miranda, The rolling eyes just show how little you understand of the cultural implications.
It is considered a great compliment to be invited to a family wedding here in Bavaria. The same goes for birthdays and other family occasions. Vonn had always been treated as part of the Riesch family and was included as such. Apparently she did not even respond to the invitation, either to say thank you but no or to accept. It is seen over here as extremely discourteous. After her somewhat odd behaviour at the Garmisch World Cup, which most people put down to her concussion and the odd pronouncements of her then husband implying a conspiracy against her, people here were prepared to forgive and forget. But the deliberate snub given to the Riesch family lost her many, many fans over here.

Samerberg Sue, you're absolutely right. I have never thought I had the faintest idea about Bavarian culture, be it birthdays, weddings or any other family occasion. I just don't think an athlete's personal relationship with a family, whether they did or did not respond to a personal invitation, and what is going on their marital relationship is of any relevance. I do accept, however, that this is possibly the sort of stuff professional ski fans care about.

Samerberg Sue,With respect, No one knows what goes on behind closed doors between friends and family. What we hear from the media can often be misleading. Wouldn't you agree?
I always thought it a bit strange when Vonns coach quoted...
"I hope for both of them that they find some way to deal with each other without making it nasty," Hoedlmoser said. "How they want to approach it I'm not sure, but I guess we'll see. But I'm completely staying out of it.
"That's something between the two of them — or between the four of them," the coach added, referring to the skiers' husbands.
The bit about the husbands seemed odd...so who knows.
I personally agree with miranda, As a race fan, what Vonn does in her supposed private life doesn't interest me. I take with a pinch of salt what i read about personal issues written by the media.
