I would like to concur with OP there are some hard red pistes in La Plange that is why I stay off them. Thornyhill, is just a big early hours teaze and is best after 0100

If you will pardon the observation, this doesn't seem like a very categorical method of cross referencing someone's identity  Esp. not around here where all sorts high jinks arise in terms of people's percieved ability, over-egged enthusiasm, and the odd pure and honest wind-up.
Neither should anyone with any common sense take anyone's advice without checking on the 'pedigree' of the person giving it. I have to watch what I say as some people perceive a high post count as witness to my possible ski experience - nothing could be further from the truth, but in all things it has to be caveat emptor. When all is said and done this is the internet - a public forum, the media is rife with stories where people claim to be who they are not, SH's is just another public forum and people must accept the fact that the same can happen here.
In reality, because of fairly the close knit community that regularly post and the bashes, (although there are loads on here who have still not met the folks we talk to online), many SH's do indeed know each other. On the whole this is good for the advice that is freely handed out, as, generally ,it is fairly well policed and poor advice given by numpties is generally spotted and jumped upon. It is also worth remembering that it is perfectly possible to be able to study and advise someone on the theory of doing something without necessarily being able to do it yourself.
FWIW I am sure you won't be alone in finding skiers out of their depth on slope that is too much for them this season. We are all supposed to be able to stop in the distance that we can see is clear when we are driving, it wouldn't hurt all skiers to apply the same theory IMV.

So the OP went round a corner saw a couple of people snowploughing, tried to pass and caught a tip in a catch fence.
If they were ploughing, I'd infer this wasn't a steep section and if it was narrow and had a catch fence then it was probably basically a road.
OP thought that some of the advice on here was suspect.
