I am sometimes in Val Thorens in June to renovate the apartment and it is an eery experience.
It is a ghost town like something from I am legend or survivors. Absolutely nobody there except a few builders, one or two other owners and with the only restaurant open being Saint Peres - just for the builders.
At night it is strange not seeing any lights at all on in the village.
A ski resort out of season is a strange place when compared to the bustle it has during half term week.

Totally clouded day with 10 degrees at 2000 meter. Below 2000 meter there is hardly no snow left, but in Val Thorens there is enough for the coming days.

It's amazing how run down the mountain cafes look when you walk round them in the summer. The snow covers up all manner of rotting timber.
