Some comments... If I may...
I skied with Mike Hammond in Tignes in 2006. He had a specially kitted-out camper-van.
He skied bumps faster than me on his one leg. He is an inspiration.
I also spent a week teaching a guy who had had a stroke and instead of dying he made up his mind to learn to ski.
He could only control his right side and managed to ski the town lift at Val d'Isere at the end of the week.
It just makes me realise we Brits like to do things the hard way. If he'd skied in his youth, maybe he wouldn't have been a smoker and had a stroke.
It's heartbreaking that we have to send our youth to war before we can recruit them as athletes after they get blown up.
It seems heartless to say it would be better to send them to the mountains to be athletes and not do the war thing. The guys are heroes.
OK, Of course I understand that we need to safeguard our National strategic priorities, and to do that, we need to project military power. Which comes at a human and monetary cost.
Blood and Treasure. But, if the Ski team could get a week's Afghanistan money it would last 20 years.
I still think it was lazy programming to re-run the speed-clibming of the Eiger from last year.
Ed Leigh seems to be the counterpoint to skiing. Anything that is Not About Skiing, call Ed, and he'll elbow his way in front of a Ski Sunday camera to inform us how cool it is.
"The Downhill Racers are the true heroes, flashing down the course at 90mph wearing only a thin suit."
"OR SO I USED To THINK" (I knew there was something wrong somewhere)...
"Checkout this dude running up the Eiger with no safety rope".
Victory for Leigh. Yes, correct, there was nothing whatsoever to do with skiing about this piece, we all saw it last year, and he used up at least 5 minutes of Ski Sunday time.
I say "Yes, your stuff has merit. So go and get your own show."

Hah - Grazzer walking round with taped out logo on his sh!tty Nevica. Bit rich when someone at Beeb had obviously stitched up a cosy Kjus deal last lympics.
While it's nice for hockey fans to see a few highlights of the miracle on ice, one has to question what the ££££ it has to do with skiing or snowboarding - time to chage the show to "Snow, ice or vaguely low friction surface Sunday"?

ridiculous, isn't it? No wonder we get posts from people saying "we can't go skiing till the beginning of March but we've never been at the end of the season before, will there be any snow?".

So now we kno: They are about to change the name from "Ski Sunday" to "Drama in the Mountains (and skating rink) with Ed and Graham".
(I thought it was likely to be "Me - By Ed Leigh", which would be shorter, accurate and it rhymes).
Chemminey
--------------
Do you think they film all the Lads' Fireside Chats in one session at the beginning of the year?
Something's Up?
------------------
Graham was just going through the motions by the end this week. Something's happened?
It started off great!
I liked the course walk this week. It made you realise how awesome that course is. Big sweeping curves, blind dropoffs and lumps and bumps.
I also thought Graham added an enormous amount to the commentary. There is no substitute for experience and knowledge. The standard commentary is delivered by someone who is a professional talker, and talks only about the split times. Graham knows what he's talking about, and the difference is night and day for a skier.
Ed...
------
Ed thinks he's still going to be in the job in 2014, and get go to the Olympics, so he can eat some more. "I've been impressed with how mouthwatering I think coming back here for the Olympics will be".
He has a great skill. He can talk with his mouth full and you can't tell the difference.
I think he has to realise that if we are to be subjected to watching and listening to him eat and look through restaurant menus, we have to have the feeling he's sung for his supper. Maybe it'll be better when they give him his own show.
Ice Hockey Sundae?
-------------------------
The "Miracle on Ice" 10 minutes was obviously a replacement for something.
I almost switched over to "Dancing on Ice" this week. Not quite. It was quite interesting to see round a Russian building site.
The Russkys should give them a big backhander as the programme was a good ad for the Rosa Khutor.
I think I'll go next year when my leg's better.
That's all folks
-----------------
Well, that's it till next snow season. No need to see out the rest of the season. Why couldn't they do the travelogue and hikes to monasteries now, and do proper race coverage during the race season.
We could go and see summer training, and see more about new types of kit. Like those new powder skis with cambers.
I'm a bit worried about the Boys. They could do with some more female company.

Well Spotted. I played back the tape and Graham actually said that!
That's a triple-negative. He needs to get an even number of negatives to be positive.
Couldn't they have post-processed that one?
Whatever I've said in criticism, I've enjoyed Ski Sunday. It would take great skill to make a mess of such a brilliant subject.
The guys have done well, and I wish them and the programme many happy returns.

