Can anyone tell me which bit of Chemmy I'm supporting, now that me and my money have parted company? Do I get to choose?

strong winds this morning, delayed it..so I presume they haven't abated..seems a shame, they should do both in the same day again like at vancover..far better anyway..though might not be for the skiers themselves

The Jury has unanimously decided to cancel today's Ladies' Super Combined in Crans-Montana (SUI) according to the rules. Due to the fact that there is no reserve day available, the SC will not be replaced. The further program in Crans-Montana will stay as scheduled, Saturday DH and Sunday SG. |
No more details given.

Wayne, I don't know about the logging in issue, but IIRC when I click the paypal link it took me to my snow account page - at the bottom of the snow account it should say that you are in for a £20 donation to Chemmy. Putting £20 into the one off payment box took me to my PayPal account where you will find an additional amount added to cover PayPal fees and can proceed with the PayPal. It doesn't sound to me like you are doing anything wrong, but you should find the Chemmy reference at the bottom of the list of things you have bought from SH's on the LH side of the page on (I think) the first link clicked IIRC if that's of any help. Someone 'official' might be able to help with the Logon issue 'cos that didn't happen with me.

So if the SC was cancelled, does that mean Lyndsey Vonn's won, even though Anja Paerson (and a few others) were only just behind her and could easily have overtaken her?!

It's great for everyone to support Chemmy, but a pity that it's not easier for non-snowheads. My dad wanted to contribute, but not surprisingly as a cautious pensioner, only wanted to contribute by cheque made out to a 'chemmy appeal' of some sort. There is apparently no way for him to do this. We all know that Admin is honest and reliable, and trust him to forward all the money raised to Chemmy, but others don't necessarily.

easiski, paypal is 'easy'.
If you don't like on-line payments writing a cheque is also easy but in a different way.
Bank transfers are also easy as they can be done by phone, on-line or in a branch.
That's already 2 payment methods more than you get with many on-line systems.
I made the same suggestion to you via PM as Shimmy Alcott has made here.
I'll quite happily forward a cheque made out directly to Chemmy Alcott (or any other member of the team).
Actually, taking payments via means other than paypal involves me putting a lot of extra work in but I make the effort on behalf of those who can't use paypal or need/wish to avoid its fees.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but it appears that your Dad desires me to set up a bespoke bank account, effectively to handle solely his payment.
Obviously these things are not instantaneous so, if he's planning on dropping a few hundred quid in there, I'll go get the ball rolling but if it's for the sake of £20, frankly I'd be better off making the donation myself on his behalf.
And anyway, as you know, he is a snowHead.

rayscoops, tax. Hmmm... If a group of people individually gift £20 to someone I reckon it's OK. But the taxman is desperate for revenue and they call the shots so who knows?

Bode Swiller, just a thought really as the dosh is actually going through a third person/company, plus also is snowheads actually acting as a charity without such status? Only flagging it up as a mate once fell foul of the HK Stock Exchange for trying to sell something on a 'collective' basis, all very innocent but they came down really hard on him, so sometimes there are rules lurking out there that we are unaware of.

admin, nothing is ever simple it seems
Bode Swiller, From what I can remember, cash gifts of below £250 per annum between individuals are not subject to taxation. Above this value, they are still not classified as income but may be subject to inheritance tax.

No rayscoops, snowHeads is not 'acting as a charity without such status'. Where have we claimed charitable status?
Your mate might have been selling something and so liable to tax but nothing is being sold here.
The money has been gifted and all that we have been given will be passed on hence no tax liability.

What exactly are we saying re the tax implications? Chemmy is being gifted money.
It's not income, we are not buying anything, its not obligatory, no-one has solicited the money, its not in return for services or goods: so what exactly would be the case of the IR?
I'm not trying to claim gift aid - are you? Is Snowheads? I've already pay tax on it (sob) before it arrived in my grubby mitt. Surely they can't want more? ( well, obviously they always want more, but you know what I mean)
If Mr Tax man would prefer us to line up and hand over stacks of £20 notes, I'm happy to do that too, just as if I gave cash to any individual as a present.
I'm not sure I understand the concern.

Only if you die within 7 years of giving it... oh and the person you give it to is receiving over (roughly AFAIR) £250,000 from your estate.
I like Chemmy... but not that much!

In any event, it's up to the recipient(s) as to whether or not they declare it. We're calling it a gift, HMRC will view it as unearned income. I'm sure that the expenses for Chemmy et al outweigh their income so probably not an issue to declare it.
