petemillis, Where is that? Shocked t osay I've never heard of it!
If you're not in entirely the wrong place, Chamonix (as commented elsewhere) definitely had good skiing up Le Tour and on the Grands Montets at the weekend.

I didn't ski on Saturday or Sunday. More precisely, I got dressed on Saturday and headed up to Ardent with MrsPhillipStanton and then realised that I'd forgotten my gloves. I went home to fetch them, went near the fridge, saw a beer...
Anyway, today, again, we didn't ski very far as we spent a good deal of the day either on one leg or hopping around turns...
...but the snow is holding up remarkably well. Probably the biggest problem of the day was our "mistake" of deciding to park in town and take the Super Morzine up. The problem is that Zore is shut and people are being downloaded via the Zore chair - two at a time.

Hi petemillis, the Col du Corbier is looking pretty green at the moment, but head over to Avoriaz, or Pre La Joux in Chatel and you will be fine!!!

Just back last night. Spent all 4 days getting bus to prodain from Morzine and boarding Avoriaz. An old boy (local) said its the worst for 30 years. Avoided Super Morzine because of the zore chair. Some slopes are decent, its just very limited. That is the strange part when your used to having the full circuit to use usually.

So the complete PDS circuit is probably out of the question unless you don't mind sitting in chairs 99% of the day....

Precipitation coming on Thursday and Friday, but with Frezzing levels predicted at 2700/2800 metres I think it safe to say that the lower areas of the PDS will be trashed.

Your only option if you value your skis/board is Avoriaz. Even there ther is slush/ice/fine fresh (artificial) snow on ice and plenty of small rocks adorning the slopes. Thats as good as it gets.
Morzine is bare, as is Le gets.

Thanks Philip Prior. I'm off in April to Avoriaz for the umpteenth time. So, not really concerned about snow conditions just yet - nor would I be really, given I'm off on the last week of the season.
Just curious about the current conditions.
I presume Avoriaz village at least has enough snow to support the horse drawn sleighs.

toiletduckuk - anyone's guess.
SP1R1T - fret not, there's skiing.
Frosty the Snowman - I agree with you that Thursday looks awful - but, frankly, there's little left on the lower slopes to trash...
...however, the weekend is looking much better - zero isotherm down to 750m and snow. GFS is also looking optimistic, with all of the runs indicating both low temperatures and snow next week.
Saturday. 20th. I'm beginning to believe the locals.

Heading down through the goat village I always ate outside at the second one on the right (I think) but reports have always been good on all the restaurants there. In places I don't know I usually eat at the second restaurant working on the basis that everyone stops at the first and if they don't they will go further than the second therefore it will be the least busy. Completely flawed logic I'm sure but at least it means a decision is made. Salads were plentiful and very fresh. Calzone pizza and goats cheese/creme fraiche pizza both avec oeuf were my favourites

I think I've tended to go for the second one on the left.
The Goat Village is a peculiar place. It's not exactly obvious, and unless someone points it out to you, you could miss it on every visit to Avoriaz. It would be easy to write Linderets off as a place good only for a quick crepe and a chocolat chaud.
I quite like the restaurant just above the Super Morzine cable car. It's quite good to head for as a morning coffee stop (given enough snow) - or lunch stop if later.
There are of course some gems elsewhere in the PDS.

shaping up for the unluckiest trip ever. one of my buddies broke his foot so can't come, snow is poor and now our flights have been cancelled. London city pretty much closed because of the wind. Now on the 8.25 am tomorrow so may get a few yards in tomorrow. Off now to sink a few yards of ale.

Thats above Chatel in the Linga area - its called "Hidden Valley" by the "local brits".......can be avalanche prone in there, a ski patroller died several years back

I see it says snow depth at 2002mtrs is only 15cm? I would have thought that it would have received much more snow at that height? Has anyone been upto the top of Chamossiere, if its been open?

Apologies for not having posted for a few days - I've been a tad busy.
Once again, we've had another couple of days of not going very far. We're still doing lots of developmental exercises, so are continuously cycling pistes as we build progressions...
Yesterday, the skiing around Linderats - good snow on the pistes we were using and hard-packed, but not icy, bumps. The run down from Linderats to Ardent, however, was grim - leg-breakingly solid slush on a layer of mud, ice and rock...
Today was, quite frankly, the worst conditions I've ever skied in.
It rained heavily from around 19:00 last night and all through the night. At 1800m the conditions were a mix of velcro-like snow; 20-40 mph winds and a mix of driving rain and ice; flat light and very changable visibility (nothing to 200m at 2000m).
Our group of experienced skiers lasted 3 hours and no-one was prepared to ski lower than the Linderats bowl on the journey home.
Ironically, however, the run down to Linderats was glorious as the pistes were empty and the balance / timing exercises meant that we were ploughing through the slush...
Anyway, it's still raining and it's hard to look forward to tomorrow - even if we are due to cycle a green run for the morning.

Latchigo, whilst there was certainly nothing to recommend in today's conditions, it certainly wasn't raining at the top of Avoriaz.
davejsy - to my knowledge Chamossiere hasn't been open all season - almost certainly because it's very avalanche prone. If you're coming in the near future then you shouldn't consider going off piste - it's not a good place to be at the moment.

PhillipStanton, do you think it is still possible (given average snowfall - no miracles) that there could be enough snow between now and end of March for the PDS circuit to be as doable as it's ever been?
Or, is it going to be something you're now expecting to have to wait until next year for? (at least, to be an enjoyable experience for the average skier)
Just wondering if current conditions now preclude many low lying runs ever opening again this season, i.e. if any heavy snowfall at low altitude would quickly get blown/brushed down to grass anyway...
