Does the bottom of that bloke's snowboard say 'I bomb Pam'?
I mean, I know she talks about Les Saisies a bit too much, but terrorism isn't the answer surely.

Roga should be the first of many sets for the winter, got an area pass so its not going to be all gorm. Same general recording of slope life I've been doing in the Pennines but up here. Probably less piste bashers though but I feel snow cannon thing coming on.

Roga been doing some work up here and now sticking around for as much of the winter as I can. Glen Coe is closest and so will probably end up as most visited. I think it might actually take less time to get to Yad Moss than Lecht but looking forward to getting round all the areas as much as possible to make the most of out of the winter.

There will be some rain at lower levels in the next few days.
Sunday could be a vintage bluey.
Cairngorm traintrack looked partly snowcovered on the webcam earlier.

Weather does not look so great the next few days. Wind may interfere with the lifts fri, sat or sun. Trying to decide which day is best. Friday appears to be the best day but still a bit on the blowy side. Certainly won't be the still bluebird conditions of last Sunday.

Hmmm......Snow-forecast.com is indicating winds of up to 55kph over the Scottish areas at the weekend - so may not be looking too clever. Cairngorm is stormbound today due to drifting on th eaccess road.
Given the northerly winds, which area would be likely (if any) to fare best this weekend? Cairngorm??
Still can't find anything to indicate whether Nevis is/isn't planning on opening .

for Cairngorm, there are XC tracks already cut in the forest this year around Glenmore & Loch Morlich. nice alternative if its stormy higher up. If using them, then throw a few quid into Glenmore shop as Bill the proprieter cuts them under his own steam in his own peastie beastie - top man

It's always like that here, Ricklovesthepowder didn't you know? We just drape the "heather, rocks, and patchy snow" matting over it when the tourists come. ( we get it cheap from all the MOD clearance sales from closing bases)

I'm longing for the day that the resorts can afford to replace all those Tbars. I still dislike them, even after skiing for many years. We saw one snap at Cairngorm in May. 2 grown men lying on the floor wondering what on earth had happened was a funny sight.

I'm afraid noone has yet developed anything quite as resilient or cost effective as the Tbar that would work in this environment They are however very sociable

Moffatross: Drove through Moffat for the first time in the summer, en route from Dalbeattie to Glentress (mountain biking road trip). Very impressive hills & scenery - & a lot closer than the Highlands for us. For future reference, could you suggest a moderate (ie not extreme) ski touring route for a possible future trip? If so, I'll get the relevant OS map(s). Anything would be appreciated, even a route of a couple of hours or so. Cheers!

mountainaddict, if Glentress ever get their mountain biking chairlift, we should steal them a couple of snow cannons from Cairngorm.
Near to Moffat, I've skinned from the closest road approaches (Megget stone and Annan water respectively) to the summits of both Broad Law and Hart Fell and these aspects have grassy slopes, so they don't need much snow for a slide back down. A wee bit further up the M74, the Lowther Hills are easily car accessible too (head for Wanlockhead) where because the village is high up (1,500 feet or so), you can get decent snow cover right from the road on days that most other places are green. On Lowther Hill with its distinctive golf ball radar installation, there're options in most directions including a traverse of a series of tops eastward, a ski over the chicanes of the BAA owned, private tarmac road or perhaps west down to the Dalveen Pass. Or you could just get end up with the poo viz days I've had both times I've tried.
If you see that the Pentlands near Edinburgh get an Easterly snow blasting ...

... then just drop everything and go ... http://www.haggistrap.co.uk/photostrs/pentlandHR.shtml
And I reckon my most memorable local day was with fellow SH HighRustler, skiing from the A701 at the Devil's Beeftub just north of Moffat, across the tops to Hart Fell and out through the Blackhope Glen to the A708. It's a route I've walked several times so it was surreal to be skiing it. It also takes you quite a long way from any road and has some 'technical bits' so feels a bit more committing.
I drove east along the A66 on Saturday & saw that the Cross Fell plateau and that part of the N. Pennines had a decent cover but on the return journey saw that, like the Moffat Hills, their snow cover had taken a warm air beating on Sunday. I saw good reports from Pennine tours a few seasons ago and I'm really hoping for the opportunities to explore a lot more this season. There are some ready made ideas from right across the south of Scotland on this website ... http://www.johnbiggar.com/galloway-ski-touring.asp

Cheers moffatross!
Those Pentland pics in particular are amazing! Funnily enough, Mrs MA and I were staying in a Peebles hotel around that time in Dec 2010, with the plan being mountain biking at Glentress and skiing at Glenshee....
However, the biking was off due to the amount of snow, the roads to Glenshee (and everywhere else) were gridlocked - so we spent two fantastic powder days at Hillend. Fresh tracks galore and a brilliant experience .
