That's brilliant Becstar (he will be receiving plenty of grief!!),and thanks to everyone for the advice on lunchtimes, places etc. Thanks for the heads up the ski schools having lunch together, we never did this in France with the ESF schools so good to know the Austrians like to bond with their schools over lunch and be fun to join in with them

On a separate note, the snow forecast is looking great! Should be plenty over the next few days if it's correct.

Fantastic I can't wait - apres gets equal priority with skiing with me A few of us staying in Pension Norika and the others I am not sure. Handy enough for me I will just take the train from Zurich - longish journey but trains are easy. The rest are flying into Salzburg and arranging a transfer - think there are 8 of them so it make sense.
One week to go......

I'm due to be arriving there saturday.... gulp. Rather worried about my flight out of gatwick at 6am saturday being cancelled with all this snow on its way...

Becstar, Fingers crossed your flight will be fine. Snowing all day here today in Zurich but they cope pretty well here of course with that compared to chaos we would have in Ireland....

Just back from a long weekend.
Snow conditions were generally excellent. The only bad run we had was the long 2b down to Vorderglemm - patches of sheet ice on the final bit taking people out left right and centre. How on earth is that run classed as a blue? I know we had bad conditions but its pretty steep and narrow and crowded in parts.
Loved the long run down to Viehofen.
We met up with our non skier at the Wilderkarkogelhuette which was great - thanks for the recommendation.
Goassstall was brilliant. Best bar later on was the Dutch one in Hinterglemm - Apres Ski Paleis. Mental place but great fun.

So, someone asked for a quick review of the Hotel Konig...
All in all - very pleasantly surprised. I didn't have high hopes of the the place as it was the cheapest of the ones on the Crystal website, but it turned out to be very nice indeed. Location is good - backs onto the very beginner slopes, with a small drag lift taking you up towards the Turm 6er / kohlmaisgipfelbahn, and just below Bauer's Skialm. 5 minutes walk into town / to the Schattberg express if you're going that way.
Rooms were basic but pleasant - TV, shower, Austrian Double, etc.. We had a balcony to the front of the hotel, but the most noise we got was from the river.
Food is good - typical local-ish food served as a buffet from 18:30 to 23:00 (I think). Although it was a buffet, nothing seemed to be left out too long or dried up. For breakfast - I'd probably stick with the cereal, etc. The hot options never looked too appetising.
Boot room is fine, with heated racks - if a little crowded.
My only other tip - if you're going up for the freestyle show at night, take a couple of the saucer sledges and leave them at the top - makes the journey back down a lot quicker and more fun!
Other things to note - night skiing along at Hinterglemm is great - a good size slope, and wonderful if the visibility has been crap all day! Probably not the best to try it if you've had a few at the Goatstall! My favourite run was 39a (via the Goatstall!) - because of the direction it appears to take on the piste map, it gets next to no traffic, so is still in great condition at the end of the day,

Quick question re hotels - do they usually provide hair dryers (staying at the Karawanserai in Hinterglemm)? Big issue for GF!! sent a note to someone on Tripadvisor who posted a review but thought would check with you guys...although suspect you don't worry about such niceties!! Thanks

divekris, As it's a 4 star hotel I'd be amazed if it didn't. They are very standard now. The Glemmtalerhof which I have just returned from did.

Discoveries of the last couple of days:
1. Piste 61 - for some unaccountable reason I've been skiing past it for years without doing it. It's great!
2. The Grabenhuette - towards the bottom of piste 11a on the Zwoelferkogel. Marked on the piste map, but unlikely to be found unless you're looking for it. Off the beaten track and apparently frequented only by those who know about it and its delicious home cooking (we sampled the Tirolergroestl and Kaiserschmarren, but apparently they do a wicked Schweinshaxe for 11 euros pp, which has to be pre-ordered)
3. It helps to open your legs a bit
Worth mentioning also that the gulasch soup at the Hecherhuette continues to impress - undoubtedly the best we have ever sampled.

divekris, at the Karawanserai there is no need for simple hairdryers, as a select team of Alpine Heavy Breathers will descend on your room on demand and lovingly exhale all over your beloved until her hair is silky and moisture free. At the same time, a second team will massage your feet and legs while offering a full waxing service, and all done with discretion and without a single word passing between you. They simply glide in when your brainwaves match the required pattern, satisfy your needs, and glide out again.
Or put another way, with quoted prices ranging from €162 to €285, per person, per night, if there isn't a hairdryer in the room then they'd bloody well better go out and buy one, and preferably something gold-plated and encrusted with Swarovski crystals.
Alternatively, their website at http://www.alpen-karawanserai.at/rooms-rates.html clearly states that there is a hairdryer in every room.

Chasseur, Hansi's is next door but one to Bobby's Pub at the bottom of the main village street (Dorfstrasse), opposite the Hotel Central and just a couple of hundred meters along the main road (Glemmtaler Landesstrasse) from the Hotel Konig.

Bad news, I fractured my shoulder today (top of humerus)
It's not as bad as it sounds, it's only a small fracture and I can still move my arm fairly well. I slipped on sheet ice in a train station multi-storey car park which really should have been gritted!
I have an appointment at the fracture clinic at the QA on Tuesday so will find out more, but at the moment I just have ibuprofen and a light sling and I'm OK.
Thing is, it's only 8 days until Saalbach!
I refuse to cancel my holiday, and I'm debating spending the week on snowblades, just so I can get on the snow.
Few Jaegermeisters and I'll be fine.
Yeah, need to tell the insurance people.
Grrrr.

Bad times. I dont see the reasoning behind the snowblades, please explain.
Best wishes, i know my leg would have to be falling off to stop my trip.
A few years ago i skied with my arm in a sling with a smashed elbow after slipping at the pool in Flaine, not a problem except i had to go without poles.
