Many thanks espri, fingers crossed. It needs to be VERY speedy!

Bad times. I dont see the reasoning behind the snowblades, please explain.
Best wishes, i know my leg would have to be falling off to stop my trip.
A few years ago i skied with my arm in a sling with a smashed elbow after slipping at the pool in Flaine, not a problem except i had to go without poles. |
That's the reasoning! I won't need poles with blades, and also they are lighter to carry. I will see, if I think my arm can cope with pole plants, I'll take my skis.
I'm very anti-snowblades but I'd rather do that than nothing.
At least my legs still work, that's the main thing.

Nope, still dont get it, you can certainly ski without poles. Have you not seen some of the expert carvers?
Lighter i do get but most of Saalbach is pretty close to the lifts so there should be minimal carrying.

Yes I have, and I'm not among them
Anyway, I will see how I feel next week. It's also the fact that I'd have to get my ski bag in and out of the car and carry it around a lot, along with case/bootbag/handluggage which could be tricky.

Piccadilly, What rotten luck - my sympathy. At least Saalbach is not a bad place to be if you do need to go easy on the skiing - plenty of other entertainment. It could also be an ideal opportunity to try one of those alpine pursuits that most of us never get round to, such as snowshoe walking; I saw a couple of guys doing that today in glorious sunshine and in deep snow on top of the Bernkogel; it looked as if they'd taken a hike from a distant ridge across snow fields.

Scarlet Fez, Try 'Mango' opposite the Spar supermarket - it's a new bar and we recommend it very highly!
SCOUSE, - does a fantastic, spicy gulasch soup (second only to the g.s. at the Hecherhuette), but I'm unaware of a happy hour. Do you mean the Bergeralm, whose happy hour from 3.30pm is turning into quite a meeting place? (Also I do hope you'll pop into the Hinterhag Alm for a beer and a sing-song on the way down - would seem churlish not to!)

P.S Don't miss 'Cuckoo' on Monday night in Bobby's and on Wednesday night in the Underbar. Last night they closed with a rip-roaring 'Whisky in the Jar' - had the Underbar really rocking!

Piccadilly, Sorry to hear your news. One of our party was injured just before we went to Saalbach last week - hence my question about meeting up at huts accessible by lift. He nonetheless had a great time and was really glad he went. He loved the walking and just being in the mountains and natuerlich the ApresSki

pjd, aww thanks, that does make me feel better! Being in the mountains is always better than sitting at home! Hope he's feeling better.
Chasseur, thank you so much. I think I'll be OK, it's not too painful this morning. I will hopefully be able to ski in some capacity, I'll just have to go a bit slower!

Scarlet Fez, I wouldnt worry too much about that. I have skied there in March at over 15 deg. Snow was still okay except in the strong afternoon sun where it got slushy lower down.
Biggest problem with those temps are that any precipitation in the day will fall as rain in the village, up the slopes will still be snow. Also it will get chopped up on the busy runs in no time but if you know where to head again it wont be a problem.

I need to take a few mobile numbers next week! TT, we need to sort meeting up with Chasseur and the Hotel Konig posse some time between the 3rd-8th of Feb, even if it's just for a few beers in Bobby's one night, or some Hinterhagalm apres!
Plus we are going to drag Chasseur and his son on one of your itineraries anyway (sadly I may have to bin the idea of black 14 after all, as it's turned out) AND force them to party afterwards as well.

I think b*astards mean FitZwilliams .....seriously p*ssed .....they were good skis (

...and they were split and paired with mine. I feel extremely sympathetic (and we were having such a great time) and would cheerfully shoot the culprits. I also feel a little puzzled, if not slightly insulted, that the Fitzwilliams (???) took Scouse's but left my precious Volkl Tigersharks.
A time for damage limitation - file a report with the police, claim on insurance and rent a good pair from Hansi (20% if you say I sent you).

So unfortunate TT, of all the skis there to have his taken. Hard i know but SCOUSE, has to get on with it and try and not let it spoil his trip. Thats what insurance is for.
What were they? Apparently targetted if they were split. I would spend the rest of the week looking out for them ready to crack a skull.
Poor SCOUSE, having to meet Hansi and take his shots. We went three times as my mates boots were hurting him so changed them. In the end we wouldnt go in with him so we werent forced into the drinking.

SCOUSE, you had your skis stolen on the first day!?? That's such bad luck.
Don't let it spoil your hol, hire a pair, report it to the police (asap) and let insurance sort it out.
Will definitely make sure I lock mine, what a shame.
Still, sounds like the Hinterhagalm is a right laugh, I look forward to the Gangnam vid!
