From the Dolomiti Superski website:
Thanks to the close collaboration of Veneto Strade and Avalanche Centre of Arabba, tomorrow morning the road Arabba - Passo Campolongo will be secured.
The opening of the road is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
Guests of Arabba arriving Saturday, February 8th will travel the road of the Val Badia and arrive in Arabba traveling from Campolongopass.
Veneto Strade and Avalanche Center are constantly monitoring the road Arabba - Pieve di Livinallongo, and try to open it as soon as there will be favorable conditions.

Excellent conditions @Seceda. Also on Seiser Alm good riding on Florian & Goldknopf; taking the bus back from Saltria to Monte Pana is quite the experience under these conditions...
The sun was out today on mt. Helm (Vierschach)

Hi,
New to this forum but hoping someone can help.
We are flying into Venice Marco Polo tommorrow morning and trying to get to Colfosco.
It appears a number of the main mountain road passes are shut due to the avalanche risk.
Can anyone offer any advice as to a route that is fully open and doesnt involve a very long detour!?
Thanks in advance.
Matt

matthubbard30,
that is a difficult one - the route from Alleghe is no longer showing as blocked ; however it is snowing again, so may be completely different picture tomorrow.....
My post (6 up) gives a link to the latest information (Italian only tho')

Tough one. I'd call your hotel for advice.
My plan would be to go via Cortina, Toblach and Bruneck, coming into Corvara from the north but I haven't got any info re road closures

Hi there, we're going to VEN then onto corvara on Sunday. We're going with Colletts and the info from them is that they hope to go via Cortina. The other alternative is via Bolzano. The Corrina route will add at least an hour.
No doubt someone else will be around soon with some better local knowledge. See website above for road info.
Good luck.

Both alleghe and campolongo passes are apparently open now.
Would suggest winter tyres and/or chains if driving.
Snowing in arabba, but I think next proper dump is Monday ?
Edit: no idea about route via cortina. Detour via bolzano is several hours.

If you are not committed to driving you could go by train from Venice Mestre to Bruneck, changing at Verona and Franzensfeste - it's about 4 hours. And then about 45 mins to Colfosco by taxi.

How has the road been into Selva? Not flying for another 2 weeks, but as it hasn't stopped snowing for two week, it may not stop for another two weeks.
I paid more extra for a mid-size car, as I didn't want to go up in the mountains in a flimsy tin can... so tried to get a heavier car. I didn't rent chains, my back up plan is to go buy chains or reserve last minute.
Ideally, I'd want to go somewhere else in the Dolomites other than Selva, but as this is just 2 days of skiing before we join the hut to hut tour, keeping it simple seemed like a better idea.
andy, do you think I should be OK with this, or pay even more get a 4WD?

Still got chains on my car. Driving out tomorrow am. Roads have been strange. Eg definitely winter tyres or chains around arabba and upto top of pass. Top of same pass to corvara was doable on summer tyres no problem, and its steeper with more switchbacks even with alpine rescue escort on going!
Don't know about other local passes.

Well yesterday (the first time for a week that the Sella Ronda was open) I skied round to Selva from Arabba then went up to Seceda and skied down to Ortisei/St Ulrich then caught the skibus back to Selva. The road from Ortisei/St Ulrich to Selva was fine, so at the moment there are no problems driving up the valley to Selva.

HeidiAmsterdam, I wouldn't bother with 4WD - but be ready to buy or rent chains if the roads still look v snowy.

pam w, Alastair Pink, andy,
Thanks for the first hand reports...also I haven't booked any lodging for the first two nights, what's available is very expensive, but I see other places are available for a week, so going to gamble that something cheaper will appear closer to the day. Back up plan is I stay in Bolzano. But not prepared to pay mega-euro's, if necessary I can drive, that's what I rented a car for. Also, it gives me the flexibility to stay just off the motorway, where presumably the roads will be clear or get cleared first.
The road clearing folks up there must be making some major over time money this winter!

HeidiAmsterdam, the snow situation is not the same all over. There is FAR more snow in Arabba than there is in Selva, for instance.

Weather looking ok for the half term week at the moment - bit mild but not too much precipitation, although obviously things could change - I think we've had enough snow!

I came into arabba on Saturday, over the campolongo, the roads were fine then.
It has been snowing all day today, but it is surprisingly warm! - between -2 and +2 ( nearly rain at mid-day).
Snow is excellent, but flat light makes it 'interesting'

Simply fantastic conditions in the sella Ronda. The sun came out today which was glorious. Pretty much everything open but but a simply ridiculous amount of snow in resort. More than I've seen at resort level anywhere for over 40 years. Anyone coming out in the next couple of months should have plenty !
Food as superb and good value as ever.

Good to hear - out there soon with a big group of mixed abilities. With all that snow, are the pistes getting cut up badly in the afternoon? Some hate that on the steeper runs!

Quite a lot of traffic on the sella Ronda but with coolish temps the pistes are not getting cut up except at the very bottom of some steeper runs. More snow on Sunday and monday

I have 7 more sleeps before I'm there.
I'm not sure if I already mentioned, but I did order snow from late January until 20 Feb, after that only bluebird days for 9 days running.
Up to this point, it would seem a bit over delivery on my order, which I can hardly complain about, as long as Mother Nature over delivers on the bluebird days as well.
I have sunscreen packed.

lizski, falzarego pass is apparently closed at the moment, presumably because of Avalanche risk, which would mean no buses up from amarenterola.
