My Options include cancel hotel and take a hit on the deposit (euros 500) and try and book elsewhere. Hired car so can get to anywhere within easy reach of Zurich airport.
Ischl or Solden, any views, anyone? Both seem to have much more cover than St Anton at the moment (but neither have resort runs open).

@TheManOnTheBus, Ischgl is nearer; Sölden probably has more snow.

Off Piste is a nogo even at altitude is (not skiable) very thin & extremely dangerous
I am giving an independent honest assessment
Dont believe thr hype but as aiways it can change overnigtr but

@TheManOnTheBus, I suggest that it would be better to spend your €500 in the many fine catering establishments of St Anton then go to those other resorts that may or may not offer marginally more (poor) skiing.
No doubt other trips are planned this season during which you can make up the mileage

So back to the mtb and hiking boots !
Thanks for the reality check, just booked airport parking so I guess that means I'm definitely going..
Keep fingers crossed for some midweek snow

Hiking boots? If you are ok biking or hiking you are better than me. I cannot think of a more depressing scenario than no snow at a ski resort that I look forward to all season. Might be facing it anyway if things don't change.

It is not very safe to go hiking in the mountains at this time
of the year. Weather can change in the blink of an eye.
Stay low down .

If I were in this position (trip booked and paid for, none or very limited skiing) it would be disappointing but I'd be going and just make the most of it. From St. Anton why not take a day or two out and go to Innsbruck for a nosey around the town and Christmas markets?

Cervinia and Zermatt are within easy reach of Zurich and have MASSES of snow. Snowline at about 2000. So you have at least 2000 till 3900 (Kleine Matterhorn) to ski on.
Prices in Aosta valley are considerably lower than in Austria. You may even recover some of that E 500.
But most importantly, you get to ski on decent snow. On slopes that are NOT overcrowded.
Switching from one snow-starved Austrian resort to another that has only slightly more, isn't going to help. Even if the snow is marginally better, you will have enormous numbers of skiers from surrounding resorts going there by car and bus. So what little snow there is, is going to be over-populated.
Snow conditions @Salette, 2200m, above Valtournenche, ski area shared with Cervinia

Is there any sign of more pistes opening in Lech? I'm out there next weekend for 3 days and 2 pistes totally 9 km doesn't sound much to play with.

Not quite true - the more southerly glaciers (Stubai, Sölden) have done quite a lot better for snow than the more northerly resorts like St Anton and Ischgl.
This is from a guide at Stubai, yesterday:

Thank you for this. Interesting. Cervinia is 4.5 hours drive from Zurich and Zermatt 3.5. Worth pondering, but given that we intend to ski on day of arrival and on day of departure, with long dries other ends, its not ideal at all.
Ischl still my favourite for a switch. But your though that it might only be "marginally" better and overcrowded (as a result of people like me all switching) is of course also a worry.
Arrrgggghhhhh!

@TheManOnTheBus, - may be worth checking your current hotel booking; would you only take a hit on your deposit? or be charged the full amount (under Austrian Hotel law). We're in a similar situation and looks like cancellation now (7 days to go) would mean we pay 100%

Thanks. That's that. You are right. They have my CC details and their cancellation policy (cancelling more than 2 days before) is 50%. So they'd take more off my CC and not worth it.
Staying put and praying.

Most of the mountain at St Anton closed but they have 3 blue runs open from the top of the Gondola and a couple of chair lifts. There is also one run and a chair lift open down the road at St Christoph. Snow is actually pretty good considering, pretty much all made with canons, a little slippery in parts but not too bad. The run to the bottom of the Gondola not open but we saw a few manage it ok, bit narrow in parts for boarders.

Driving over the Arlberg Pass last night both Stuben and St Christoph actually seem pretty snowy! Not great depths, but snow on the ground at village level at least.

yeah but.... it's less than 6 days till the Christmas week guests (including my niece and family) arrive and whilst 2 days decent snowfall can indeed transform the prospects there doesn't seem, at present, much likelihood of that. The straw to grasp is that forecasts remain very uncertain so maybe the FL won't go up (as currently predicted by snow-forecast) to over 3000m.
My niece is not very used to snow forecasts and was freaking out a bit - I've tried to reassure her for the last week about the unreliability of weather sites just based on GFS output but it's becoming harder to sound convincing.

The lift company is making snow 24×7 subject to temperature in a battle
to get Gampen & runs down to town open for next weekend. Rendl also maybe.
We could be helped a bit by a bit of mother nature in this week.

Mate, you are now my 11 year old daughter's favourite person in the world..
Trying to get her up that t bar 2 years ago, knee deep in snow was the only time in my longish skiing life when I felt totally helpless.
And then after getting her back to the bottom, followed by a longish walk back up the piste to the Black that crosses, and her getting down the black in almost white out was one of my proudest.
