Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

This has obviously become a word-association thread. So, and continuing the theme of Arnold Lunn trivia (while gently steering this family thread away from CG's attempt to introduce swingers), I have always been entranced by a memorial tablet in a local church, both for the poetry of the language used and also for the snapshot of British pre-WW1 alpine history which it provides:

Yes, but I think there's a wider problem with that inscription. It should have been run past an editor.

It says "he fell on sleep ... while climbing alone", which is obviously a dangerous thing to do, but "on sleep" is a strange form of "asleep".

Comedy Goldsmith, the alternative is that he fell (1) asleep and therefore (2) off the mountain. In the yet further alternative, m'lud, "on sleep" could be a typo and it should have read "on sheep" - he tripped on a sheep and fell off the mountain.

Just dropping into this thread to mention how much I enjoy skiing Very Happy

I enjoy skiing on Snowheads' Bashes Very Happy
I enjoy skiing on SCGB fresh tracks holidays Very Happy
I enjoying skiing backcountry and touring un-guided with my mates Very Happy
I enjoy skiing with other SCGB members when meeting up with an SCGB leader Very Happy when my mates aren't around.

Apart from those on the Snowhead's bashes none of the people I ski with has heard of Snowheads Puzzled
None of the SCGB members I have skied with use the SCGB forum - maybe they have better things to do wink

None of the people I ski with have any interest in the history of the SCGB (or skiing in general for thatg matter); Live/ski for the day! Toofy Grin

I've yet to meet anyone in SCGB who comes close to the stereotype so boringly postulated on this thread. However I suspect CG may come closest NehNeh

I'm bemused by the longevity of this thread, and why so many snowHead take such an interest/concern/contempt in/of a club they are not a member of.

But hey ho; live and let live eh? Little Angel

Back to the skiing: I wonder if Y Garn (Snowdonia) wil be in this weekend? Toofy Grin

Nope. Sorry. Sedbergh is in Cumbria but was in Yorkshire until quite recently. The Howgills used to be the western edge of the West Riding with the Lune as the border withWestmoreland (no Cumbria then). Carlingil the Northern border also with Westmoreland.

Don't know about that, but the ones I met at their end-of-rep-training do (which I blatantly gatecrashed) a few seasons ago were all hilariously jolly hockey sticks. I didn't think people like that actually existed outside trashy Aga-saga novels. Laughing

Comedy Goldsmith, so what we are fundamentally getting at is that a thread where you really are the only person still interested is more popular than the entire SCGB forum? Well, that is a sad state of affairs for them, but I seriously doubt they care very much - they are probably far too happy with the regular dross of the membership paying for a priviledged few to go off and have their nice ski holidays and socialising paid for. And if their members can't work that out, how likely do we think that it will be that they will read a thread of this length about their own forum?

You are rapidly reaching the point where viewing and posting on their forum is actually more likely because of this thread. If left alone it would just quietly die of its own accord, and the leadership could return to the state of assuming that an active online presence isn't really required any more, because SH is filling the gap just nicely.

Hmm - tricky one. Let's see if we can spot the difference.

On this thread you have either initiated or provoked the vast majority of the posts (including the sheep and the Arnold Lunn trivia contest). But you are not allowed to post in the other place.

In those circumstances, I am not sure that there is any scientifically robust conclusion to be drawn from the comparison you are seeking to make. Except that you are here and not there.

I think that's the point. I've only been in SCGB a couple of years or so but there does seem to have been a big change for the better in active membership over recent years, with the brayers fading away, or at least gravitating to resorts I/we are not attracted to

No you didn't. I'm afraid someone's been cooking up IP addresses to suit your agenda. I'm not who you claim I am, which is why I don't bother denying any of your claims.

You really do need to go and get yourself diagnosed and treated, although there may not be a treatment for your kind of (personality) disorder.

You're a nasty, scheming, vindictive piece of work, you really are.

Your problem is you don't play by normal debating rules. You don't have an open mind only an agenda and that makes you fair game, whether you like it or not.
