Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Guys keep the countdown going for some great skiing Very Happy

Another fantastic day, clear skies, warm weather & empty pistses. The pistes remain in excellent condition due to the low overnight temperatures, allowing the snow cannons to work, and great piste maintenance. Laughing

Another glorious day of bright sunshine, slightly cooler temperatures and firm pistes Very Happy

I have skied around most of Tignes area today and have only encountered good piste skiing Little Angel I understand the bottom of the Sasche run to Les Brevieres is a little rocky and the red run is a little stoney but otherwise everything is good.

The 'off-piste' just to the side of most pistes is well skied out and generally a little softer than the pistes.

A few more people about today but still pretty quiet. When you have an area as vast as the Espace Killy you need a lot of people to make it busy Very Happy

Snow still forecast for later in the week Laughing

Got back from Tignes yesterday, having spent a great week skiing in sunshine all day every day. So I'm happy but the same colour as this --> Embarassed

Whilst the piste maintenance is generally very good there are bare patches appearing on some slopes - usually on the crown of ridges.

As the cover is thin in places there is a fair amount of loose gravel coming up through the snow, I reckon I've put about 3 normal weeks worth of scratches on my ski bases in only a week. Time to hand then over to spyderjon when passing his way for some TLC.

Quite amazing to see how much snow was disappearing off the steep, non-skiable areas (such as cliffs) during the week due to the relatively warm weather and all the sunshine. Strangely nowhere seemed to be wet with melting snow, the stuff just seems to evaporate! Hopefully the colder weather forecast for this week will halt that.

Stewart Woodward- sorry not to have seen you last week on Tuesday, but we were all kn***ered after bombing around all day making the most of the sunshine Very Happy . Lynn and Linda (who is ignoring your advice and keeping the green jacket Smile ) both send you their best regards.

Jon

jmdohanlon, Also arrived back from Tignes on Sunday. Hardly saw a cloud all week! We were using factor 40 suncream to prevent sunburn. Managed to meet up with stewart woodward, a couple of times and pick his brains for info. Hotel/food/location excellent (Mark Warner package). A great weeks skiing when everything taken into account. 190+ euros for a lift pass seems pricey but when you look at the infrastructure (and the investment in water storage and number of snow cannons installed) it doesn't seem quite so bad.
Sadly now back at work but may be able to squeeze in another week before the end of the season snowHead snowHead snowHead

Just having a coffee in KFE in Claret waiting for our connecting bus. Had a great week in Tignes / Val Des conditions perfect for us. First 2 days sunny followed by 3 days snow. The last day more sunshine to compliment the fresh snowfall that hqd hidden the earlyer well tracked off piste conditions.

PS cant believe how long it hqs taken me to type this. The Lappy im using is not QWERTY.

Obviously too much snow for someone with 79 days skiing this season but great for second day skiers. Very Happy So much snow in the Jardin de Enfants we had to request a piste basher. The kids put their skis together but too much snow for them to move Puzzled

Progressed from the Jardin, with morning begineers, to nursey slopes and knee deep powder. So second day skiers can ski powder Very Happy

Skied over to Val D in afternoon on nearly empty pistes, good in trees to La Daille, but a bit wind swept on return to Tignes. No need to ski off piste as loads of powder on piste

Its snowed all day and is still snowing with more forecast for tonight Very Happy Tomorrow should be a great day and might even tempt some 'fair day' skiers out.

BE WARNED : TOMORROWS AVALANCHE RISK WILL BE HIGH : BE SAFE

'THIGH DEEP POWDER'

Yes a headline grabing statement but very true. This morning at the side of the nursery slopes the kids were skiing 'Thigh deep powder' due to the overnight snow.

The weather forecast was spot on, snow this morning, clearing around lunchtime & clear blue skies this afternoon.
The heavy overnight snow and continuing snowfall this morning meant late opening for some lifts and the links to Val D remained closed all day. The pistes which where open though were fantastic. Loads & loads of fresh soft snow Laughing Laughing Laughing

More snow forecast for tomorrow 'when will it all end' Puzzled

For all the doom & gloom merchants out there we have enough snow to last for weeks without another fall Very Happy

The original 'Refuge' in Tignes but thankfully now fully modernised.

Walk out of the main door, cross the road and your are on the piste, maximum 50 meters from lifts and close to all facilities. Very Happy

Bright but overcast first thing this morning so decided to take my day 4 kids for a tour of Tignes Blues !!

Started with the Paquis lift and fresh tracks down piste H to Val Claret where we practiced our technique on longer runs.
Then via Tichot to Grattalu and a nice cruise down the Col de Palet to our hot chocolate stop Very Happy

Back up the Grattalu to ski Lac to the Grand Huit chair. Improved our technique to ski steeper/bumpier slopes as this in places is never a blue run ! The kids improved no end and as usual the most timid on Sunday was the best today.

Returned to Tignes Le Lac via Combe gully which is always entertaining Laughing

A good tour for improving begineers and easily achivable in 3 hrs including a stop for chocolate and a little rest for aching legs Very Happy

It started snowing about 11.00am and has snowed most of the afternoon in Tignes.

Worked in Val D this afternoon on the nursery slopes and it was RAINING in the village. Crying or Very sad

Thankfully returning via the Olympic lift it soon turned back to snow. Very Happy
