Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I go out with son Tom by train next Wednesday - arriving Thursday morning (staying in La Roche).
Would be honoured to meet up.

Sorry to have missed you - see PM Embarassed

Some of you may recall I was asking about a certain run that was closed for most of last season, well this week it was most certainly open here is the view from about half way down the Les Crozats black.

Skied Crozats on Thursday morning and the snow was very thin with big rocks poking through the middle of the piste. With a bit more covering it would've been a very nice run. Very Happy

Saw the Vache Milka one evening and had a load of free chocolate. Also spotted this famous person on the piste (well my sister in disguise actually!)

Just got back from a week in Les Arcs, staying in Peisey. 8 of us got a taxi to Montchavin last Thursday @ 20 euro per person return. Good value.

La Plagne was just brillant with one small hiccup. The hiccup was Champagny. We were told the red, Mont De La Guerre, was supposed to be good but in my book one of the dullest reds I have ever experienced Polling on a red, you are having a laugh rolling eyes Sad Mad ) made worse by the last green grassy slope being left open and screwing my skis up. Cost us 60 euro to get both ours serviced after. I had to take my skis of and walk down. I did enjoy some of the runs down to half point, kamikaze was great fun but as a whole did not enjoy Champagny.

That hiccup aside the snow when we went last Thursday was amazing above 1500m and boy was it warm. It snowed all day Saturday in Les Arcs and when we were leaving this morning it was obvious by the snow in the Landry that and as low as Albertville that the whole area (Les Arcs/La Plagne) had had a major dump.

Runs wise Les Source has been changed slightly but its still great. Highlight of the day though was Les Inversions followed by Les Crozats off the top of Roche del Mio. I was crying by the end my thighs were burning so hard but just a great, great set of runs.

Now humble pie time mrboredsurfin. God did we miss the Vanoise being open. The 2 areas are so different but just great to ski on the same day. We love Les Arcs but I don't know quite what it is but we La Plagne for us just has that little magic. Won't stop me buying in Les Arcs but if they don't fix the Vanoise I wouldn't be happy Sad

For those heading out you are in for a treat. There is so much snow it is heaven wink Cool

We were down in that area last Tuesday. Mont De La Guerre was shut (& you could see why from the bottom! Just as you described - I'm surprised it was opened two days later...) so we went down Bois. Again, not the nicest of runs, but it wasn't helped by the conditions (bit bald in patches, & quite icy). In softer snow, it would've been quite fun, I suppose, but I wouldn't say it was worth a special journey... Pretty towards the bottom, though, & we did see a cute squirrel Little Angel

Absolutely! Laughing Laughing

To be fair, there are some nice enough runs over the Champagny side, but it's really not that special - I wouldn't recommend it to anyone on a day trip...

Stupid one here but just in case Confused ...

Flying home last week and in Chambery picked up a fre skiing magazine. There were useful tips on lots of ski resorts, one on La Plagne in particular threw me as it is so obvious (I am sure lots do it already but just in case Embarassed )

If you get down to Plagne Bellecote and there is a big queue for the Roche Del Mio bubble take then normally empty Les Blanchettes chair to the left of it, come of that and take the Carella chair and hey presto you are at Roche with I bet no queue. Its so obvious, so annoyingly obvious Mad Blush

thefatcontroller, I have a leaflet called Paradiski - mode d emploi which lists lots of alternatives A lot of them use the drag lift network, many of which are the original lifts of course. Near us there is the Fornelet chairlift, but also the original Forenelet draglift is still in use and often when the ski schools are around can be a lot quicker.
There is a really good shortcut that avoids the Coloses chair and also one for us that avoids PB altogether, I'll post them later when I have a piste map because I can't remember the lift/piste names Very Happy

Here are some lift avoiding shortcuts/alternatives

1) If in Plagne Bellecote the direct way back to Soleil Villages Centre Aime2k 1800 and Montalbert is to use the Colosses chair although fast the odd queue does form.
To the left and slightly forward is the Colosses draglift which whisks you up to the top of the ridge of the main bowl. (Near the top of the Melezes chair) The lift is marked for advanced skiers as it has two dog leg turns on its track wink

2) Alternatively the ski bus which runs until late will take you back to Plagne Centre Very Happy

3) If in Plagne centre and the queue for the Becoin lift is huge. Aime2k can be accessed by going through the shops and up the Telemetro Very Happy

4) Again the bus is also an alternative.

There is also a sort of alternative route to 1) above which involves
Col de Forcle and Leitchoums draglifts but you need a lift map to see the advantages of that one wink

Hi everyone, just posted on the other La Plagne thread, wish you guys could combine them together would be a lot better than having two threads for the same ski area. Sorry for complaining. Anyway, my question, has anyone skied the NF of Bellcote yet this season, I cannot believe I have not put a foot on it yet. After I leave Val Thorens I hope to come visit you guys soon. Anyone up for a quick trip off the back. The snow looks great from the cams I have seen.

But I still think for having a good chat it would be better to have everyone in the same place. When are you out next, we really must try and all meet up again. snowcrazy, I was looking at Bellecote North Face through a telescope from my balcony in Plan Peisey this afternoon. It looked great! There were some new tracks down Le Couloir des Canadiens, and they must have been made yesterday or today. The cover looked excellent, as it is everywhere. Send me a PM when you get back from VT, & I'd love to join you. I'm here for most of the season....
Which reminds me, do you know anyone who has an Arva for sale? I must get my finger out & buy one.

fj, Good to hear from you, I really look forward to doing some of the routes again soon. I will be in touch in a week or so. (Avalanche kit) Try asking at tarantasia office in Vallandry, they sometimes sell the kit from last year. Otherwise bite the bullet and buy it down in bourg from Intersport. You need the whole kit, shovel, probes and Arva if you plan to come on any of our off piste trips when I get back. Speak soon. Cheers
