Yes. If you want to fly "anywhere". The majority of aviation charge are made (to the airline) in $'s and €'s eg. fuel, leasebacks, etc, so the low value of the £ will affect other forms of air travel, not just ski holidays
IMO the pound is really worth about 1.4 Euros (not taking into consideration the wheeze of just printing more when you're skint) and the sooner it gets back to where it should be the safer your holidays (summer and winter) and other flights will be
Edited as it was pointed out (correctly) that my 1st post attempt was gibberish

Well it's a good thing someone knows the ineffable truth. Not taking into consideration pesky reality intruding on the show.

Nah 1:1 is good enough for me. makes my salary look better and good for UK exports.
More importantly, why in this age of a single european currency do i still have a wallet full of 3 currencies?

Wayne, Right that makes considerably more sense than the previous post. However you're still ignoring rayscoops, question following my previous post which was Would parity with the Euro be such a bad thing? ski holidays excluded
Basically what you said in your post is that travel will cost more cause most international travel mechanisms are paid for in hard currencies specifically dollars & to a lesser extent euros. This will compound the cost increase of your holidays on top of the currency conversion issues.
That particular statement is entirely at odds with what Rayscoops was asking which is would it be a good thing for the UK? Not will my holidays cost more.

How is inflation in the UK? When I look at any imported goods... TVs, Computers etc they seem to be following the Euro these days. That is a TV I can buy for 500 euros in France will be 450 quid, whereas it would have been 350 quid a couple of years ago. Or am I missing something?

davidof, both GBP and Eurozone are technically in deflation I think (Eurozone slightly more maybe). Saying that, IT gear and TVs etc. are a continual deflationary market anyway, so is probably not the best thing to compare.

Yes, you are missing looking in sensible places for the prices.
Seriously, general inflation in the UK has been under 3% for quite a few years now. And taking your specific example, the prices of TV sets are still generally falling. What you will get for £450 now will be a considerably better TV than you would have got for £450 2-3 years ago. It certainly won't be anything like the one you would have got for £350 then (the equivalent of which would now probably be around the £300 mark).

We seem to get away lightly - 260 in all. We are one of eight apartments in what MGM laughingly call a "chalet". Our place is a lot smaller though. I think our inside is 40 sq metres, the terrace makes it 45. Boredsurfing, does altitude come into the equation on taxe d'habitation? We are 1550m. Our taxe d'habitation is only a little less than the fonciere - considerably more if you include the TV licence.

pam w, our foncieres is more expensive than yours for a smaller space, although we do also have a small garden, which probably increases it a bit. We benefited from a reduction for the first three years, but that has now ended. I wonder if the age of the property matters? Perhaps newer ones pay a higher rate, as they were valued more recently.

We are in the vieux village which apparently does make a difference. But I thought mainly in the Commune section.

thefatcontroller, As previously stated while the BoE continues it's policy of quantitive easing all rallies will be just that temporary rallies. So unless comething majorly shifts in the UK economy in the next 2-4 months don't expect any movement on where the pound is now except downwards.
Also whilst it may actually cost you all more to go on holidays a reduced value pound is actually a good thing for the UK as an exporting nation trying to regain it's stead at the moment.

Good thing then that the BoE announced today that they have called an end to quantitative easing.

The dollar hit a two-week high against the euro after deteriorating consumer confidence increased the appeal of the dollar as a safe haven for investors. The pound also strengthened against the euro to as much as 90.30 pence per euro yesterday evening. – (Additional reporting: Bloomberg/Reuters)

Year-on-year lending falls for first time in euro zone
Loans to the private sector fell 0.3 per cent year-on-year, the European Central Bank (ECB) said yesterday. This was the first fall since data was first collected in 1991

My applications are being handed in at the office in the morning. At this rate it might be a better exchange rate than last years.

How long to hang on is the question. Our season ticket application needs to be with SATA in ADH by 16th November, may give it another week!?
