Thank god for that. We are arriving tomorrow and have been watching the weather/cams for ages.
Looking good for next week but the rain today had me worried.

Capricorne apts in Foret
I've never been before so I dont know the area at all.
I've seen that you are in Les Carroz but until I get the idea of where everything is that doesn't mean much. It LOOKS as if it's straight up Grand Vans then down via Dolimie then Silice then Perce Neige etc all the way to Les Carroz.
For all I know that could be 30 mins or 4 hours.
Anyway if a meet is on then let me know how and where? I will be be with family and a mate. We do cruisy skiing on blue/reds but the kids + wife will kill me if there's a black.

My record of the Les Carroz carpark to the to the telecabine at Flaine is 55m and back in 45m so not a million miles away.
If you're on line next week when we know what the weathers really doing we'll post a meeting point.
As a start how would Thursday suit everyone?

Michael B,
T'other way to avoid Perce Neige is to peel off left from top of samoens on the steep red which runs all the way down into the Carroz area.

stevo_the_saddler,
I used to avoid it but I was pleasantly surprised a couple of weeks ago on my 1st visit to the Perce Neige this year. Its been flattened somehow and the last rise to the tunnel is bypassed totally if heading for the top of Morillon.

P10DW, I have to agree, it was better this time around - more snow? They have also made a new "cut-through" a little earlier in the "polling" to the right which as you say has taken away the tunnell necessity (is the tunnel even there now?)

P10DW, They have also "downgraded" what was a pisted part of a black run in Samoens to a red (which it always should have been) and extended the pisting up the hill a little to make an alternative to the path. The "tweaks" seem to work well in effectively splitting traffic at a busy point, they have also done a little further down too.

Very interesting. It was always a bit of a pain, that bit. I'm out in a week for 10 days' skiing so will look forward to easier returns to Morillon. Haven't they widened the run dropping down into Flaine itself this year too, as it was always a bit of a bottleneck?

snowed pretty much all day today which has undone (or rather covered over) any damage that might have been caused by yesterday very wet snow (aka rain).
I reckon we're talking 4/5 inches since last night at 1150m.

Just back from a long weekend in Les Carroz, we had a fantastic time. Flew to Geneva on Thursday landing at 10, picked up the hire car and got to the resort by 12, and then with the help of our chalet hosts (Stewart and Julie) we were on the slopes by 1 and being given a guided tour of the area with the sun shining and perfect piste conditions! What a great way to start.
Friday was trickier, high winds had closed many of the links so were driven up to the Molliets chair to get on the slopes, rain lower down, and snow by the time we reached the top. We stayed around the Morrillon area for the most of the time, but by the afternoon Sairon chair was shut, as was the Biollaire run towards Carroz, Gron was shut and the Combe still hadn’t officially opened so ended up in Morillon village thinking we’d get a bus back, but the lady in the ticket office told us that wasn’t possible (I think she was wrong). Anyway, Stewart came to the rescue to drive us home and we took shelter in a bar while waiting, life is tough sometimes!
Saturday had us skiing in fresh powder, Sunday we ventured over to Flaine, which was the busiest the slopes had been, but the sun was out and we had a great time. And then we skied up to 1 pm yesterday and packed up to get the 6 pm flight home from Geneva.
Overall we very impressed by Carroz and the surrounding area, lots of good skiing and despite being used to the mega resorts we never got bored.
A special mention to Stewart and Julie at Ski63 who pampered us all week, we had the best service I’ve ever had in a chalet including great food and accommodation and also, be picked up from the pub each day so we didn’t have to walk the 5 minutes up the road in our boots, escorted to the lift of our choice each morning, skied with us to help us get our bearings, and to top it off when we arrived back yesterday to get ready to leave I found our car which had been buried in snow was all clear and ready for us to make a quick getaway.

As the weather is suppose to be great tomorrow (and we're not working) how about a "snowheads afternoon skiing"?
12:00 at "Le Croc Blanc" at the Tete des Saix?
Easy to get to from all the Grand Massif resorts (les Carroz, Flaine, Samoens, Morrillon............ perhaps not Sixt but there again nowhere is easy to get to from SIxt)
Who can make it?
List of names (please add yours);
Marcellus
Mrs Marcellus (aka Ginga...aka Katie)

Hi GM Snowheads,
I'm heading our to Samoens on Sunday for a few days. I'm an ok skier, but my partner in crime will be limited to easy reds and blues. She has an excuse as she has no (real) legs, seriously, she is a double amputee...Although, she does compensate with attitude and volume!
Any chance of some suggestions as to good runs to play on?

to warm up........... Marvell........... a 5km green.... no real flat spots..... then move onto the blues in the Morrillon area..... can't really go far wrong .....

marcellus, Had no Wifi link so couldnt contact you. We had a fantastic week in perfect snow. I've written a report on the Resorts section.
I would have no problems staying in Les Carroz. It looked a good village when we passed on the way up to Flaine.

icebunny, I agree with Marcellus. Avoid the run called "Perce Neige" at all costs! The Morillon runs are probably best for sticking to reds and blues - and Marvel is a great green (more like a blue). Have fun!

|
|
|
|
|
stevo_the_saddler, marcellus, the wife and her mates had a great time in your neck of the woods. They said that Marvel was a superb run. Probably the best bluish run that most had ever skied.

Its also a lovely walk in the summer, there are little nature signs which is fun for the kids to look out for in summer or winter. A must is also lunch at "L'igloo" which is near the top of Marvel - a lovely spot on a sunny day.

Marcellus, I could be tempted, though there's a leaving party for a couple of guys tonight so I may not be in any condition to ski....

Hi Flaine Bods,
I am apoplectic with excitement as we arrive on 14th.....yes I know along with 10 trillion 1/2 termers. Do the snow Gods look on this time favouably? Are the pistes holding up well at the moment. Everyone seem to be a bit quiet. Got a few first-timers in the group want it to be perfect for them. I am returning after 18years so expect to see some changes....if I can remember Flaine!!

Thanks chaps, I'll look forward to trying out your suggestions on Sunday afternoon.
If you see a bundle of blonde hair and attitude hurtling down the slopes, f'ing and blinding, with legs and arms everywhere, she will probably answer to the name of 'Sophia'! Do give her a hand as she truly is an inspiration for anyone who has to overcome a problem.

marcellus, I have only skied it twice. Once was hell - the ice at the bottom was horrendous. But in Jan this year it was great... but I was still offended by the polling at the top. Like you say, not one for regular use.

I was considering heading back to the UK for a bit of fresh powder, but constant snow for the past 12 hours has left the balcony covered. I'm off to play in the trees!

Right,
Now you've organised some freshies I could do with some recommendations for reasonable eateries on the slopes what with the dire Euro etc.

looking for cheapest??
Flaine - bottom right over to the RHS as you look at the bowl.
Les Carroz - The Belle PIste Hotel
Sameons - pizzeria out of the new telecabine and off to the left.

marcellus, We are coming out 7th arch staying at the new place in Flaine. I know they have added extra pistes and a lift to make it ski in ski out. From my experience and as per the quote how is that run now? I was wondering if it would be suitable for a six year old on her 2nd week skiing? I know you follow tourmaline from the top but i would be reluctant to take her on it if it still the same as previous years.
Sadistically enjoyable to watch the less experienced trying to make it home to Flaine after a hard day over the other side of the GM.

Tourmaline has its moments but is ok imo......... not sure about the ski in/out but Danjunk knows better as he's closer to the new lift I think!!
