geetee, I think the Pleney office is open from 8:00. BASS will be fine if you just let them know. They'll have someone there to pick up latecomers.

Had a late start due to not arriving in resort until 4am (I'm not complaining - at least I arrived).
Had a hack around Linderats and Les Crozets on telemarks. Lots of lovely chopped up stuff both sides (my favourite) - although Les Crozets obviously thin in places. Les Crozets stad was particularly fab.
Initially blue skies before a ferocious front moved in around 13:00.
Very high easterly winds and evidence of small, remotely-triggered slab avalanches on easterly aspects.
Be extra careful off-piste for the next few days.

FlyingStantoni,
Fully agree that extreme care is needed venturing off piste, hell of a lot of wind slab and numerous slides. Some people venturing into some very silly places and appear to be completely oblivious to the risk to themselves and others.
There is some great snow, but selection of the correct slope is obviously the most important factor.
Have safe fun.

Pamski I've ordered them online but you still have to go to the office to collect them. We had passes last year and I was hoping that I'd be able to recharge them online but it seems that you can't. 8.30 might just work and I'll give the ski school a call and tell them that we're likely to be a little late. Hopefully they can do a couple of laps and then we can catch up with them. I hope the queue for the Pleney gondola isn't too long!!

What's left of the powder? Worth going looking for off piste tomorrow? I hear PdS got more than Verbier.

FlyingStantoni That's exactly what I'm going to do I've just emailed the Pleney lift office and I'll drop a line to Julie at BASS (she'll still be there won't she?) to let them know that S might be a little late. 8am would be good.

BobinCH, Lots to be had on Les Crozets side - especially if you're prepared to make an effort.
I hate to be you mother, but do be careful. The avi risk is probably going to be 4 tomorrow on the Swiss side.

Hi winds this side have stopped cable car out of Champery running! It's a bit wind blown on top and in Les Croset apparently. Big jump up in temperature over night here and it's now spitting with sleety rain in the village.

FlyingStantoni you're right, the office opens at 8am and I've now got the instructor's details so I just need to call him if we're running late. All sorted (I hope)

Sad to report that the new Les Gets "red egg" (Chavannes telecabine) has hit another delay as a result of a fatality. Appears that one of the construction team fell from a ladder http://www.ledauphine.com/actualite/2010/12/21/chute-mortelle-sur-le-domaine-skiable-des-gets
The six man chair is up and running but beginners will be dependant on the shuttle busses being run on the Chavannes Road. Fingers crossed this issue doesn't take us into the New Year week but there will clearly need to be a pretty full on H&S investigation into the accident.

ctskifam, This is very sad news isn't it.
The whole project seems to have been running right up to the wire and beyond doesn't it. That road will be very, very busy. Assume you still have your two chalets up by the Grand Cry restaurant this year.

Pamski, we do still have the chalets at the top. The Chavannes road has been closed to general traffic to allow the easy flow of shuttle busses the resort has laid on but anyone who has properties on the road is being issued with passes.
They are being very strict on presentation of the pass (an Alp-Line bus with our guests was prevented from going up earlier today because they didn't have one and guests who arrived by car have had to leave it in the resort centre and can only take it up to the chalets after 6pm).

Hi ctskifam. Quick question for you as we can't decide what to do. We're staying at Le Marjorie in March and our friends that we're travelling with will be booking their children into the 360 International ski school as that is who they used last year. We've not booked anything yet but our daughter usually has her lessons with BASS. Would there be any issues in booking with BASS if everyone else is with the other school? I'm inclined to keep her with BASS as that is who we're all used to and as she has skied more than our friends' daughter she would most likely be in a different group anyway. But then if there are other children in the chalet that would be in her class then it might be nice for her to ski with them. What do you think?

Bit of a skid around Avoriaz with famille zzz and friends.
Snow cover somewhat unusual, bits you wouldn't expect to be covered were. Good snow in Fornet, lovely bumps on the Stade, Combette fun. pretty good for this early in the season...

Hi guys - we are coming back to Avoriaz in 3 weeks time after staying in Morzine last winter. I need advice from some locals to find a particular black run that I did by accident (and survived!), but I can't find it on the piste map.
We think it was in the Crosets area between Grand Conche and Mossettes chairs but the map is only showing reds and blues. The run started as a red leading off of a blue linking cat track and then the red veered off to the left and I thought the run leading to the right was blue, but ...... oh no........ half way down, took off my goggles and saw the markers were black not blue. Anyway it was steep but pisted extremely smoothly so I got down ok. Would love to know what and where it is and whether it's normally pisted or whether that was a lucky break in snow conditions.
Looking forward to hearing from the locals!

curry-queen.... I know the bit you are talking about.....
we came off the Mossetes chair and traversed round the blue cat track that loops round the building and then down towards les Crosets.... the reds drop off the right hand side of the cat track.... we went down one expecting a red but it was graded as black - went into a bit of a gully. Was just a bit steep - pretty wide open at the top.
I couldnt see it on any map - I just assumed that it had been re-graded at some point.

Curry-Queen,
You describe the location perfectly, it is not the run from the top of the Grand Conche referred to above by Under a New Name. For some reason it does not seem to appear on piste maps as a black.
Yes, it is usually pisted.

Thanks guys! Ardoyne, are you saying that it does appear on the map, albeit under a different colour, or that it doesn't appear at all? Glad I wasn't going mad anyway.

Hi guys,
Just booked a quick mid-week break in mid Jan.
Any suggestions for GVA-Les Gets transfer Monday evening & back Thu early morning?
Morz Express looks like the best option. Any experience of them?
Thanks,

cardweg, we used Ski-Lifts just before christmas and they provide a great service. I was a little worried as we had a 4.5 hour delay going out and thought we would have a long wait at Geneva for the next transfer but we had no problems at all, in fact as soon as we turned up at the ski-lifts desk we left straight away.

TommyDazzler, good to hear, I'm using ski lifts on Sunday. bookham_mat, think we will be all right for snow, but am guessing it will be pretty hard packed on the pistes. Forecast is for sunny days until wednesday. Fingers crossed for some snow at some point soon.
