Hopefully the week pass isn't an indicator of beer prices being greater than 3V!
Beer prices in STA are not too bad. 7-8 Euros for a large beer in most of the popular bars last year. It's a long time since I've been in 3V but I expect STA is cheaper than there.

Drink in sensible places and pay sensible prices! If you insist on spending time in Base Camp or a champagne bar then money will disappear at a much faster rate

Agreed. We drank in the folie douce once in meribel and it was €11 for 400ml carlsberg plus a euro if you don't return the cup.... Needless to say we never went back (it was a poo-poo atmosphere on top).
Ronnie's was €9 for 500ml kronenberg, but €7 if you had the seasonnairres discount card. Let's hope people like me enough in the key seasonnairres bars to get similar prices and all will be grand!
@Thew2002, dont take too much notice. However the culture is that you add a small amount to the bill. Say the bill for 3 beers comes to €18.60 then perhaps €20 would be OK. Adding 10% just means you are a tourist!
I cant remember anywhere serving 0.4l draught beer last season. The Moose does small bottles of Tegernseer (0.5l draught in the Dorfstuben) if you ask, normal draught is 0.5l. Everywhere else seemed to be the 0.5l Mohren or Stiegel

Random Q's - What is the cheapest/best supermarket in St Anton? It is a luxury that I have a choice this year!
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.
@Thew2002, The one with the most choice is M Preis on the main road at St Jakob also small shop in adjacent garage which is open late, there is a nearby bus stop if you dont have a car.. The Spar is very central (next to Murrmel bar / club) but fairly small & often crowded with folk stocking up on beer & frozen pizzas. Billa also central but not so well known, on main road not far from Tyrol / Valluga bus stop. Prices seem much the same though suspect M Preis is a bit cheaper. M Preis open Sunday mornings, not sure about other two. Also bakers in Nasserein car park open on Sundays.

From my perspective, it must be because they are stupid. And if any of you thought our tipping customs were crazy before Covid, it’s gotten completely off the rails since.

@Thew2002, The 3 little supermarkets are not cheap... after a season there one craves an asda or sainsburies. However with a car, within 25 minutes, one can be in Landeck which has Aldi equivalents under the name of Hofer for a main shop.
So, one for the historians, i found this picture the other day - see link, cannot believe the clarity of it. It depicts the view over St Anton in 1897. At this time the train station had been open just over a decade. Skiing was not really even a thing, the occasional ski tourer may have been heard of but rarely seen. The train did bring some summer tourism but it would be a decade before the owner of the post hotel, at this time newly built, which can be clearly seen in the centre of the photo, would have the idea to encourage guests in winter by employing a ski instructor, the young Hannes.
@hsdee, good one. The original Arlberg pass road is shown; nowadays Alte Arberg Strasse. Is that Haus Angelika, with two chimneys, in the foreground?
On the supermarkets, I use Spar and I find it's stock quite comprehensive. A large cheese counter and selection of cooked meats, veg, wines, spirits, large chill section, deserts and cake, household products and so on.

This will now be a 6 Man High Speed Clovered Chair (new valley & mountain stations) and not a Gondola as previously planned
There is meeting on 17th October.. If no objections the lift will probably be built next summer 2025.
The past financially troubled Venet Ski Area which has new owners (Pletzer Gruppe) has been given the Green Light to renew the Venet Cable Car with a new 10 Man Gondola (new route with intermediate station) which will increase uphill capacity from 300 people to 800-1000 per/hr
On Thursday, the bad weather front of the former hurricane "Kirk" will pass over the Vorarlberg & Tirol.
It will bring dense clouds and, especially in the morning, rain. Temporarily even heavier downpours are to be expected.
It will also be cooler and on the mountains the snow line will drop to almost 2000 m above sea level.
Behind this front, the weather on Friday will still be changeable and with a mix of sunshine and clouds, isolated rain showers are to be expected.
The snow line will even sink below 2000 m above sea level.

@Thew2002, on the shopping front, if you like anything in particular consider bring a stock with you.
I like to drink orange and mango squash at home, but you can't get that here, so I stock up from the UK. Just ran out of my final bottle on Monday from 6 months ago.
Similarly if you like asian food, then i'd recommend bringing spices etc etc with you, because i'm yet to find anywhere near the same levels of stock in shops here vs the UK.

@swskier, Pop into Innsbruck from time to time. All spices are available in the shops around the Hauptbahnhof, as well as other Asian supplies like poppadoms and chapattis. Also the Fruchthof in the industrial estate behind Burton has a good supply of international food and drink, as well as wine, spirits (whisky and gin particularly) and really good, if pricey, fruit and veg. I do bring a bit of stuff over from the UK (tea, biscuits, gravy etc.), but I don't bother with spices and we cook loads of Asian recipes.
Isn't “multivitamin” flavour basically orange and mango? Aldi/Hofer do a tropical fruit flavour too, which is quite nice.

