has anyone got any good recommended taxi firms in the area.
i want a taxi some time next week from Briancon - Montgenevre one way at about 10 oclock. As we fancy a night and a meal out in Briancon. we'll get the oulx- briancon bus there.
anyone got any idea how much that is going to cost?

Christopher, very cold at the moment, i'm told its lovely up there and very very quiet. Infact that is an understatement its freeeeeeeezing!!! snowcannons in resort on most of the day!!!! a bit of warmth wouldn't go a miss, even if for only a day or two!
the job is wicked, i'm loving it. French is ok, sometimes i feel out of my depth but coping, thanks for asking!
taxi number 0033684992603 absolutely no idea how much but the number is written down as taxi nice, so they should be good!!!!
Not sure where your planning to eat but can i recomewnd le K'azar in the old town. Half way down le gargoile inthe old town. Moroccan food, excelent quality, takes a while to be served but food always good.
If not there i\d recomend l'alpen on rue central or le Jasmine in the old town. Le jasmin is a bit expensive but good chinese ()french style food)
L'alpen is good mountain food at a reasonable price. however the moroccan is very well priced for excellent food!
easiski, sometimes i feel over my head, hate it when they laugh at my bad french and accent (even though its not that english!) but i do love it and they're all so nice.
Have only done 3 english and always feel bad after offering them to speak english when they at least try to speak french, but its easier for me too! By the end of this i should be much much better at french, which is great!

Helen Beaumont, she is trying to sell the place, but i honestly hope she doesn't manage it as its a great place, but it does take a while to be served. They are all so lovely as well, they know us so well the cheff even comes out for a drink and a chat!
my fav restaurant in resort!

snowangel., then we will have to go now. Agenterre was only complaining recently about the demise of their local North African places.

ahhh france has a sprinkling of good arabic cuisine. found one in the pyrenees in the summer and it was georgous. I'll have walked past it before, that seems to be the one we'll go to.
In the summer ive been to the restaurant opposite the church in a small sqaure in the old town. It is also next to the tourist office. I remeber a gourgous tartiflette in the summer in that rustique place.
We've also been to the restaurant in the new town near the guisaine bridge. I think the road is called rue centrale. It is third wooden looking building on the right. It had a nicen raclette if i remeber rightly. That may be L'Alpen.
is that taxi firm in Briancon?
Owh i cant wait!

Quick update. The pistes are in fantastic condition all over the mountain. Off piste, it's getting difficult to find any fresh powder but what powder there is, is still surprisingly soft and fluffy. Light snow is falling on the mountain (high up) now but not much is forecast.

23rd dec
well i finally made it back up the hill this afternoon. and wow! the pistes are in amazing condition, best i think i've ever ridden here. I spent 2 hours this afternoon after work riding fresh pow after fresh pow, was quite amazed there was as much as there was! Villeneuve looked very tracked but chantemerle was awesome!
Not riding now till christmas day after i finish work, assuming my ankle holds up!

in total contrast to Helen Beaumont, the pistes are getting hard now, the cass de beuof was like an ice rink by the time i got there. There were more people on the mountain than i've seen in 4 years! but i didn't finish work till 2.30 and it was more like 3 when i got up the mountain.
Still had a great run down to my christmas dinner at the grott where all the local english meet every year for much merryment!
Absolutely knackered from working, not riding now till thurs as i'm just to exhusted!
Roll on January! no work and lots of sleep then maybe a bit of boarding too!

snowangel., You must board in a totally different resort to me then. No ice on any of the pistes we were on. We didn't get over to Chantemerle though, and didn't ski the Casse du Beouf.

Helen Beaumont, i think the timing is quite important. it was such a beautiful day yesterday but by the time i got up there the sun had gone down the light was flat and it was getting icy. Compared to the other day the pistes are much much harder but its still awesome compared to how its been over christmas for the last 4 years!
Yes the different parts of the resort are different. The amount of 3 hour tickets for chantemerle and villeneuve i sold yesterday was massive so its hardly surprising it was so busy. I doubt they are selling many just monetier passes as its now such a small area its hardly worth it.
2 more days of work this week, it will have been 7 days straight, till my day off and thank god i get 2 in a row! I am shattered

Snow conditions still pretty good today- high up still fluffy and off piste towards the Tabuc good fun. not all skiied out yet. Lower slopes were harder packed but only ice I found was in a glass.- not surprising since temp. hasn't risen above -3. Easier slopes were more crowded esp. PM, but were hardly congested- didn't have to queue at lifts which is alwys a good indicator. Some steeper pistes are starting to have the inevitable bare board scrape patches but the snows holding up pretty well for this early in the season. Lets hope for new snow soon.
My benchmark for good snow conditions may not be as high as for someone who lives here permanently-there must be snowier, quieter days, but I've skiied a lot worse, and by my rule of thumb if you stop half way down and can count eight or less people on the whole slope it isn't busy

Yet another fantastic day, although there are a couple of worn patches on a couple of the slopes, but nothing major. A fast ski over and back today, drink in PiMai at bottom of Cucumelle, jumped the Cretes drag queues by using the Pre du Bois drag ( forgotten how steep it is!!!), then across to Serre Ratier. Quick lunch stop till the queues died down, and over to Grand Alp, down the Echaillon (although boys did some off-piste) to Clot Gauthier, then eventually back across to Monetier via La Balme. Me legs is knackered!!! Much busier today, but still quiet across in Monetier, skied back down Rochamout virtually on our own.

Did everyone else think it was cold all day today? Up early to ski corduroy; snow was frigid and unyielding. Weak sun did little to soften her disposition; she had to be ridden hard and fast. Long lunch in warm crowded bar sort of day- so that's what we did.

Helen Beaumont, was lovely up there today, busy but not to busy and the only icy piste was the luc, but that is kuind of normal!
had a really great afternoon with my best mate who i haven't seen in 2 years, since we rode on my wedding day together so it was a nice and easy slow ride around but i loved it!
think i've worked out a way to ride with no pain in the ankle which is quite a reliefe!
Probably gonna ride in monetier tomorrow.l

I was about to ask, are you forecast any snow anytime soon??
...And does anyone know if the boardercross circuit and park are going to be open prior to our arrival on the 13th Jan..??
|
|
|
|
|
|
boardstupid, they are both open already. I believe the pipe has also been groomed but i'm not 100% certain and wasn't at work today (thank god) to know what was and wasn't open. I went past the park and the boardercross, just the small park at the mo but there is a park at the champs de mars in briancon.

The Italians are going home, the mountain is mellow; I feel her snow white body respond beneath me as I caress every mound and hollow, and plunge into her forest glades. She likes it. Did everyone else enjoy their skiing today?

Are there a lot of Italians in Serre Che?
In Montgenevre where it is pratically on the border, they own 65% of the accomodation. I thought Serre Che was a very French resort.
