@sugarmoma666, You will find porridge in the Sherpa and Carrefour supermarkets. Can't remember if I found Scott's porridge oats but I'm fairly sure that they had ground oats (Readybrek) type stuff.
@Bella2015, Same goes for Fish Fingers and oven chips. IIRC there was a greater choice of frozen food in Carrefour (rue de la poste) and they definitely have the best choice of fresh fruit and vegetables. Frozen pizzas are considerably cheaper than take-out if that's an option.
Pizza Mick next to Sherpa was good last season but the waiting time at busy periods was sometimes unacceptable. Top tip. The Brassero a few doors along will cook you pizzas to take home. Have a beer whilst your order is prepared. Not a huge pizza menu to choose from but they're pretty big and well made.

@GeorgeVII, Ah yes, the Brasero - a favourite apres haunt for us too.
Sunny days, beers, bar snacks, bands.........."just one more beer before going back for dinner?"
Lovely....cant wait

Also any recommendations for companies that do dog sledding in Tignes? Would like to take the kids aged 6-9? Have tried to contact Evolution 2 as they seem to offer this but am yet to hear back from them

@Bella2015, Evo 2 run the sledding in Tignes. I'd wait for the season to start before worrying about answers, the staff won't be there yet.

@Bella2015, Sorry, I jumped in with an assumption that you were asking about Sherpa in Lavachet.
Brassero is also in Lavachet. The Carrefour and Casino/Spar (whichever it is these days) are both in Le Lac.
Carrefour is on Rue de la Poste and the other is just off the snowfront in the Palafour building. Easily walkable from the bus stops. If your self driving you can park near both of them.
From memory there's a Sherpa on the lower road level (bus route) in Val Claret. I haven't used it but I would imagine that it's fairly well stocked given the number of apartments in VC.

@GeorgeVII, The lower Sherpa in Val Claret is much smaller than the one on the higher loop of road.

@Bella2015, Just a couple of add-ons for you. I haven't spent much time in Val Claret but can offer a couple of recommendations based on last season.
Cocorico. Right on the the snow front between the Grand Motte funicular and the Launches chairlift. Loud apres skiing if that's your thing. But, inside during the day they offer cooked to order pizza by the slice. Coffee, hot chocolate etc at reasonable money considering the location.
Right in the heart of VC near the ski school meeting points Pignatta (sp?) has always been good for pizzas. And a little gem tucked away in a shady corner is the Corner Cafe. Hot drinks, bacon sandwiches, all manor of pies baked on the premises. Might not appeal to everyone but if you're out there for a while it makes a change from the usual offerings.

Might get a top up early weekend. But freezing level will be higher than recently. Looks a lot warmer next week - pity. Hope it is a brief interlude. Not arriving until the 1st

Good to know. They were quite quick getting back to us when we booked kids ski lessons about a month ago... maybe different teams handle it

@Kenzie, Yip that's true, I was referring to opening them earlier than planned/published which I don't think has happened in my time. Clearly just enough staff around to try and attract a good weekend crowd.

@chocksaway,
I was wondering about having the lift staff around this season - I wonder how many are on 'old' contracts that employed them as per the old opening of the links. Could well be that STGM have lifties being paid from Saturday but without lifts to run.

@Kenzie, Not sure about old and new contracts but I guess the technicians are on Indeterminate Contracts (CDI) and work through the year. I imagine the ticket checkers and most of the conducteurs are on fixed term CDDs. I imagine its similar for a lot of the pisteurs and the piste basher drivers etc which are also essential to open the second sector.
Meanwhile it looks like an unsettled period ahead, light snow but with strong winds for the next couple of days, during the day the snowline will be down to 1900 m or so, so might get a bit slushy in Val and Boisses/Brev. Sunday is similar but with less wind. Monday will be showery, it may be rain showers up to 2000m. Tuesday looks OK before another long period of showery weather, it would be nice if the temp dropped a bit though as a 2000m snowline is no great for the whole resort.

We've just booked ourselves in to the Melezes in January and are now working out exactly how we'll get there and when we'll ski. They do a transfer from Geneva for flights arriving by 10:30. If we got that I guess we'd get into resort about 2, so by the time we've hired skis there would be an hour or so until the lifts close. Does a week pass work the day before at all, or would we need to buy a half day pass if we wanted to get any skiing in? At the other end their late transfer leaves 16:00, which allows a good morning of skiing.

You would need a half day pass for that hour. The free bit for the last hour or so of the day before a 6 day pass disappeared a while ago. You could use the Boisses Magic Carpets for nothing but the slope is very noddy. There are a couple of lifts in Lac which are free and offer a reasonable ski to get the legs in (compared with a snow dome!). Half day pass for you last day would work, just check the price of 6 days plus one half vs a 7 day pass.

Thanks. I can save €4.50 by getting the morning pass, but only if I get it back to a lift pass office before 1:15. I think I'd rather spend that time enjoying one last beer.
