GM today with guide, Rick Marchant.
Now in great condition. Lavancher bowl excellent, off the top just what we wanted.

Banger conditions in Flelgere yesterday! (friday) Spent the afternoon lapping the back of the Index chair where there was plenty of fresh. All the FWT competitors were out scoping lines. Managed to get out of work and up the mountain in time for the final skier's run, haha. Great atmosphere and there was still some epic fresh snow at the bottom of the competition face this afternoon.

Friday was my last day and we headed down to St Gervais. Impressive area & lots of accessible off piste, with a range of pitches to choose from depending on the conditions. A good day to finish the week

Jonathan Bell, thanks for the Lavancher update, we were talking about heading there tomorrow and your post may just have sealed the deal.

Back bowls at Le Tour. Fresh tracks in shin deep powder, best at the top off Tete de Balme. Stayed off the steeper slopes. Great skiing.

We were also at Le Tour today and found lots of soft snow. Both fixx and I stacked it when getting air as we came up over a roller. fixx ended up doing half a back flip
This was the aftermath...

It's been snowing here for the last hour and has put down a couple of CMs. The morning might bring some Boom Booms.

They're reporting between 25-30cm snowfall last night but there are not many lifts open and I haven't heard many booms this morning...

Interesting day at Le Tour today. Lots of shin-deep fresh snow but with wind crust. Visibility was variable, it was bitterly cold and the wind picked up something fierce but I must have laid about 10 - 15 fresh tracks, which is a frikkin' miracle in Cham
Around 1pm, dark clouds came in and the light turned absolutely flat, so I skied a few more lines then headed home for a hot shower and hot coffee. Have finally thawed out!

Zero_G, we chose GM, fewer lines but still some left from the night shift! Light came and went, another great days skiing. Home for pancakes and lemon curd.

jbob, I figured that everyone would head to GM today, so opted for Le Tour and I'm glad I did. When I left, there were still lines to be had beside existing lines on every face on the Le Tour side. Though the post-lunch crowd will have taken those, no doubt.
Verbier tomorrow. I'm a Verbier virgin, so am looking forward to it.

We were at GM today as well, it was a pretty good day all in, plenty of nice fresh snow, loads of tracks but it didn't spoil the skiing. Light was mostly good, it clouded over for a bit and the light went quite flat but we were quite low down at that point so stayed there and it was much brighter, might head back up tomorrow.

GM today - pretty much flat light all day, so a bit grim. Some tracked soft stuff in Canadian bowl, which was fun. Very variable conditions in Lavancher bowl (from wind-blown crust, to ice chunks, to heavily tracked soft deep stuff). The secret gully still had good, soft snow – looks like few have skied it since Sunday's snowfall but the level of snow has risen and we were skiing through bushes up the sides of the gully.
Last day of skiing tomorrow for this trip, so undecided where to go. Looks like it's going to be flat light everywhere with some wind and snowfall.

Last day in Chamonix today, went up GM again. Everything was totally skied out but it was a lovely day and the snow was still soft if skied out so still had a fun day. Will try to add a few pics when I get back to a decent internet connection. Have really loved Chamonix, it has such a gnarly reputation but there is loads of easily accessible off piste as well so hopefully will be back in a few years.

Incredibly disappointing morning up Brevent. Powder on moguls!
I worked late last night and the snow was settling in Servoz. I worked early this morning, it was still dumping at 5am. I got back to Cham at 8:30, still snowing. Que'd at Brevent and it was disappointing skiing.
I wonder if GM or mid station of Midi being north faces suffered less from a crusty underlayer???

Skied Les Houches at lunch. Off piste surprisingly untouched and calf deep.
Not so much base underneath in the trees.
Getting really heavy down low, base even worse.
Pistes great and soft at the edge, cutting through to the ice/hard snow in the middle.
Needs a snowfall without punters, or grooming in the morning not the evening.

+1
and the same for a lot of the pistes before 11am.
Stayed away from the trees though, as had seen yesterday that there was very little coverage and being on my GS skis I didn't want to risk anything!

jbob,
Yes. Toula often very disappointing and can be dangerous because timing is crucial wrt the amount of sun. I've known friend avalanched on there perhaps coz they were bit late in the day
I do about six to eights days a season with guide- always seem to be best days whatever the weather.

Skied Le Tour this morning/lunchtime. Snow was good, but bucketing down out of the sky. Gave up when I couldn't see anymore to ski offpiste. The snow was accumulating on top of me rather quickly on chairlifts too...
Also had a rather hairy drive back on the roads before Argentiere once the snow had been falling a while, as it was piling up really fast - this was despite having winter tyres. The traction control was going bananas. Still, I'm looking forward to tomorrow, probably Grands Montets

Nice untracked uncrowded Brevent this afternoon. Some sun/wind/temp affected snow on some aspects and elevations.
Really nice to be able to make turns to the valley floor.

Went to Grands Montets to meet up with birger - started early, got up quickly on the chairlift, and wow! what a morning. Great snow, got a fair bit of fresh tracks by moving around quickly in the morning, and lovely in the sun over lunch.
Visibility started to go in the afternoon after a few more runs, and being GM it was fairly tracked out by then. But still, really enjoyable day

Zero_G, I've chickened out of skiing today due to the vis, and sore legs from the rest of the week - need to be fresh for tomorrow morning! Still plenty coming down, though the flakes aren't quite as big anymore.

Went to Courmayeur today and it didn't stop snowing from the time we got there until we left at 3pm!
Great snow conditions and made it more challenging/fun for myself on the GS skis as I wasn't expecting that much snow, so didn't take the fat skis with. Huge smiles all round from our group!
Where to for tomorrow!!???

Er, Erm, you clearly have the internet, have you not seen the weather forecast?
And did you not see the big flakes when you left France?
