And forecast to go a lot lower tonight.
A log burner would be just dandy.
But after 2 days of all heaters on fullblast (4 x 1kW) the place is almost habitable (actually, quite cosy).
Snow forecast tomorrow

Yes, boredsurfin, lorra snow.
The new moving carpet at Arpette was nearly completely buried by midday, but this afternoon a Pisteur was going along knocking off all the snow. Does suggest it will open soon.
After yesterday's big disappointment with new restaurant at top of Montalbert gondola, much better news about resurrected Crystal des Neiges at Plan Bois. It burnt down last seaon. Now rebuilt. And working well. No sign of anything half finished. Attentive well trained staff. And excellent coffee, half the price of yesterday's abomination. One possible future problem: only 2 unisex toilets.
Skiing today was wonderful. Lots of thigh-high untracked fluffy stuff all over the place. Superb.

boredsurfin, your specialist snow measuring equipment may be ruined, but your skis and camera are clearly in full working order. I have hobnobs. We should meet.
Champagny side was a delight today. Lots of untracked fluffy white stuff still around, up to waist when going fast enough. Borseliers in usual excellent form. Stopped for a quick coffee but ended up with a long chatty lunch.
Very quiet today, considering the lovely conditions.

Le Chairlift? On Ecarte (Bergerie) piste? I've skied down that piste lots of times these last few days and never noticed it.
And my glasses are from Specsavers.
Will try and find it today - presumably its part of the new Odalys complex.

Yes @Jonpim, it’s on the uphill corner. On your left as you come down the piste.

At least I'm not alone in failing to find a restaurant. A friend was meant to meet in Carlina, but manage to ski past twice, gave up, and ended up in Chalet des Colosses.

@Jonpim, You should have gone to Boots.
We went in Le Chairlift on Saturday, after visiting the restaurant at the top of the Montalbert gondola, and the difference was quite remarkable.
They had menus, the tables were made, the food and drinks were hot and excellent and even water came out of the sink taps.
I had the homemade croque monsieur with homemade chips and salad washed down with a nice glass of La Clape, highly recommended.

Le Chairlift restaurant on the Ecarte piste is very nice indeed - certainly aimed at a different market to Croque Neige!
We went up the Dou Du Praz drag lift just across the piste from the restaurant - first time ever -had forgotten how brilliant the view is from up there, many years ago it was an airstrip easy to see why.
|
Thanks for the menu scan. As previously discussed, I'm a fan of Croc Neige, so I'll be checking the new place out in late Jan.
Since we stay in PV or PS, Ecarte is the piste that I've skied the most.
Installing the DDP drag lift has made it a lot easier to return to the chalet we use at the top of PS (right on the DDP piste).
We used to have to bomb it down the Ecarte and then pole along the tracks.
The only problem with staying on the DDP side of PS is that the piste down to the Bergerie chair can be very icy on the corners first thing in the morning

Is the Chevrette drag lift over in PV still free ?
What about the Dou Du Praz drag ? Does that one require a ski pass these days ?
I know that I'm still over a month away but I'm looking to see if I can ski on my arrival afternoon without having to add a half-day pass to my card

@ukredsox, Don't be cheap. If you are going to go out skiing get yourself a pass and enjoy yourself! If you buy a Paradiski pass you get it free anyway.
|
|
|
|
|
|
@Layne, I only ever buy a LP pass. My skiing isn't good/quick enough to make the full Paradiski worthwhile.
The LP pass gets me one day for Les Arcs, which is enough for me.

@ukredsox, Thanks for posting the link to the new piste map!
It appears that they are leaving the lovely Inversens as a 'Natur' piste this year (ungroomed) - can anyone on the ground confirm? As a pretty crappy skier I always enjoyed the 'challenge' of a nice long run like Inversens (not the cold slow chair back up mind) but won't be able to enjoy it in the same way if it's no longer groomed!
Conversely, the long red down from the Glacier, Combe, was marked as 'Natur' last year but not so this year.

chopkins13, inversens has been shut all week so can't confirm or refute.
boredsurfin has his hobnobs at last, after a 10 year wait. (Lovely to meet up with you all - hope boredsurfinette manage to meet up with Les Arcs friend).
Whole place still very quiet.
New easy blue piste down from Trieuse restaurant to Bellecote an excellent addition.
Off to Villaroger for some cake in the sun tomorrow, and a chance to check out Les Arcs.

@chopkins13, It looked like it was bashed at the top today with the piste barriered off but the Inversens lift was closed so we didn't pay that much attention to it, will check it out tomorrow.
The Inversens restaurant have refurbished their toilets at long last, they now look very stylish. I understand the ladies toilets now all have toilet seats and there is a decent heater and hand dryer in there as well.

@ukredsox, No need for a lift pass, simply ski down to 1800 and get the bus back up, or ski to centre get the Tele Metro up to Aime 2000 ski all the way down to 1800 ....

Piste question: Pravendue - is it flat as a pancake? Which way does it run? Towards Montalbert or towards La Roche?
|
|
|
|
|
|
It runs towards Montalbert. If I'm thinking of the right run, it's not completely flat but you will need to pole a bit. And near the end there's a short, fairly steep uphill section (20 metres or so) where you will probably need to take your skis off.
We skied it when it was officially closed, on sticky old snow with bare stretches. Probably a mistake in hindsight, but it was very scenic.

I went down that natural half-pipe once and found it almost as bad as dealing with the chaos of the main piste as it drops steeply after the restaurant.
That drop is fine early in the day but later on it can get badly scraped and lead to people lying all over the place. Further down, as you turn left to get to the top of the main pipe, the piste gets very mogully.
I'm not sure what sections the modified piste bypasses but it doesn't surprise me that they thought that some changes were required