It just showed that the boys were flown out for a very short time just for the mens races. They clearly weren't in town for the ladies races which is why Graham had to walk down the course while it was being prepared (the week before when the mens races were on) rather than ski down it like he does with the mens and we didn't have the shot of him standing in front of the finish area, merely a voice over commenting on where the racers lost time etc.
I actually enjoyed the Ed bit on Russia and the challenge that the Olympics has brought to them. Some stunning infrastructure going in.

Was thinking about this years Ski Sunday after last nights Ski (?) Sunday..............overall I think it was very poor, the only remotely intersting articles were the Hannenkham, evening skiing from Schladming, Lindsey Vonn interview, Sochi Olympics overview and also the monastery stuff, beyond that absolute garbage.
Epitomised last night with 1980 coverage of cold war Ice Hockey, WTF was all that about?
Waste of time and money IMO, BBC need to get a grip.............Graeme Bell and Ed can do better than this, they are good guys operating in a straight jacket of BBC-ism I suspect.
Long live Eurosport HD!!

With achilles, the shows fine. Half devoted to the traditional downhill coverage and the other half in segments. Ok some are hit, some are miss but thats a matter of perspective. The Miracle on Ice bit last night - yeah bit tenuous and had a 'tacked on' feel, but I like hockey and it was one helluva game. Always surprised how quickly the SS run is over. Six shows per season - and did I miss something or did they cover just one of the womens races this season? I know the Beeb are buying in the race footage from 3rd parties but even so...

hammerite, Well that whole segment with the fire was Chamonix, Mancuso blog and twitter says they arrived late on Tue night with first training run on WED.
The segment with MR Bell on the ladies downhill run there is no Blue Lines or gates so I can only assume his bit was shot before then. Plus for the fist time this season no shots of Mr Bell in the finish area giving commentary!
Evidence suggest he was not there and at best only had an opportunity to film prior to the training run starting for the ladies.

I agree. It was the David Vine days featuring the likes of Pirmin Zurbriggen and Peter Muller that first kindled my interest in skiing. It might be hindsight but it seemed to be more exciting and had more actual skiing content than the current effort. I don’t buy the “you need former participants to present it / add value” line. I bet Harry Carpenter wouldn’t have lasted long in the boxing ring against the likes of Frank Bruno, Joe Frazier etc but he was a better commentator in the bits that I heard than they were.
The show has now become more of a vehicle for promoting the presenters than the sport.

The racing bit is still interesting, even though I've seen it on Eurosport. Graham Bell has a different perspective. I wish he would do the commentary on Eurosport.
The Russian bit on the Olympics was OK but leave off the ice hockey! It's nothing to do with ski or boarding. What next, football when they have to play on a frozen pitch? And why does the programme start several weeks after the FIS races start and doesn't even continue until the end? Will they tell us the results of all this year's championships next January?

Eurosport rocks, if you ignore Nick Fellowes on commentary.
I saw Ed in Wengen. the reason for the bad hair is he's losing it big-time, and going for the "Bobby Charlton" comb-over. He needs to reach for the clippers and do the deed. That's why he always wears a hat. I know the problem...the same happened to me. It's time to leave denial and embrace baldness. It's not so bad...and you don't look quite so daft with the stripe of hair retrieved from down near your shoulder blades and pasted across your forehead, like a corporal's stripe. Very, very cheesy.
I liked Ski Sunday, at times this season. But at other times it was abysmal. And where's the classic theme tune gone...we didn't even get a full rendition at the end of the last progam. Disappionting. I think it was better when it was simple...music, hello, race, interview, feature, goodbye, music, roast beef. Happy sunday.

Ski Savoie, quite a punchy first post. It's not obligatory to like Graham and Ed - but you do come across as someone with a bit of a grudge. And that's quite a strong allegation against Graham Bell, even though you used 'allegedly'. Anonymity on snowheads is fine - but care to tell us a bit about where you're coming from?

Today, I dashed home in time for the men's parallel slalom from Moscow, only to find the tennis still going for another 55 minutes When it eventually came on, they apologised for being, "a little bit late"! We'd missed most of the competition.
It happens so often I've lost count. But they don't give a fig as there is no other choice.
