bythesea, After scanning all the TO on a daily bases, and having to almost get to paying for the holiday to find out the "real" price, we found www.directski.com to be far cheaper when cross matched with the same hotels and resorts. The drawback is they have a limited list of destinations. The booking system is simple, all done online and everything arrived by email exactly when it was meant to. Not always a rep in the resort, but phone contact is given, sometimes they share offices with other TOs, but we never use the Reps anyway!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Been watching the lifts crank up in Obertauern today, and the stage for opening night concert being built. The snow has fallen right on cue, it's as reliable as a swiss watch. Love this time of the year
Kitzsteinhorn yesterday.... very cold at -15 at summit and -9 at base.
Snow was excellent. The whole area was skiable but some lifts were still closed.
It wasn't very busy, no real queing and all in all a good days worth!
Today Mrs.Flange has gone up to Obertauern. I don't envy her today as it is -9 and as it is snowy hard in my garden at 800m with white-out conditions, I can only imagine she will only be able to see a few meters ahead!
I'm glad my new snow chains arrived yesterday (thanks Sue) cos she may need them later!
All in all Ski Amadé region is getting a pasting today!
sharon1953, are you in Obertauern?

Mrs.Flange reported as guessed... Obertauern was a wee bit closd in yesterday! The runs were good but vis very poor.
Reiteralm today was amazing and one of the best days skiing I have had (certainly this season The sun was out, the temps were low, the pistes were /are in fantastic shape. The new gondola and piste is not yet in service and there is still no skiing to valley.
Zauchensee tomorrow....
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Sollophonic, in Ischgl today. Sunny and pleasantly mild. Runs to resort look in good condition. Getting colder this evening. Fairly quiet in town by Ischgl standards. Wenesday night temperatures are set to drop very low... Then Thursday onwards looks like snow will be arriving. Possibly a fair amount!

Pistes in quite lovely condition this morning. Lovely grippy corduroy. Off piste bit crusty and hard pack, soft where wind deposits have left snow. Several large natural avalanches visible on slopes from warm up. Wind picking up. Cloud and sun. Winter is riding in. Geil!

Snow all over this morning. About 5cm+. Much colder and with the wind bitter in places. But lovely snow out off the wind!

some good falls forecast over the next few days...
Snow is light and dry, buy consistent. Winds have been picking up and it is cold. Wind and light snow means lots of transportation. Leeward slopes getting loaded. Some lovely velvety stuff to ski if you can find it (Alp Trida)

Snowfall increasing this evening. Wind increasing too. Going to be bitterly cold. Real issue likely to be whether lifts can open with high wind. Still snow will be good. And there is always beer!

As if the falling snow was not exciting enough President Sarkozy's son will be DJ'ing at Pascha in Ischgl on Sunday evening!!

Strong winds throughout Ski Amadé over the last 2 days.
The good news is that it has certainly brough thte wind with it in 'dumping proportions'!
Very cold, bleak and greay outside but with loads of snow!.... glad that the wife is doing the walk to Kindergarten this morning
So far, at least in Ischgl a lot of the snow had been very light, the wind strong, and the result that settling has been mixed. So any ridges are bare. The gullies deep. Great powder to be found, but a hike here and a traverse there and the good times are happening... Raw though. Very raw. Still another great day!

Fabulous snow all day down here and more forecast for the next week according to the detailed mountain forecast this evening. Looks like it will be flat light though most of the time. Avalanche warning at 3/4 - could go higher if the drifting continues.
Ö3 road reports said chains were essential for access to Zauchensee and Obertauern, which means they must have had a good top up in the Salzburger area and Lungau. Lots of the mountain passes are now definitely closed until the end of April or even May. The link between Fieberbrunn and Saalfelden (one of the routes into Saalbach-Hinterglemm was only passable with snow chains today.
I suppose it looks like I will finally have to break open the box I've carried every winter since 2004 and be prepared to use mine at long last.
