, it has been closed to pedestrians due to the avalanche risk.

The kids turned up yesterday and we spent the first hour explaining about avalanches and finding trancievers. The lifts opened about 10.00ish but very limited to start with due to all the snow Very Happy But we did manage to have a good time. Off piste who needs it? There was so much new snow the pistes were knee deep Very Happy

Its still snowing this morning & we seem to have had about another 30cm overnight Blush
Last day for the kids (Actually they are between 14 & 18 ) so hopefully everything will open on time and we can have a brill day.

Raining on and off in La Daille this morning, most lifts closed. I'm guessing this is because of a high avalanche risk - can't see how high winds could trouble the Funival!

Looks like that would've been some hard work! Twisted Evil

Hope the 'kids' turned up for their last day skiing - at least they've had some instruction in avalanche awareness & off-piste techniques Very Happy But what happened to your Saturday morning on the sofa watching the sport? Shocked Toofy Grin

The high winds don't affect the Funival but its 100 kmph winds at the top & the avalanche risk is 5. The highest risk possible. The nursery slope lifts in Tignes have been closed all day due to the possibility of avalanche from the slopes above.

When duty calls you have to miss saturday morning sofa Puzzled
Managed to make the lessons interesting and finished off with a couple of runs down the Primeveres 'Black', accessed from the Les Almes poma.

The weather has been pretty rough most of today, strong winds, even more snow and variable temperatures.

Sun forecsat for tomorrow, will have to remember how to ski when you can see Toofy Grin

Back to bright sunshine & blue skys Blush Although it is just beginning to cloud over as another new front comes in wink

The pisters were out early this morning blasting away and the majority of the resort opened on time. The top of Grande Motte was thankfully closed as there has been a MASSIVE avalanche from the top which has slid all the way down to 3500.

A few pics to show the sun does shine Toofy Grin

Spent the last few days skiing around a lot of the Espace Killy and rediscovering the resort as it has changed so much since last weeks heavy snowfalls Blush
Everywhere has excellent snow and for the past few days the scenery has been stunning. The temperatures have been quite mild but with the amount of snow we have a little melting is not noticable. It was supposed to snow today according to Snowforecast.(lie).com but no sign. A little sunshine is welcome Very Happy
We now have more snow than Big White in BC and a lot of those other American resorts which everyone keeps raving about NehNeh NehNeh

The avalanche on the Grande Motte was set off by the pisters and was not natural. I understand they were suprised at its size. Sorry no photo's as it has all been bashed down Sad

Will try and get some pics to post but forgot camera today (idiot)

benpudney, I don't think Stewart's ever recommended himself as an instructor, or ESF as a ski school. I would highly recommend him as an instructor as he was one of my instructors on a recent Snoworks course.
