Lets hope so. I was hoping for an epic dump this weekend as predicted to get everything ship shape for next weekend!
Forecast for mid to end of next week show a decent fall to refresh everything nicely!
Due to leave on the night train from St Pancras on Friday

Conditions are looking pretty good for the next week, a decent dump scheduled for towards the end of the week.....main concern now is Geneva airport being open to get there at the weekend!!

Having seen the post re Chambery, the best piece of advice I received was to be wary! Chambery does not have Instrument Landing Systems, so at the slightest whiff of snow or fog, it is ferme (no not a farm!) Geneva for me and my kids every tiime.

We were delayed by approx 1 hr at Geneva on Sunday, much more fortunate than those booked on earlier flights that morning but infinitely more fortunate than our friends who were due to fly out of Chambery on Saturday morning and eventually got home via Turin on Monday morning!
Geneva for me everytime...

hows the itineries and off piste stashes doing? Leaving Friday for mottaret and having to decide whether to take the 127mm waisted reverse cambers, 110mm waisted all mountain twin or the 63mm waisted factory slalom ski..... Wish 2 pairs of skis in a bag was still an option.

What do you mean? I always put two pairs in my double ski bag which is about the size of bags the snowboarders use.
Are the airlines checking contents?

And me, with Jet2 I can carry 20Kg worth of skis.
I'm off tomorrow, so am fully packed apart from the toothbrush. In a Dakine Concourse I can get a pair of relativly light all mountain 187's, a pair of heavy slalom skis and a set of poles. They weigh 20.3Kg in total.
In the other bag are my boots and clothes. That has an allowance of 22Kg and weighs 19Kg.

Very quiet today, with almost all runs open. Conditions on piste are reasonable, though some runs are a little scratchy. Off piste is quite light, but Avi risk is 3, and in many places there is still no base, so scraping rocks even in shin-deep powder. Heavy snow expected tomorrow morning.

Snow arrived during the night, down to about 600m. Turned to rain lower down, but snowing now above around 1100m.

About 30cm of snow last night and this morning, stopping now. Great snow conditions, but poor visibility. Got first tracks on the Eterlou red this morning, unpisted, with powder to just below the knee. That one run could see me through a long summer

Poor vis most of the day - the odd hole here or there with a bit of blue sky showing through... - bit tricky off piste in places as below the new stuff there is an old crust (quite thin) sitting above another layer of softness... Sunshine due for next 2 days so should be great!

Just back from 9 days in Courchevel 1850.
Onpiste is white from top to bottom across the 3 Valleys. However, many trails had started to brown-up and ice-up below roughly 1800m on Sat 16 Jan. Good snowfall on Sun 17 Jan (~20cm) covered them up well, but a few days of sun will soon melt it away. Courchevel valley has the best onpiste snow right now.
Offpiste is about average above roughly 2500m. Grand Couloir and Meribel Couloir in good condition up top.
From 2500m to 1000m, offpiste coverage is well below average. Lots of rocks and grass still near the surfaces. Best low-level pow is currently found near St Martin.
Overall, conditions are good(ish), but not great.
One comment on prices -- they seem to have shot up everywhere this year. Even downmarket Val Thorens is commonly charging 8 to 10 Euros for a halfliter of lager.

Can anyone comment on prices this year in the Courchevel valley - any impact of reduced VAT on food or the call for lower prices?

Agreed. And it's fine right down to Le Praz at 1300. Not sure why Jockeys is closed from half way down - nothing more sinister than the odd twig showing through. I thought the snow there was better than it was around St Martin.
I think you're probably right about the prices having gone up. They certainly haven't gone down.

Another good day today - clouded over as the day progressed with light snow flurries in the pm - now snowing down below 850m.
Good soft snow still to be found in the Courchevel Couloirs, Rocher de L'Ombre and far side of Mottaret.
Pistes definitely starting to firm up, but cover generally very good nonetheless.
10-20cm due tonight - 20 would be just right!!

Haven't been able to post due to internet issues, but we are now sorted in chalet.
great day today, all over the 3v. Clouds closed in about 2pm, but meant light dusting at that stage on the upper slopes, ginving fresh snow on well pisted runs. Excellent.
Now ( 11pm) snowing heavily in La tania -hoping for powder ( no friends) day tomorrow. Ye hahhh!!
( as you may be able to tell, been enjoying the hospitality...)

I was in VT last week, great skiing and even did my first black (to be honest there were blues that were harder but it's a mental barrier)
As for the prices in VT, we were self catering so I can't comment on food, although we ate out one night and my dinner (veal with veg and potatos) was €25 with 2 large beers
I drank in 4 different bars during the week and the most i paid for a large beer was €5.50, still too much

offpisteskiing, agree re amount far less than looked likely. Nevertheless an excellent day with conditions off Roc Merlet really very fine. The on piste skiing also nicely freshened and a great day for all levels of skier.
Any idea why they are letting the little trees grow through on Jockeys? its almost like they are thinking of abandoning the run

JimW, I think the snow depth at that altitude is somewhat less than in previous seasons, and on several runs in the 3V, the flora is still showing. Normally by now it would be covered (Bosses in Meribel is another example)

Just back from a great week based in La Tania - with intermittent wi-fi but excellent skiing.
Friday headed over to La Masse, and Lac de Loup. Although heavily tracked, snow in good enough condition for an superb run down. As a diabetic veteran with 35 years of sticking needle in my legs, we have invented a new take on life: "extreme injecting" - lunch on a rock above the bowl, blue skies, nothing but snow as far as you can see... and an insulin pen and bare leg. It just don't get any better.
Skied to le Praz with no trouble during the week, very little ice and a nice covering of fresh stuff. Snow to the valley floor still evident on the way home (sob).
offpisteskiing, nice photos, and not unusual this week. Empty pistes, empty lifts, and powder to be found almost everywhere. It was a great rejoinder to those who sneer at the "French Mega-resorts" Actually guys, it was pretty damn good, (despite the prices), so I for one am quite happy if you don't want to come along and join in the fun.
Having said all that did get a bit of a slab slip off to the side of Pyramides, also Friday, so maybe not always as nice as it looks - be safe out there folks.
Back to Les Arcs at Easter: now counting the days...
edit for speeling

Snow has been building gradually over the three valleys today, and around 20-30cm is expected overnight. Temperatures are quite cold, conditions reasonable both on-piste and off. I gotta feeling ... tomorrow's gonna be a good good day

OK, to expand a little.... I can't remember skiing in better conditions, anywhere, in the last 20 years. On piste - velvet, inch-deep carpets of snow, untracked, and nobody around. Laid down some tracks, went back and eight-ed them, then went back again. Off-piste, light, fluffy powder, everywhere. First tracks all day long. Often knee-deep, powder flying over the head, no crowds, no queueing. Perfect blue sky, sunshine all day, mountains blanketed in fresh snow in every direction, as far as you could see.....
.... it was quite a nice day !
