Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bad times. I dont see the reasoning behind the snowblades, please explain.
Best wishes, i know my leg would have to be falling off to stop my trip.
A few years ago i skied with my arm in a sling with a smashed elbow after slipping at the pool in Flaine, not a problem except i had to go without poles.

That's the reasoning! I won't need poles with blades, and also they are lighter to carry. I will see, if I think my arm can cope with pole plants, I'll take my skis.

I'm very anti-snowblades but I'd rather do that than nothing.

At least my legs still work, that's the main thing.

Nope, still dont get it, you can certainly ski without poles. Have you not seen some of the expert carvers?
Lighter i do get but most of Saalbach is pretty close to the lifts so there should be minimal carrying.

Yes I have, and I'm not among them Laughing

Anyway, I will see how I feel next week. It's also the fact that I'd have to get my ski bag in and out of the car and carry it around a lot, along with case/bootbag/handluggage which could be tricky.

Piccadilly, What rotten luck - my sympathy. At least Saalbach is not a bad place to be if you do need to go easy on the skiing - plenty of other entertainment. It could also be an ideal opportunity to try one of those alpine pursuits that most of us never get round to, such as snowshoe walking; I saw a couple of guys doing that today in glorious sunshine and in deep snow on top of the Bernkogel; it looked as if they'd taken a hike from a distant ridge across snow fields.

[quote="Piccadilly"]Bad news, I fractured my shoulder today (top of humerus) Sad

Sorry to hear......Hopefully pain should have eased a lot in 8 days & good to ski.....I personally wouldn't go for blades, tried them once for an hour & was glad to get back on my planks....you can turn on a sixpence & don't need poles but I think you would be more stable on planks (even if you use 1 pole) so risk of falling & doing further damage maybe a bit less (unless you are as bad as me) Embarassed ......best of luck anyways....

Wheeeeee......... 1 more sleep to go snowHead .........18 hr drive to come Confused

PS I will have to sample the Jagermeisters next week just to make sure they will be good for you.........for medicinal purposes only NehNeh

Thank you, and have an AMAZING time. Go easy on those Jaegermeisters!!

I've tried blades a couple of times, many years ago. They look awful but they are very easy to use, and if I can't put weight on a pole I might have to make do with them.

Anyway as you say, hopefully the pain will have diminished by the time I go

SCOUSE, - does a fantastic, spicy gulasch soup (second only to the g.s. at the Hecherhuette), but I'm unaware of a happy hour. Do you mean the Bergeralm, whose happy hour from 3.30pm is turning into quite a meeting place? (Also I do hope you'll pop into the Hinterhag Alm for a beer and a sing-song on the way down - would seem churlish not to!)

Piccadilly, Sorry to hear your news. One of our party was injured just before we went to Saalbach last week - hence my question about meeting up at huts accessible by lift. He nonetheless had a great time and was really glad he went. He loved the walking and just being in the mountains and natuerlich the ApresSki

Scarlet Fez, I wouldnt worry too much about that. I have skied there in March at over 15 deg. Snow was still okay except in the strong afternoon sun where it got slushy lower down.
Biggest problem with those temps are that any precipitation in the day will fall as rain in the village, up the slopes will still be snow. Also it will get chopped up on the busy runs in no time but if you know where to head wink again it wont be a problem.

I need to take a few mobile numbers next week! TT, we need to sort meeting up with Chasseur and the Hotel Konig posse some time between the 3rd-8th of Feb, even if it's just for a few beers in Bobby's one night, or some Hinterhagalm apres!

Plus we are going to drag Chasseur and his son on one of your itineraries anyway (sadly I may have to bin the idea of black 14 after all, as it's turned out) AND force them to party afterwards as well.

A time for damage limitation - file a report with the police, claim on insurance and rent a good pair from Hansi (20% if you say I sent you).

So unfortunate TT, of all the skis there to have his taken. Hard i know but SCOUSE, has to get on with it and try and not let it spoil his trip. Thats what insurance is for.
What were they? Apparently targetted if they were split. I would spend the rest of the week looking out for them ready to crack a skull.
Poor SCOUSE, having to meet Hansi and take his shots. We went three times as my mates boots were hurting him so changed them. In the end we wouldnt go in with him so we werent forced into the drinking.

SCOUSE, you had your skis stolen on the first day!?? That's such bad luck.

Don't let it spoil your hol, hire a pair, report it to the police (asap) and let insurance sort it out.

Will definitely make sure I lock mine, what a shame.

Still, sounds like the Hinterhagalm is a right laugh, I look forward to the Gangnam vid!
