Yoda, I think they must have a battery because they 'bleep' when you go through. Another little 'gamble feature' - will it work next year ????

Just got back - only way the device would work was to wave it outside the car window - nowhere inside the car would work. But it's no hassle and I was really pleased that I bought one.
Traffic back today from Villaroger (BSM) was very light - 9 hrs with two stops.
Pictures to follow..........................

why didn't I get one of these years ago

Why didn't we? I got mine because of a link to another site someone posted on sH that gave lots of details onTelepeage

I've just put my order in for one of these for my summer trip to Gers.
Looking forward to sailing past the queue at Sintes (North of Bordeaux)

Nick L, As a one-off hardly worthwhile
( Thinks to himslef if this catches on there will be bloody Brits waving their bitz around at every telepeage in France)!!

Agenterre, I quite agree, we must start putting people off or there might be a queue at the telepaege lane
|
|
|
|
|
|
boredsurfin, Absolutely ... telepeage is shoite ... they also charge you for trips you haven't made ... they don't work in RHD cars ..... and ... and ... you have to be able to speak French fluently to buy one ... and ... and .... people break car windows to get at them .... and ,,,, and ???

You know it makes sense.

Agenterre, I agree, and those windscreens, they just don't work on them do they.

UPDATE
We travelled down through France and back at the end of last month, with roofbox. All telepeage toll barriers except the final one at Calais were tall enough for a Nissan X-trail and roofbox to pass through. I think we may have 'just' made the Calais one too, but there wasn't a queue so we didn't risk it. All the Lyon area ones have swinging chains, and the car passed easily underneath.

Mine arrived this morning Where's the best place to put it? I've not got round to translating the paperwork with it yet!

geri, ours is stuck on the windscreen, just behind the rearview mirror. No obstruction of the view that way, and all the heat-reflective windscreens have a clear section there. It unclips from it's holder if you have problems.

geri, The Sanef paperwork comes handily translated into English....
Helen Beaumont, Interesting about the roofbox....we're about to set off with a loaded roofrack, the measurements say we'll fit but if something like your roofbox goes through then we'll have no problems at all!

Does anyone know how long the batteries can be expected to last? Par example I first used mine for the EoSB in April, will it still be fine this Winter?

Yoda, I got mine 2 Christmas' ago and it has done 20+ trips and is still going strong. (It is never left in the car) and when in use just sits on the dashboard as we go through the barrier's. (We dont attach it to the windscreen.)

Yoda, I've just changed one of ours after 4 1/2 - 6 years daily usage . I have no idea whether that it is 'time' or 'useage' dependent. One other is the same age but hasn't packed up ...yet.
With 'Escota' changeing is a bit of a PITA ( as you only find out when it doesn't work!) and you have to go to one of their offices with a passport to change it ( foc though) . Please note .... my account is with Escota , I have 3 units and they are all registered on one account so this may effect your own position.

homphomp, on an x-trail too. You will definitely be OK further south, but the Calais area ones are fixed height barriers, so a bit more tricky. Yoda, ours works fine after a year you shouldn't have any trouble.

Helen Beaumont, At Calais could you use the truck lane and hand the box to the cashier?

You can take any telepeage/attended lane and do that ... what I did when mine got the collywobbles. They can also check its 'strength' ...
|
|
|

|

boredsurfin, yes, or any of the normal lanes. We had one glitch when we left the autoroute at Chalons,to stop for the night. The truck lane had a 't' sign, but it didn't work for us, so we had to reverse out, hand the badge to the cashier, and she scanned it for us. No traffic about though, so not a problem. TBH, we didn;t use the badge last Christmas becasue we were worried about the barriers, but it isn't really a problem. The worst places are Lyon area, and you can go under the chains no problem at all.

Just signed up, took just a few minutes. It's only 1.50 a month (for months you use it) if you do an online bill, and the first four months are free if you sign up before 31 August. I noted that only credit cards are acceptable - so having a French bank account, or not, is irrelevant. The tariff "Balade" for occasional users also included free breakdown insurance on the motorway, repair of vehicle if you hit a "lost object" on the motorway and cover against loss/fraudulent use of the unit. We actually never seem to hit any queues more than a few cars long (because I don't travel at busy times) but hubby will be glad that I don't have to wake him up in the middle of the night!

It has meant I can chill out in the back seat on the last couple of trips. Kids often go to sleep, so if one sits in the front for a while it doesn't matter.

I've been thinking about getting one, my mind was made up when we were returning a couple of weeks ago and joined the wrong queue (as usual) at Rheims. Wondering why our line was moving at half the speed of all the others it finally dawned that a rogue queue with no gap to pass through had somehow formed next to ours and everyone was filtering/barging their way across, including an English guy behind us who locked wing mirrors with an old boy in a battered Peugeot. Only ever going to be one winner and some choice Anglo-French insults as the two drivers eyeballed each other, hilarious!.
