Bernex is well worth a day out. Skiing in winter and a climb up the Dent d'Oche in summer. Plenty of bouquetin up there.

Started snowing lightly in Avoriaz about 20 mins ago. Looks good for the end of the week.

Appears to be downgrades on this mornings models for todays snowfall - unfortunately - maybe 10cm max 1200m if we are lucky and 20cm at 1800m.

Woken at 6am by heavy rain in Morzine centre. Now turned to sleety/fine snow. Trees above Pleney have a white dusting.

Snowing in Chatel at 1200m - but have an underwhelmed feeling about this snowfall so far - it will have to pep up quite a bit for us to see anything like the expected amounts (which is still possible) - but 06Z GFS has downgraded amounts too!

Was throwing it down in Ardent this morning, but still not enough to top up several warm days and crowds. Visibility was awful at the top of the mountain. Still should be enough for a nice morning tomorrow if you get first lift. Chatel Snow, definitely with you - doesn't feel like a whole lot, and now only very light sleet in Morzine...

Just to take the mickey - the latest Euro4 model has just come out in last 5 mins and has now upgraded amounts a bit again - including some snowfall tomorrow. Time to head up the mountain to see whats fallen higher up.

Quite a lot has fallen, but not quite enough to fill in the tracks in the hard, chopped stuff from the tracks in last week's fresh stuff. Bit blizzardy higher up and it's still falling. Original forecast I saw was for it to ease off after about 2, but I see no sign of it easing.
The mountain was very quiet this morning, hopefully it stays so for the rest of the day. I intend being up at the crack of sparrow-fart tomorrow to see what's what.

Damp squid at 1200m with still only a thin wet covering as it has been too mild all day (currently 3C)
12cm measured at 1800m on Barbossine - maybe a bit more up the valley at PLJ.
Still snowing, but radar suggests main band clearing with showers possible behind.
A disappointing snowfall and the overnight downgrading in amounts proved correct, despite some yo yoing of models today.
Chance of a light snowfall later tomorrow.

Beautiful morning in Chatel - no further overnight snow (apart from a few flakes) - light snowfall possible this evening. No where near a foot of snow in this area (a foot is 30cm) - looks like 15cm was just about the max depth recorded locally, perhaps nearer to 20cm on the highest areas eg above Avoriaz (2000m and above)
Looks like being a fine weekend, with a bit of snow tonight.

Chatel Snow, just left this morning, absolutely glorious day. There was light snow overnight as some of our group left at 3.00 and it was snowing then. Lots of peeps coming up from Monthey this morning as we were on the way down. Sorry to be leaving (again), hoping to be back out in a few weeks.

Actually I was skiing in well over a foot of powder yesterday, next time your out skiing, and away from repeating pointless weather forecasts on the computer, have a look around and you'll see the wind blows it about and makes quite big drifts in some places, depending on the prevailing wind.

Ah - I see - it was drifted snow - I thought you meant a foot had fallen - apologies for the misunderstanding.
No need for the abuse about weather forecasts - as I do get on the mountain virtually every day - normally off the beaten track, but thanks for the advice.

nevis1003, why do you feel the need to be needlessly rude to people on this forum on a regular basis?
Chatel Snow is not "repeating pointless weather forecasts on the computer" - he's giving everyone info on what the various forecasting models are saying, as well as first hand observations. It seems that he is too polite to say this to you, but I am not; you come across as being both ungracious and patronising in your attitude on here. And we both know that I am not the first poster to point this out to you.
Anyway, back on topic - conditions on Mt Chery were lovely today, and as usual, no-one over there. Admittedly very intermediate skiing and slow lifts have something to do with this; but pistes were pretty much in perfect condition up top, with nice sugary slush to boat around in down low. It is pretty warm in Morzine though, so this could make for an icy start tomorrow as stuff freezes overnight...?

Hey Harry - its no problem to me - I did actually misunderstand nevis1003 and glad he got that powder stash yesterday - as the lee slopes I was on yesterday didn't get that sort of extra boost and I got frustrated with the clatter from the layer below the relatively thin cover of fresh snow.
Re. snow reporting - all I try and do is give as accurate a picture as I can of what has actually fallen. There is nearly always wind involved higher up the mountain, making measurements pretty meaningless a lot of the time.
The snow / skiing industry has been notorious in the past for exaggerating snowfalls, so If we can help to give an accurate picture to those thinking of visiting here etc - then that's got to be a good thing.
Just started snowing v lightly as I type.

I corrected him after he, as he says misunderstood what I said about skiing in powder.
I don't understand why he re-posts weather forecasts which are much more accurate in their original state.
But if he likes doing that it's a free country.
Similarly some of the stuff you post about about piste conditions, on or off piste, is quite inaccurate.
The best place to determine weather or snow/avalanche conditions in the Chablais is here http://www.meteofrance.com/previsions-meteo-montagne/bulletin-avalanches/chablais/OPP01

Which forecasts are more accurate in their original state for Chatel?
You are wrong re. the best place to determine the weather for our local area - that can be found in the paid for Meteo France "fax" or subscription forecast for this area - which is not available for free on the internet - but presumably you knew that?

Had a cracking day, before the clouds rolled in and the temp dropped.
Climbed the Pointe de Vorlaz and had a powder bowl and mountain all to myself for the 15 minutes it took to get to Brochaux.
Noticeably colder from about 2:30-3:00 onwards, and a few flakes started falling about 4, getting quite heavy in the early evening up here in Avoriaz, but it soon stopped.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for some more fresh overnight.

No need to leave! Ignore nevis: we can have some fun with the grumpy little pleb whilst you just get on with your reporting, which is much appreciated by the socially normalised people reading/posting on this thread.
He may be a bit hard of thinking, but the rest of us appreciate your efforts.

Chatel Snow, I can understand there is quite some time and effort in your postings here and if that is what drives you to stop then it's fair enough. Don't let one tosser stop you though, the thrust of the comments from the regulars here is that we like your input.
I particularly appreciate on the ground condition reporting which coupled with some knowledge of the area helps in determining where to go and has enabled me to steer a few people to the likely best conditions.
Whether you continue to post or not I'll keep checking your site for your views on the forecast and your (photo) views of the area. It's been good to try and spot where you have been skiing from the photos as you seem to favour the area near me. I think I've worked out where your favourite wide open off piste area is
We didn't manage that beer over Christmas - maybe on the lad's trip 8-15 March.
Keep up the good work.
