With a group off piste on Grand Montets today - guides had to clear path in to restaurant picnic room using shovels. Lead guide reminisced that last time had to do this was 1999.
In trees was gorgeous today and as off piste novice in my group found to his cost -the powder was nice and deep. He tried to do a quick covert loo stop and failed miserably. For some unknown reason he got off his skis and promptly sank past his waist. He then spent the next 10 minutes trying to swim out. Pic in URL below.
Conditions overcast but lovely in morning - sun broke through for a while in afternoon - easily accessible areas looking tracked out. Been snowing on and off again - but seems like clear cold night at the moment and still 4/5 Avy risk.

ww166no, please don't send me any more texts, I now officially refuse to talk to you as you are having the benefit of this snow and I am not.
Now that i officially refuse to talk to you, I shall stop answering texts and email, therefore you will probably notice no difference whatsoever.

rockyrobin, ww166no, and sd2010, thanks for the pics, you guys rock!
It all looks fabulous. I believe there is more snowfall due over the next few days, so everything should be even more lovely by the time I get there on Thursday.
sd2010, that path from the loo shot is brilliant
ww166no, try not to track out the forest before I get there, damnit!

Zero-G, Too late I'm afraid unless you're partial to a bit of a walk (def worth it) . . . still, there's a lot more forecast for tomorrow and Weds, so you and midgetbiker, may well get the last laugh - I'm off home on Sat and not back for 2 whole weeks.

ww166no, I will have to head over to SZK's for some custom skins so I can try out the secret stash (I still have the directions from last season). Not sure I'm going to be able to sleep much tonight. Instead, I'll be envisioning myself skiing in all that lovely snow.

Zero-G, Good luck with that, I think it's unlikely that Bochard will be open for a day or two yet - but it was really only a secret stash for when times are hard (most of last season), not for when there's a glut! You'll be spoiled for choice. . .

I'm up for a ski with the caveat that I may not be up for it - this is my first trip post-spinal surgery, so won't know until I've done a few days to see how far I can push it off-piste. Will keep you posted. PM your mobi number if you want to meet up on the mountain.

Zero-G, it snowed all day today, just getting heavier. Got overtaken on Cham highstreet by someone on skis last night . . not the first time, but it's been a while since you might do it on your own skis. Awesome day at GM today, Carpark 20% full, at least half unparkable due to deep snow, Bochard was open, Retour Pendant too. Viz poor at the top, but quickly better. Deep, untracked powder (and more than a few rocks) and Faceshots for all on the middle route of Pendant. The lesser skied section of the Magic Forest was awesome, first time I've wished for more than 102 underfoot.

Lucky you - we're leaving as you arrive - promises to be good tomorrow and Fri, but should be awesome next week. Will be doing my best to trash as much as I can over the next couple of days! Enjoy, there should be a bit left!

Heard that side of the mountain being blasted all day. Perhaps tomorrow Brevent will be a go-er with more open even. Saying that, its snowing outside still!

Wow, that sounds amazing! Have just finished packing - have both the Pilgrims and the Directors in the bag, so I think I have all bases covered.

BobinCH, was at GM again today so can't comment on anywhere else, but it had definitely deteriorated a little today. A thin crust had formed esp in Pendant to about 2/3 of the way down, not a prob to break through, but defo not as fab as yesterday. Lower down no crust, but a little wetter and heavier, again not as good as yesterday, but still fun in the trees. Wx not quite as predicted so viz was poor at the top of Bochard, but fine lower down. A few more people here, but not exactly crowded, still a little untracked to be found. Herse not opened yet so may well be worth the traverse, haven't tried that myself since the middle of last week. Lavancher perhaps? Forecast is for sun tomorrow.

Back at work today after being in Chamonix last week (17th-24th), the snow was so much fun, had a brilliant week! Shame there were only a few pistes open but hey ho, weather was pretty bad, didn't stop snowing till Thursday! Snow in Argentiere village was at least 1.5m deep, brilliant times!
Can't wait to get back on the white stuff in March.... Have fun all of you heading out there!

Renry, was in Les Houches on xmas day and it was beautiful. Snow was lovely on and off, just a great day. The week before I got lost skinning up and that wasn't such a nice day

I was in Brevent / Flegere yesterday and pretty much all was open, with great snow throughout. The run all the way down to the town was open, with the odd small rock to look out for.....but that run isn't a great deal of fun and was very busy with lots of skiers having mini tumbles, so would rather of got the lift down in truth.