@Scarlet, I know the stuff you mean, i'll try it, but my experience so far here is it's more a syrup, but i'll give it a go, need to go to Hofer tomorrow anyway!
@clarky999, good to know thanks. I knew about the place at Hauptbahnhof, just haven't been in. Certainly in the Zillertal, options are limited at best.
@swskier, There are at least 4 or 5 Asian shops by the HBF, including a couple of larger supermarkets. Sorry, I just meant boxes of juice though. You can drink it neat, but I usually water it down a bit, but not to the syrup levels. That stuffs too sweet for me.

New and tried-and-tested: What holidaymakers can expect in winter 2024/25
Registration opens on 1 December 2024 for the cult race Der weisse Rausch (19 April 2025), which concludes the ski season in the Tyrolean mountain village. Most of the time, the starting places are taken within a very short time.
Piste kilometre collectors dare to take on the new Race the Arlberg app challenge and thus have the chance to win two day ski passes every month.
Culinarily, the traditional Tyrolean cuisine in the huts is just as convincing as the upscale culinary delight up to one of the highest award-winning restaurants in Europe. A new type of refreshment stop is offered by the ARL ONE (formerly Heustadl) directly on the valley run, which the double world champion and Olympic champion in slalom Mario Matt, will run as an upscale après-ski bar in the future.
On the same weekend, St. Anton will once again become the pickleball capital of the European Finals and the venue for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Women in January 2025, when the international women's ski elite will compete in the downhill and super-G. And that's not the last literal highlight.

I plan a skiing week for mid December, waiting for the last moment to decide who will open more pistes in better snow conditions.
The pickleball (never heard about it before, I thought it involved cucumbers and tomatoes in brine) will only detract from hotels' availability that week.

Just planning my trip back to the UK for a few days at Xmas. What options are there for getting from St Anton to Innsbruck airport?
-The train obviously would be ideal, but it may not run at the times needed for early flights. Do Austrian trains tend to run on time, or should I leave a large buffer?
-Are there buses?
-How much would a taxi cost?
Thanks!
You know it makes sense.

@Thew2002, arlberg express for shared bus transfers.
If you need to be early at the airport, arrive late evening and book a simple central hotel in Zurich, close to the train station.
Check Hotel Marta for instance

@Thew2002, The trains are generally reliable it is is unusual if they are late. There are also busses to Landeck (the trains are only about every 2 hours from St Anton but at least hourly from Landeck). Shuttle bus from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof to the airport. Will all be covered on a single ticket on VTT app. I would assume a taxi will cost more than the plane ticket though @stanton should know

A (stupid) question regarding the Saver Day Pass from Zurich airport, I plan to buy it 2 months in advance on sbb.ch and decide in the last moment if Geneva, Landeck or St. Anton will be my final destination.
It's valid till 5 AM the next day in GA travelcard area but in case I'm going to Austria, is it still covered?
Does it matter if I book now a ticket to GVA or to Landeck?

First direct train (Weekends) leaves St Anton at approx 07:02 takes 1 hr 10mins
Bus from Innsbruck Hbf to Airport now cost €3:00 must be bought from the machine (by the bus stop) or app ..You cannot buy the ticket from the bus driver anymore ... Ticket must be validated with the punch machine on the bus.. They do control this route frequently and fine are HIGH !!
If your going to be doing a lot of Train trips in Austria & part of the route to Zurich.. I would recommend you get an ÖBB Vorteilscard Card 66 (costs €66)
On Tuesday, the influence of high pressure will finally take over and the sun will shine for longer. In terms of temperature, a clear upward trend ...
The warming is accompanied by a few veil clouds in higher air layers.
On Wednesday and Thursday we will be between a low over Western Europe and a high pressure area in the east in a very mild to warm southwesterly current.
Saharan dust and harmless cloud fields ensure that the visibility conditions are by no means optimal.
By Friday, the southern foehn will subside and the first disturbances will come from the west. It is remans unclear what this will bring .
I make it 7 weeks until the season starts. I am getting extremely excited now!

@maidstone98, The cheapest option is the train, shuttle from the airport to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof then direct to St Anton (station in middle of the village) plenty of local taxis from there (though many hotels will collect you). Question on another thread about transfers to Ischgl (pretty much the same trip as to St Anton) and that was coming in at around €350 - €400 for two return. There dont appear to be the same shared transfer services popular at Geneva assume there is simply not the demand.

@maidstone98, A Lot of UK folks come on here asking the same question and also on other threads..
My guess is most these UK folks come on a budget airline EasyJet flight to Innsbruck for € 50 and then seem has mountains of cash to spend €200-400 on a transfer Taxi...
Best, Cheapest, Quickest & Safest way to transfer is by Train. even in 1st Class !!
Warning about Transfer Chauffeurs/Drivers
Transfer taxis are rarely driven by Austrian Locals.
Imported drivers who drive like maniacs while smoking and using their phones is the normal.
