A gentleman with attitude, seemingly, as can be seen in an article thrown up by Googling him. It strikes me that being black, gay, Jewish, pick your favourite minority, has got nothing to do with skiing. But maybe I'm missing something here. (And, for the record, I belong to an ethnic minority.)

Anyway, I don't think you quite understand. No black person likes to see the 'N' word under any circumstances. Just the mere sight of the word is like somebody sticking a dagger in their heart and saying you are less than human. Please think about it before you use it in such a flippant manner.

Indeed, a form of ghettoisation. But it's one thing for me to say (as I fiercely do!) that I wouldn't want to belong to any such 'club', and quite another to advocate their proscription. Getting together with like-minded people (to put it no more strongly than that) is natural and is also a basic human right, imv. The trick is to achieve integration despite that, a difficult balancing act to be sure. When I was a child, I saw a stark example of that balance working and also not working. My parents had a lot of Russian friends in London and all their parties were terrifically polyglot affairs, the Russians were friendly and close, but they had other friends from all sorts of nations, races and creeds. My mother's family in Paris, however, were totally inward-looking, you never saw any of them socialise except with other Russians. One lot integrated, the other didn't, but both were Russian communities. Go figure.
Sorry, end of late night ramble. These things are not straightforward, are they?

Stephen, I am sorry if you were offended, but they were not my words, and the film they were quoted from shows the Black man as the educated and sophisticated party, and whitey as the bigotted fool. Once again I would point out my surprise, that of all the post in this thread, you think mine the most offensive. I shall edit out the offending word. Some while ago we had an interesting debate on the useage of such wording. I belive Chris Rock who is black uses it quite alot? So do a large number of rap artists and various Famous and normal people of African origin? Maybe when it is not being used among the minority it will stop being used among others, It would like me telling people they cant call me ordhan when I use the name myself

When I was in Kirkwood and esp with friends I made for the Bay area it was mostly black people who used the 'N', and several young black guys who address their white friends in the morning with "alright n-------".
