@Scarpa, I agree, it hasn't really felt all that cold. Mind you my thermostat is defective and I get all hot and bothered with any physical exertion no matter what the temperature.

Not sure whether to post this here or start a new thread, but I know there are quite a few snowheads based around the Radstadt area and I was wondering if I could pick you brains a bit please?
I've recently been finding my mind drifting towards my plans for next season (I know this one is no where near over yet!). I'm currently working for a ski school in Obertauern, and whilst I'm enjoying my job and the ski area, I'm finding my accom a bit too quiet and remote as I'm down the valley towards Mauterndorf, and I'm not sure being in Obertauern itself would solve that either, especially as I like to get out a bit and explore on my day off. I'm considering looking for a room/apartment to rent for next season and was thinking of Radstadt as Obertauern is easily accessible by bus, and there are rail/bus connections to other resorts so I can explore more (I'd buy a SSS pass). Just wondering what Radstadt is like to live/socilalise in an evening, how readily available seasonal accommodation is and what the chances are of being able to pick up odd bits of work here and there to supplement income? Thanks.

@Sitter, Flangesax is the resident Radstadt expert but I have been based there for the past two winters. It's not a hugely lively area at night, but between it and Altenmarkt (which is only a 35 - 45 minute walk away) there are several bars, one in Rad is a bit of a club type with plenty of music, and one small one in Altenmarkt is alway lively late at night and has a few events on. Flachau has more of an Apres scene and that is only a few miles away.
I love living in the area though, it's a great central location.

@Sitter, not spent a season there, but would imagine there is more going on in Radstadt/Altenmarkt than Mautendorf? Also a good pool/spa in Altenmarkt. http://www.thermeamade.at/en/

Thanks for the info, not oaky worried about it being lively, so long as there's a bar a short walk away that I can sit and have a quiet beer or two and a chat. I'm not actually living in Mauterndorf, not quite that far down the valley, I'm in the middle of nowhere outside Tweng. I've been to one of the hotels there the odd time, but it's not the same and I don't like walking along the road too much, especially at night/when it's dark. I also figured that being in Radstadt would open up options for day trips to eg Salzburg by train, it's doable from here, but very restricted given bus times between Radstadt and Mauterndorf.

Another fantastic week here, conditions are about as perfect as could be, we've had fresh snow and blue skies, it's been snowing all afternoon and forecast shows lots more snow to come at the weekend, for those heading out next week you are going to have it as good, blue skies predicted for you too, enjoy

If the rest of the area is getting the snow we are, it's gonna be good. Most lifts here in Obertauern were closed, a lunch time just Edelweiss and two t-bars were open (forget which ones). Very windy but spent the afternoon lapping the red at the top of the Edelweiss lift with my group which had knee deep powder on it, and very few people.

Most lifts on hochwurzen closed this morning.
Had a bit of lunch then was about to go home then they reopened the gondola and had freshies all afternoon. Awesome. Sometimes it pays to be patient! Ps very impressed so far with the Schladming area.

@Samerberg Sue, hope you feel better soon, nice that you can work from home this week and recover. I'm currently unpacking a mass of smelly ski socks, thankfully the patched up bag made it home intact. It's a lovely day here, sunny and +8º which feels quite tropical!
I did well to avoid the Amadé virus, I think Vicks First Defence has done its job again.

@queen bodecia, it was great to take your tour virginity! If you fancy another go at it remember its all do-able any night, not just Full Moon!

Kooky / Flangesax. Our annual school ski trip arrives in Altenmarkt on Saturday (80 kids and 8 staff). We stay at the Ennshof and have been doing so for the past 8 years because the area provides our groups with just the sort of challenge they need. Reading through this thread it looks like we are going to be greeted with some outstanding snow conditions ? We tend to ski Eben day 1, Altenmarkt/Radstadt day 2, Zauchensee day 3, Forstau day 4, Eben (for our race) day 5 and Altenmarkt/Radstadt day 6. Thanks for the continual updates..... can't wait.

@Kooky, Zauch is too well known. Head over the border to Shladders. Shame the snow was a bit worked over, looks like some good touring weather coming and hopefully some new snow next weekend for my arrival.
A cool photo of a friends 14yo jumping their driveway this morning. @Kooky, I think LB had his hand in this jump & spot the advertising.
