Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

thefatcontroller, Piccadilly, I wanted to get out to the nursery slopes to take a couple of photos of the piste but I got quickly bored of wading through thigh-deep snow so just ended up with a few photos around my apartment. You can see some more if you are interested on Facebook

Any idea when I click your link to FB I nearly always get ---

allanm, not quite sure why you can't see those photos. That link takes you to a my Facebook album of photos around Les Arcs in December, and the privacy permission is set to "Public" so anyone should be able to see it. I tend to set all my skiing photos to public, other kinds of photos to "Friends Only", so I'm not sure why you get that error message when you follow the link. As far as I understand it, public photo albums can be viewed by anyone, regardless of whether you have a Facebook account or not.

Good morning and welcome to the '2012 - 2013 WINTER season in Les Arcs'. Very Happy

The snow has arrived, the lifts, well a few anyway, are now open so let the winter begin!! Toofy Grin

I will try and send out the daily updates of snow conditions and what's on each morning at breakfast time 'ish around 8am before I hit the slopes myself. Maybe some days when the details are delayed in arriving from the 'security de piste' it will not be possible, but I will do my best. Smile

When I return in the evening I will post what it was like out on the hill and anything else worth mentioning. So watch this space and follow how the season progresses this time round. snowHead

If you want to see the photos you will need to go over to my 'Les Arcs Winter' facebook page, but I will try to post a few here sometimes!

Enjoy!!

Poor visibility above 2500m, and moderate (occasionally heavy) snow with relatively mild temperatures were on the menu this morning. Avy risk was high (4 declining to 3) so I stuck mostly to the pistes. Links to Arc 2000 opened mid-miring, but I mostly stayed around the trees of Vallandry and Arc 1800. Yesterday's rain has made lower pistes quite hard underneath the fresh snow of last night and today, but generally everything is in excellent condition.

andytb, The evening Les Arcs Mountain Meal at the Arpette is very good and you can book it direct with the restaurant rather than through a tour op which normally will cost you more. Just ski down to there at the start of the week for a drink and make the booking or have lunch. You do need to check it is ok for your other half to ski down the Blue run or that they will give her a ride on the snowmobile to get down when it is dark. Have fun if you do go! Very Happy

Loads of snow overnight and it's still snowing heavily this morning. It was also quite windy at resort level yesterday evening, although it seems to be calm this morning. There are 30-40cm drifts on the road outside my apartment, and the snowplough man is 30 minutes late so clearly having a busy day already!

Still - out in Jan and if the Gods smile on me and I get to leave the current gig, I may get to do a late run at the end of the season. I was going to try and get cheeky mini personal PSB over Xmas but I've just been told my employers are making special arrangements so that I can work Christmas Eve (which I had planned to take off in any event)! Today was fun but often challenging. Visibility wasn't the best:

Although lower down it was much better:

There was boot deep fresh snow from overnight, and much deeper in many places:

I even got a sort of a face shot on the little slope back to my apartment:

It's snowed almost non-stop for four days, so cars have disappeared:

It's due to clear up soon, but as I type it's snowing cats and dogs wink
