Yes, but I think there's a wider problem with that inscription. It should have been run past an editor.
It says "he fell on sleep ... while climbing alone", which is obviously a dangerous thing to do, but "on sleep" is a strange form of "asleep".

Should it have read STEEP? as that could explain the fall.

Comedy Goldsmith, the alternative is that he fell (1) asleep and therefore (2) off the mountain. In the yet further alternative, m'lud, "on sleep" could be a typo and it should have read "on sheep" - he tripped on a sheep and fell off the mountain.

On the rocks, all very good points.
Do you play croquet? Also, I think boredsurfing is looking to address the cross-cultural issues/divides that arise from what you're saying. In fact, I could see his table really harmonising the nation's skiers. Are you in?

Comedy Goldsmith, I don't quite understand - are you referring to a table with rows and columns as in a spreadsheet; or a table at the SCGB summer party? Maybe a link would help?

On the rocks, I think he's looking to get a snowHeads table and may need interesting people to sit at it.
That's assuming there are tables.

It's about the SCGB summer party at the Hurlingham Club in June. Will try to restore the original text. CG]

Well I have - several years ago at Stansted. A party of braying, ignorant and self-righteous, self-important people. Their staggering rudeness was breath-taking.
I don't think CG comes close to that description, though to be fair I haven't met him.

Don't know about that, but the ones I met at their end-of-rep-training do (which I blatantly gatecrashed) a few seasons ago were all hilariously jolly hockey sticks. I didn't think people like that actually existed outside trashy Aga-saga novels.

True. Awful place - quite shockingly bad. Also, it's not very near the piste - are you sure there was a Leader involved?

Comedy Goldsmith, so what we are fundamentally getting at is that a thread where you really are the only person still interested is more popular than the entire SCGB forum? Well, that is a sad state of affairs for them, but I seriously doubt they care very much - they are probably far too happy with the regular dross of the membership paying for a priviledged few to go off and have their nice ski holidays and socialising paid for. And if their members can't work that out, how likely do we think that it will be that they will read a thread of this length about their own forum?
You are rapidly reaching the point where viewing and posting on their forum is actually more likely because of this thread. If left alone it would just quietly die of its own accord, and the leadership could return to the state of assuming that an active online presence isn't really required any more, because SH is filling the gap just nicely.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Comedy Goldsmith, have you worked out how much it costs per member per post? I think that would be incredibly useful to know if we are to continue to waste our lives in this fashion.

No I'm not. You were interested enough to type out that whole post. This thread's had 66,000 hits, and you're one of the hitters.
How many hitters have there been? 1000? 10,000?

I think that's the point. I've only been in SCGB a couple of years or so but there does seem to have been a big change for the better in active membership over recent years, with the brayers fading away, or at least gravitating to resorts I/we are not attracted to

Bode Swiller, that's really, really naughty. The poor old staff at the SCGB will now be bombarded with requests relating to the costs of running their forum ... In fact, the first 7,214 requests have already probably been sent since you made your post less than 90 minutes ago.

Whatever ...
... while these inclement weather conditions continue should we turn our thoughts to summer cocktails on the terrace of the Hurlingham, mixing socially (while the barman mixes even more socially), putting names to faces, swaying across the croquet lawn ... celebrating the 110th birthday of the Skeeb?

You did that yesterday (and probably on many other days too). In fact, you give us more repeats than the BBC (hmm - something else to take into account when considering your use of forum stats?).

I should alert you (this sort of comment comes up periodically) that the penalty for such remarks ... from anonymous sources ... is a prolonged and painful 'outing' exercise. We got PJ Ski in the end (it took a while) and he has been despatched to a Siberian ski resort.

No you didn't. I'm afraid someone's been cooking up IP addresses to suit your agenda. I'm not who you claim I am, which is why I don't bother denying any of your claims.
You really do need to go and get yourself diagnosed and treated, although there may not be a treatment for your kind of (personality) disorder.
You're a nasty, scheming, vindictive piece of work, you really are.

Your problem is you don't play by normal debating rules. You don't have an open mind only an agenda and that makes you fair game, whether you like it or not.
