solstice21, worth it if you've got wheels. Bit of a pain if you're relying on public transport.

chris. Yeah, I'm going on a package hol so would be on public trans. To be honest if the snow's good enough to open the 250km of piste on offer then I think that'll be more than enough- but as it's something for nothing I was just intrigued.

I second a day in Montgenevre. I have been there for the past 2 years, it has some really good skiing and is a lovely traditional French resort.
Helen Beaumont, I remember seeing the newly built shops at the snow front in the summer. That would be conveniant. Cheers for that.
We're staying in Les Griottes, it is halfway between the town and the slopes.
We're hoping to leave our skis and boots in the lockers over night, has anybody else used them before?

Im staying in the Monetier over christmas and was just wondering if anyone knew of the chalet Simone, and what it was like plus how far from the slopes it is. Also does anyone know if any of the ski hire shops hire out small freestyle skis, roughly 150 cm?

jackamo321, Chalet Simone is about 200m form the slopes, just along the road from my apartment, at the bottom of the road leading from the village to the slopes, couldn't be better. You could try Stawug Sports for freestyle skis, but not sure about the lengths they would have available.

boardbiker, the lift infront of the hotel is l'aravet, there is also a ticket office on the oposite side of the parking. This year you can get a day ticket that is just for chantemerle villeneuve or a 3 hour pass for the whole area. The 3 hours start as you go through the first lift.
boardbiker, one thought, do you all have your own skis and boots, as most of the ski hire shops close at lunchtime.

snowangel., he's going in january though. When we stayed in Villeneuve (Pierre Vacances apartments) we couldn't get any skis when we arrived early. Thimgs must have improved. I'm never in the village at lunchtime very often though, usually up the mountain

Hi again,
I'm thinking of pre-booking my son's skis and boots, I've got (what I think) is a reasonable quote off the internet from Sport Mountain (€54.00). Does anybody know how far away this shop is from the Grand Aigle and also what times they are open until in lat Jan/Early Feb or whether there are any alternative hire shops nearby.
Thanks
ps my hols are too far away, I'm getting impatient LOL!

snowangel., you don't know anything about the Programme Ambassadeur for holiday home owners do you? We were told we didn't qualify for residents rates for our season pass (Fair enough, although we still pay taxes), however, instead they sent us an application form for the programme ambassadeur, but the season pass has arrived, and there is no mention of it.

you have to go to the tourist office, i believe and apply to be on the programme. Then with each rental your renters give your name and it kind of works as a points system.
Is there nothing on the website about it? I know the form i've got is all in french, i can see if i can find something in english.
You wont be able to get locals rates as your not a permanent resident, even though you pay tax's.

actually it might be head office in chantemerle you need to aply
snowangel., I have already completed the application form and returned it to the appropriate office at the same time as the season pass application, but have heard nothing more, and was keen to use the membership to buy some ski passes for my kids, it gets converted to points for next winter.
snowangel., btw no problem with not getting reduced rates, but other resorts seem to offer it . We were told last season that we did qualify for it, and needed a form from the Mairie, but we had already purchased our passes by then. When we enquired again this year, they had changed their minds.

Helen Beaumont, what probably happend was someone at the ticket office said you'd qualilfy without knowing weather you would or not, so when you then asked the mairie you found out you couldn't. You wont be the first to have been misled i'm sure.
there is tons and tons of snow here this morning, i am actually a little worried about how i'm going to get no one son to work!
