Marcellus, where was the exceptional lunch? Love to know as were over at half term. Also to keep it within the thread, was the snow good around the restaurant?

The restaurant was at the top of Morillon, known as "Jonny Won Tons"............ to get to it you have to ski about 1km off piste which was a little crisp...... then there's a cabin with large log fire........ a limited menu and we were pretty much told what we were eating....Boeuf Bourginon (sp?) with either Polenta or Sautee Potatos........ Zig Zag and Maurice had Polenta and I Sauteed potatoes.......... the carafe was a reasonable Mondeuse but for the sake of the good lord avoid the Genepi as it's home made!!
Views are awesome, a lovely sun trap..easy to lose a few hours...... if you want a quick meal don't bother............. total cost for the 3 of us €52 but in the words of a well known visa company.......... the ambiance was priceless.....
After lunch there's about what I would estimate to be a 2km off piste run followed by a walk of about 100m back onto the Combe just above those stupid trees and about 500m to the telecabin.............
(for those that care quick update on that mutt......... been to the vets who did a gallic shrug said "c'est une chien stupide non?" but sent my four legged ex-friend on her way)

marcellus,
Thanks for keeping the snow reports coming!
Wouldn't mind trying Jonny's for lunch on Monday, if we can find it.
Any recommendations for reasonably priced dinner in town?
Best wishes to the mut.

Todays report comes to you after lunch and a few cheeky beers in the Belle Piste.......................... if you want cheap good food then this is a good place to go...€3 for a plate of chips, €8 for great burger and chips and serves a good pint too................ quite a surprise when my tab came to €95........... mind you I seem to have lost 4 hours somewhere!!
so today I was on Bandit B2 165s which were too short but gave a lot of confidence in the mogul fields............. co -weather reportes were; The ginger One, Maurice and Mrs B...
The inversion was sitting at about 600m which meant we were in clear blue skies, the pistes were great, the off piste is a little crusty...slightly warmer, only minus 2 as opposed to minus 6 of previous days....we skied all the way down to the bottom at Morrillon which I wouldn't recommend as the run as quite icy and more of a chore than a pleasure....
(BTW Sasha hasn't been sick for 24hours!!)

Keep any eye out for the 3 scouse lads in their 30's, 1 about 6' 2", 1 about 6' & me a generous 5' 9"; normally all kitted out in black!

marcellus, it's actually visible in your picture - the larger snow covered building on the plateau to the RHS of the pic. A sharp left off Marvel not far from the start of the piste (and NOT towards the piste "Sept Freres")

Getting back to Snow, the venerable snow forecast.com is showing 60cm's from Sunday to Wednesday. Any views given the great snow forecast disappearing snow reputation. Its cheered me up anyhow!

twoodwar, Chamonix Meteo - which has real live people interpreting the signals and models is forecasting snow from Sunday. It tends to give a reasonable indication for the PDS and Gd Mass too.

the seaweed on the balcony has gone crispy..... coupled with the tea leaves in my cup...... coupled with the lunar eclipse of the 2nd moon of jupiter lead me to believe that it will be slightly colder than it was yet warmer than it might be in the future!!

2nd day today, wow, the pistes are still mostly great. Low down is a little patchy, but nothing to stop you skiing anything. Did Casades yesterday and Sixt (not often an opportunity as it isn;t always open). Skied Samoens, Morillon and Les Carroz today - all good. clouded over now, maybe a few cm's??? Is it too much to ask?

stevo_the_saddler, are you with Lucan, as he was going over to Sixt yesterday too!!
Will be giving him a call tomorrow anyhow to arrange a meet up and ski from late morning, if you pm me your number we could make it a real Snowheads bash I might see if Danjunk wants to come along too!!

Morning All.
Arrived back in Liverpool 11.00pm last night after 4 great days skiing.
Conditions are holding up well and as we drove out of the resort at 5.00pm yesterday it was clouding over & starting to snow.
Skied dow. to Sixt on Tuesday, same day as stevo_the_saddler, but we must have missed each other, last few km are a bit ropey but other than that it was fine.
Had a great lunch over there, not sure of the restaurant's name but it's at the top of the two man chair & the base of the little black run.
Went over to the Flaine bowl yesterday, had a look at the racing then played around there for awhile. The run into town was a bit carved up but once you were up top things were fine.
All in all a great four days, I can't reccomend Les Carroz highly enough, great town & great skiing!
PS
danjunk, Were you having lunch in Flaine around 1.15pm yesterday? I was on the phone outside the restaurant when I saw an orange vision putting on his ski's & heading off in a Flaine like direction.
PPS
marcellus, Thanks for the advise Re the bus from Sixt, hope you picked up the "package" from Les Airelles ok?!

Anniepen,
We had one of the three little chalets infront of the hotel and it was fine for what we needed.
There were 3 lads in our party, 2 in 1 twin room & 1 in the double.
There was also a sofabed in the living room. For the 3 of us it was great, you could get away with four but it would be cozy!
Location wise it doesn't get any better, jump on the button first thing & ski to the back door at the end of the day.
Breakfast was OK, we ate in the restaurant one night and the food was sound.
Hope that helps.

Sorry, only just logged on again otherwise I would have PM'd.
Last day tomorrow. What great skiing. We headed to Les Get yesterday (new for me) didn;t realise how close it was. 20 mins in the car and a whole new world to explore! Back to Flaine today which was lovely. The pistes really are still mostly great. Heading to Morillon tomorrow before getting the late flight back. Back again in 3 weeks.... whoppeee

Well it's snowing in Flaine again after sleeting/raining all day. Most of the snow we received over night (c.15cm) at resort level has been cleared by the rain but there's lots more forecasted so fingers crossed.
No idea what its like up top as it looked far too miserable to go out today even with the artifical sunshine of the orange trousers! All the links to other resorts in the Grand Massif have been closed due to vent fort (or have been when i've checked)
Lucan, don't think that was me, I tend to eat packed lunches on chair lifts, and a worrying number of people are wearing orange this year....
Marcellus, how's Carroz? Fancy showing me Johnny Won Tons at some point in the next couple of weeks?

Don't say that, I just came home on Monday!!!!!!
Had a cracking 4 days though playing in the area, lovely and sunny Friday and Saturday, shame about the wind on Sunday (all but the drags closed for most of the day), but thankfully they had opened up a couple fo the chairs in the Flaine bowl for our last few hours on Monday.
Can highly recommend Flaine and the P&V Apartments in Flaine for any groups going out there, and more than enough bars and restaurants for a short break. Anyone going out just remember to double up on any spending money you had in mind.

Still haven't made it to jonny Won Tons, however did have a truly epic day, only marred by being first on the scene to a nasty crash. Nobodys fault, I hasten to add, in fact one of the victims seemed rather to enjoy the enforced break.....
Anyway, the conditions are amazing. Marcellus you missed out, another time!

marcellus, I'm still not sure where Jonny Won Tons is the same place as the Refuge Croix des Sept Frere (which I hiked past in the summer, and thought would make a great off-piste route), Would you be up for showing me when I'm out in late March??

at the moment 15:20 on the 23rd.......... not sure.... would love to say the snow line was at 1100 too......... but it's absolutely pi****g it down at 1150.
Reportedly snow line is at 1800 but I can't confirm that...
