Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

There was about 10cm overnight at 1700 meters. My guess is for around 30-50cm by next Saturday at resort level, mixed with some rain.

Well 50cm on the Restafond, 40cm in the Isere, with some rain, 30cm on the Haute-Savoie, that's what I would call a result. So who didn't book an 85 quid all in holiday?

davidof, just re-read your report on last season. http://pistehors.com/news/ski/comments/retrospective-on-the-2005-2006-ski-season/ . Sounds a bit familiar.

Well, I duly left the computer and trudged off out into the sun and snow rolling eyes to meet up with AlTom and Metalhead132 they were just at the end of their break here, so I was glad I did catch up with them, although I only skied with AlTom.
On the way up I spotted a lot of tracks on the face (although I wouldn't want to risk my own skis) Grande Pente looked the best option . then we headed off up the 4 man chair at the Cretes
and then skied the top of the Combe de Thuit twice in the (rather tracked) powder. Here's the boy:
and
We then followed the path, the route du Thuit back to the Cretes . So I took the same picture as the other day looking down the face from the chairlift - quite a difference: .
From the bottom looking up the Valentin you can't see the rocks, and lots of peeps have skied it as you can see . I couldn't resist a photo of the nicest bar to stop at after skiing down . This is at the very end or entrance to "Le Village, Deux Alpes 1800" - not right down in the town. they do a great plate of proper home-made chips too!! Very Happy Very Happy
The beginners tow was running on the Cretes, and there were several classes out learning there. I also skied down the Champamé after the Bon Cannon, and was surprised to find some powder still there too! It was cold though - my feet were quite frozen after all that powder snow. Now you guys, AlTom is a pretty useful skier, so if you're looking for someone to make up a group one day - especially for off piste ... he was laying down very nice lines on the Cretes on his fats too. Very Happy

Frosty the Snowman, It's not the praise it's the remark! "Looks like the season may well have started " rolling eyes I've been up twice in the last week FOR NO OTHER REASON than to take pics for snowheads and file a report. I do actually have other things to do as well ......... Sad Little Angel

easiski, I did think about a reasoned post highlighting how much we all appreciate your efforts in keeping us right on the spot with conditions in L2A. I then remembered that you are in L2A with the sun and powder and mountains and clean air and good food and nice people and.... , and I am in my office in smog central. Toofy Grin

metalhead132, Me too - I was just so busy, that I could not get up earlier.

maggi, Because I could get the mail merge bit to go upside down, so I had to turn the rest! I think I'm trying to be too clever for my own good.

blizt, thank you.

It was a nice day today, very cold and I stayed behind the PC. Paul McK has arrived but I haven't seen him Little Tiger arriving on Weds ... I heard the snow was really nice again. Apparently AlTom is not the only one to have found the Echines de chevre excellent skiing - Euan raved about it too.

maggi, sorry, just realised what you meant. You're supposed to print it out and fold it over to make the card! I couldn't get it to work the other way round due to the inability of Microsoft Word to deal with upside-down writing.

Cold and grey this morning, a definite possibility for more. Very Happy

I was up teaching Paul McK's friend today on the Cretes and (sadly) the weather improved, the sun came out and all was rosy. We did a little trip round the path from the top of the Grand Cretes and back so I took this pic of the Combe du Thuit showing the top part that I skied with AlTom (slightly left of pic) and the view right down into the bottom of it. It's not open yet, as the bottom is very low and rocky. You could ski it, but it's a long hike out:

After the lesson (the snow on the Cretes is as good as it gets, but there are some contours that aren't normally there) I skied down the Valentin, which is closed. It was, as previously mentioned "interesting". It needs another 2 or 3 nights of the cannons before they could piste it, and I found some grass, some rocks, some really nice natural snow, some really nice artificial snow, some ice, and some frozen cannon snow. it was fun, but I went slowly.

The second image is looking over to the Pied Moutet side, which is currently closed but the Vallée Blanche (the valley in the middle with the shadow) has cannons and looks as though it might be skiable before too long. It all depends on staying as cold as it currently is so the cannons can blast away all night.

it was taken on saturday next to the grand nord, between la toura and the bellecombe chair.

The Grand couloir the same saturday, or the echine on sunday had more (far more, maybe the deep was the double) and better snow....

I went up to the glacier today and it was lovely. The snow is brill and the weather was good. Not over cold, but a bit of a breeze. Skiing down to the Cretes, took the easiest route and only found one stone all the way. I didn't bother to ski the Valentin again. It was OK for one "fun" run, but I wouldn't want to do it more often until we've had another few nights of cannons and a bit of pisting. didn't take the camera I'm afraid today.

Little tiger is arriving tomorrow and many other Snowheads next week - it's going to be a party! Very Happy Very Happy
