jayne durham, the little silver bag isolates your badge from the reader. If you have to go through a manual lane, for example if you have a rack on top and too high for any T lane, you don't want to end up paying twice. It's useful to have. you don't need to activate it, and I don't think you can replace a battery. It should last a long time, I think they will give you a new one if it gets worn out. Someone who knows might be along soon. They will register the tolls to the card you bought it on unless you register another. I registered to only have online billing, as it was cheaper, but haven't ever looked at mine, and forget how to! must try when bored, one of these days.

jayne durham,
No need to register, automatically deducts form the credit card you registered against the purchase.

Good grief - there'll be huge queues of snowheads stacked up at the telepeage now! It'll probably be quicker paying cash!
|
Yep, much easier to pay cash and of course there are far more cash lanes, there only ever seems to be one or sometimes two lanes for Telepeage

Quick update. I emailed them yesterday using the form on the website, and I have received a reply this morning to say that my details had been updated, and wishing me a pleasant trip.

I'm just about to get a unit this week, if any snowhead has such an offer, please let me know and hopefully you'll get something out of it!
If not, which is the cheapest way to do this at the moment???

kitenski, sanef 10 euros per annum, 30 euros returnable deposit on the badge. Monthly option of 2 euros per month, payable only in the months you use the badge.

This is for paper-free billing. edit-just checked again, and I think you need a French bank account for this option, as payment is by direct debit rather than credit card.

My friends got a telepeage kit for this season and it worked really well, we avoided lots of queues. First peage we went through the telepeage lane was closed so we had to go through one of the manual lanes wher you'd normally pick up a ticket, we wondered what would happen, but it worked fine.As we aproached the machine it took the ticket back in and the telepeage machine beeped as per normal. Haven't had the situation where the telepeage lanes were closed at the payment end though.

Dave Horsley, No problems if the telepeage lanes are shut at either end you simply hand your telepeage to the bod in the box who will do the necessary, even if you've had to take a ticket. Then again, we've never known a problem as yet.
kitenski, my school girl french says you're right....there'll be a deposit and postage fee on top though I'd guess.

homphomp, we didn'y pay anything other than the initial 10 euros, and the cost of the postage to them was 9.40 of that!
kitenski, you have to sign for it when it arrives - we were a bit foxed as to what we needed to go to the sorting office to sign for when ours arrived.

BernardC, Not sure how long they are supposed to last ... changed one after 5 years iirc ( how else do you find out apart from when you're going through (which happened in rush hour!) ??), that one was in daily use The other two are still working fine after 6 years.
boredsurfin, The spot 'behind ' the rear view mirror works on all cars in our experience .. all holders are permanently attached. There is an area there which allows radio signals ( or whatever they are ) to work whilst they dont work elsewhere ( and if flashed around for example) on some cars. Be starnge if Peugeot designed hire car windscreens differently ??

Agenterre, Yep, I thought it odd especially as a French car, but I guess being attached in the right spot is no substitute for being held in the general area

My telepeage is debited from my French bank account - which I was stupid enough to run right down a couple of months ago and one payment was bounced. I'm lucky I'm not already banned from French banking I suppose. They sent me a firm but polite letter.... I am wondering whether they have now recovered the outstanding payment, or whether some great klaxon will sound next time I go through a barrier, with a posse of guys with guns waiting.
I had not kept track of how fast the phone, water and electricity direct debits were running out of the account during the winter. The silly charges for transfers dissuade me from topping up little and often - but the fact that my UK bank account is offset against the mortgage dissuades me from transferring more than I need.

right my telepeage arrived, am I correct in thinking this letter says I need to fill in my bank account details before it will work?
Will UK banks accept a French form?
Is there anyway a credit card can be used?
On the direct debit form I have to fill in these sections, is my translation correct??
Code etablissement : not sure?
Guichet: not sure - sort code???
No. de compte : account number
Cle RIB: not sure!!
The form also says:
document indispensable. Priere de nous renvoyer cet imprime, en y joignant obligatoirement un releve d'identitie bancaire (RIB) ou postal
which Babelfish doesn;t really translate all that well..."essential document. Please return us this prints, by uniting a statement d' obligatorily there; identitie banking (bank account number) or postal@

kitenski, You will need to have a French bank account to operate their 'Prelevement Automatique' (Direct debit) ...
.... otherwise you can use your UK credit card (VISA or Mastercard) - I do, but remember, you must notify APRR if you change your card, it expires, or if it is replaced with a new number for any reason.

thanks Bernard,
How do i tell them to use my credit card? If I read the letter right it's telling me my unit is "inoperant" until I send this letter back, which looks like a bank direct debit letter??

Greg

The letter says that payment will be taken from your credit card. However you will need to inform them at least two months in advance when the card expires or the box will deactivate. You will have given the card details when you purchased the box. You can chose to pay by direct debit but you will need a french bank account..
However, the first time you use it can be a heart stopping moment if the barrier doesnt go up. Make sure you drive fuilly into the gate, you should be able to see the square arial above the barriers. If it doesnt go up, wave the box around the windscreen or outside the car till it does. If it still doesnt go up you can take a ticket. You will need to go a manned barrier on exit but you can pass the telepeage to the attendant to pay rather than using cash or card..

I am having a right old problem trying to update my account with my new card details with APRR. My last card may have been compromised so I had it cancelled.
My first e-mail (liber-t@aprr.fr) went unanswered, so I phoned them up and a lady said that she would e-mail me an authorisation form to fill in and send back. Waited patiently for a few days, and no mail appeared. I tried a different e-mail address (ecsaintapollinaire@aprr.fr) and got a reply back the next day saying that they do not actually have an authorisation form for updating credit card details, but I just had to send my card numbers to this address - abonnes-champagne-lorraine@aprr.fr - I assume someone there will know what to do with the details on receipt. Is it just me, or does that seem a very unsecure way of throwing my details around and leaving myself open to card fraud..!? I would much prefer an online system via a website.
Has anyone else had these problems with APRR..? From what I can gather from earlier responses, others have found it more straightforward?
It doesn't fill me with confidence that the barrier will actually go up at the first booth if this ever gets sorted..!

Just to reply to my own question - I finally got an e-mail reply to call a certain number, and they would take the details over the phone - we both spoke in 'franglais' to each other so there was bound to be some mistakes. I ended up e-mailing her directly with the details and hopefully that has done the trick. One would have thought that this has never been done before. I think that it's a lot less hassle just applying for a new one online and chucking the old one in the bin!
I will make sure that there are no cars behind me before pulling into that first toll..!
