Christopher, also you have to appreciate that i was in my bed listening to it on the tin roof, it often sounds worse than it is, but my physio told me today it was heavy rain in briancon. Still loads on the streets all over the place. Quite strange i konw!

pjheystacky, didn't get up today, too much maintenance to do!
If your a beginner you might be better off buying a debutant pass for the first day or so. In chantemerle its 14.40 e but you only get serre ratier, and replat (teleski or drag lifts to us english) you also get 2 times up the 2nd level of the eggs in chantemerle.
I've been trying to find something to tell me how much it is in villenueve but i cant find any info. Ask about it before you buy in villenuve.
There are no freebies really but a debutant pass is a good option for the first few days.
If you want any more info drop me a pm with all your questions and i'll try to answere them. remember the . at the end of snowangel or i wont get it!
LOL
i have been told it was very nice up there today, not as heavy as it has been. Riding tomorrow afternoon and all day thurs so will up date after that

Beautiful day, snow conditions above 2000m perfect, below, errr, interesting..... off and on-piste had a icy covering where the rain had frozen overnight. At the higher altitude, still plenty of untracked fluffy powder. The valley is quiet, although the British army are here for their annual championships and I did spot a few squaddies skiing in shirts!

didn't get up today as my dog has just had to have another op.
but the boy did, his report is as follows.......
pistes are in amazing condition, park is nice and not too hard. Pro park is a little hard but still very ridable.
he didn't do any off piste today in training.

Helen Beaumont, good to meet up over there. We had a great time; nippers liked the creche as predicted here and the couple of days of fluff made the trip very worthwhile. Good area, too. Great treeskiing with just a few inches of fresh to fill in the holes.

snowangel., Whats it like having your children in French education?
I imagine your kids are then bilingual.
You have some lucky kids being brought up in that part of the world.

Christopher, was hard for the little one as she has cerebral palsy and learning is a little hard but has it now! there are some words she dont know in english so we have massive improvement! She has had to douple cp (year 1) but it has been worth it. The big one is incredible. He picked it up so quickly, came here with about 3 words of french and now he not only is fluent but he doesn't have an english accent at all! Infact at his parent tacher meeting they didn't know he was english till htey heard him talkking to me.
]
the school system is very good, i have no complaints at all. The help my daughter gets here is far and above what she was getting or would get in the uk. All in all it has been a very satisfactory move and the gift of being bilingual is definatley a plus!
My boy is in a lycee (like a 6th form college doing a bac pro, kind of like a tech college) studying to be a carpenter and joiner and at the same time doing his basi snowboard instructors course. He has already passed level 1 and is intending to shadow his 70 hours this summer in 2 alpes, then do level 2 next november. With any luck he will hvae passed all levels by the time he is 18 and allowed to teach.

easiski, I know, but I have already looked into that one. We can both register under EU law , but are unlikely to be successful in obtaining employment as we aren't French. Discussed this with an English vet in Briancon last week, and how hard it was for her to become accredited in France, and then to get work, even though she speaks excellent French.

Thongy, go up in the Telecabin to the top (worth it for the view) and ski down to the mid station on the Vallons (blue run). A good piste to blow away the cobwebs.

also....what happens if it snows TOO MUCH. do they shut things much due to avalanche risk. got to be a risk with all that snow sitting on an icy base?
|
|
|
|
|
|
gollancz, looks from Monetier webcams like the link across is shut at the moment. They will blast the avalanche prone parts once things settle down, but you should still have loads to ski on, and they will get things going as soon as they possibly can.

gollancz, other half went up. said it was cold and windy with not much up the top open, which is good for tomorrow! the wind has picked up so they (assuming it is still closed) may keep it closed for the day. avalanch risk for today is probably 4/5 you can check it at the ticket office when you go past as we have it on our computers.
