Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Back from Carinthia, the region that DB referred. 200cm fresh snow in some places, and still snowing.
Newspapers claim the biggest snowfall in 80 years.

DB, Thanks for the links, I used to live in Klagenfurt, during the 98/99 season which was very snowy. Looking at those pics brings back lots of memories and makes me wish I was still there. Nassfeld was one of my favourite Saturday trips, and my local 'Heimatsberg' was Gerlitzen, which was a great place to learn to ski!

Thanks again
D

Spent many a Newyears Eve in the Pacheiner on the top of the Gerlitzen before the kids came along.

Parts of southern Austria received their biggest snowfall for 80 years last week. Over 100cm in 48 hrs (but still some way to go before they beat the 160cm in 24 hrs seen in Colorado in 1913):

So if Kitz stays as it is, you think it would be 100% open and good off piste opportunities?... and they'll actually be snow on the Hahnenkamm...?

Heading up there half term. Can't wait!

skiking4, hmmm well half term is a long time away so I think the only thing that is certain is that is probably won't stay as it is until then. There might be more snow, or less, or a similar amount, or more then less, or less then more!

However, there is plenty of skiing in Kitz whatever happens, whether you get good off-piste will rather depend on whether there is fresh snow before you go.

That's what I like to hear. We're getting in tomorrow night, and my father arrives tonight (assuming he can negotiate the roads from the Munich airport). I've been fixed to the webcams all day, and it looks great.

Thanks again for the info you sent me, Kersh. We've got our Christmas dinner reservations sorted at Jägerhäusl with the help of our landlady.

the next 7 days fir Schladming is 50 odd cm
however Zauchensee nearby is 5cm
and Flachau a valley or so away on the other side from Zauchensee is also 50 odd cm

...so I would take all of the forecasts with a large dose of salt!

Kersh, late March! The agony!

Well our 'proper' trip is the end of Feb, but H and I are thinking of sneaking out on Jan 12th for a few days. The sight of all that snow and no chance of skiing it was making me ill, so I thought in the interests of my health, we should pop out in Jan!

Have a great trip when you do go!

ckb90, my 'man on the ground' in Zell said there is plenty of snow right down to the valley. All the lifts/runs might not yet be open as it is the quiet season until tomorrow basically, but there is no shortage of snow. The airstrip at Zell has snow on the runway today and yesterday, and that gets a lot of sun and is the first area to melt, so if that's snowy, it's a very good sign!
