Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi Mitch,we are also staying in Balcon 1 in January so would appreciate your findings on it once you get back.
Do you intend using the SkiSet hire shop in the building?
Have a good one.

I've been in Les Coches 15th, 16th and 17th. Snow cover was fine above 1800m, although wearing thin and icy on some runs towards the end of the week. Had to keep an eye out for rogue stones. Snow canons have been on pretty much constantly at high and low levels, some huge piles on the pistes - probably due to be pushed around by the weekend. Off piste still feels like fresh powder despite being almost a week old. Temperature was -16C in Plagne Centre mid-afternoon on the 17th.

The lower section of the blue run down to Les Coches was closed the whole week (although for some reason marked as open on the info-piste map boards). We risked it anyway on Wednesday. Really shouldn't have done - it was fine apart from a small stretch which goes along a road, which turned out to only have about 3cm of soft snow on it. Skis have gone for a service today!!

Not much snow at 1450m, probably about 4 inches away from the artificial snow machines. They'll need a dumping before they open it up properly lower down.

Les Sources and the red down from the glacier were my favourite runs, both in great condition.

Hi those that are out already, did not make it to Mont Albert today for the free wine. Had enough by the time we were at the top of Plagne centre, see you later in the week I hope.

Can you now ski down to the bottom lift without messing up your skis?

snowcrazy, Hi we only made it tp PC as well, my youngest was just too cold.
Access down to Montalbert village is fine now down the main piste. The forest runs are all Piste Fermee, dont know if thats for snow preservation or lack of snow. The cannons have been going all day yesterday and last night so there is now a good base of artificial if nothing else snowHead
Its -15 here this morning so the snow will be in good condition if nothing else.

Just got back from La Plagne, had an AWESOME week. Snow conditions remained good but mostly artificial - they need some more of the real stuff! The resort was empty all week, we had the pistes to ourselves, and the lifts were empty. We were given a refund of something like 150 Euros on our two lift passes because so many runs were closed.

The main thing is how cold it was, I've been on a ski holiday which was so freezing. Went over to Les Arcs yesterday (the snow was better over there actually) and the wind chill at the top of the Aiguille Rouge was minus 35!!!

Anyway I can highly recommend the Hotel Christina in Plagne Centre (Mark Warner), I've had a cracking week staying there.

I am not in the resort yet but have just spoken to someone who is and apparently it is snowing a lot. Maybe this is the reason why the plumber failed to turn up this pm to fix our apparent leak? Good news for the skiers but not so good news for my friends arriving in about an hour with NO water..... Still maybe Boredsurfing, will let them use his facilities? Toofy Grin

omg last night the snow conditions were horrific. The worst we've experienced on a transfer day in 5 years. Nick was stuck at Geneva for 7 hours waiting for people who were diverted to Lyon then rerouted back to Geneva. It basically snowed all the way from Geneva home, cars were sliding and being abandoned everywhere. 2 english cars even stopped in the fast lane on the bridge at Centron because they couldn't get up the slope - how dangerous! It's all ok now though. He eventually got home at 4am and is fully recharged.
I on the other hand have got to try and contact the plumber again. Which plumber are you using Mouth?

Just to let Montalbert crew know that our season does not start today as planned and we cannot travel due to the extreme conditions here in Henley. It is carnage and there is no way we can get an X5 even with chains to the tunnel. We have had to rebook the train and cannot get a train until xmas eve so the vin chaud will need to be kept warm. We have booked first train out on Thursday so all being well (the way this year is panning out I doubt this will be the case but you never know) we should be there in time to see Pere Noel strut his stuff through the village. Hi guys,

Myself and a group of friends are coming out on Sunday for a week.

We've not been to Monatalbert before and was wondering if we will need to book tickets for anywhere for New Years Eve or can we just wander round find a pub and wander in?

brucie_watts, Welcome to SH. My suggestion is you make a reservation when you arrive especially if you want to eat. I think there may be 2 sittings in operation that night. You wont need to book for just drinking in pub or bar like code bar or Tourmente. Restaurants you need to book.

Where are you staying? There will be a few of us SH around

Thanks for the advice. We're staying in L'Arbe - I've yet to work out where it is yet but guess we'll find out on Sunday!

Any recommendation on a restaurant if we go down the food route?

brucie_watts, in that case are you staying with Mountain Heaven? Ref food it really depends on what sort of food you want. Sometimes on NY Eve the restaurants do set menus so you don't get the normal choice, but that can be just as good. Apparently the chef in L'Abreuvoir this year is very good. Skanapia has been sold so new owners and don't know what they are like. Benoit, the previous owner, is now at L'Oursiere so that should be good. If you want a pizza you can't beat Fifty's Legends, although La Luge give it a good go. Haven't eaten in Trappeurs since Sandrine took over so can't comment, but I suspect someone here on SH will know.
Enjoy yourself.

It's been warm all day all the snow on my car has gone during the day and is 4.30pm and +7 with rain forecast, slopes were dreadful coming down from la Plagne, lots of beginners really struggling they have put a sign up at the top of the Montalbert lift advising beginners to take the lift back to the village. What conditions are like tomorrow will very much depend on the rain/sleet/snow situation Sad

I shall be sporting my red gilet then! Bad news... it's raining hard in Longefoy, all our snow is disappearing fast Sad , but it's snowy rain in Montalbert so above should be good snow. wink
My first day out skiing toda and it was good. Les Sources was pretty good as earlier posts suggested. Really quiet slopes for Christmas week. Reminded me why we decamp here every winter.
