8 degrees in Les Gets today. High cloud cover and some great runs in the morning but getting very sticky by lunchtime. Wax your skis!
Lots of brown earth showing through under the lifts but as always the piste badgers have done a great job maintaining the runs.
Huge increase in activity this afternoon as midterm kicks in with a vengeance! Sad to be going home but glad we got a great week in!!!

The avalanche bulletin is hand produced by Meteo France - its just about their latest output today!
... and their automated output for Chamonix was suggesting similar this morning
http://www.chamonix.com/meteo,11,fr.html
Do you mean Cham meteo .com - as they are not Meteo France ?

Chatel Snow, i do hope you are right as i plan an early start to enjoy.
Chamonix Meteo is operated/funded by meteo france, hence all the kerfuffle a few years ago when they threatened to pull the funding.

Its a completely different forecast to Meteo France - if you compare the daily Meteo France fax bulletin with the Cham Meteo one - they are completely different forecasts.

Chatel Snow, well!
My apologies.
I stand well and truly corrected.
I guess (?) I must have jumped to conclusions during the argy bargy some years back over MF threatening to close their agence in Cham and I am quite sure - although I / it was clearly wrong - that there was an implication that the Chamonix Meteo site was theirs (why it wouldn't bear corporate branding is something I have never thought to question, this being France and all, it's amazing that there's a website at all).
Every day is a school day.
Anyone else who's seen me spouting nonsense on the ownership or funding of the Cham Meteo site, apologies to you too. I'll only be doing this once.
So, who does does fund and run Chamonix Meteo? As it's been the go to source for local forecasts since I've been hanging out round here? (1988...) Edit: Now I'm not even sure of that. A quick search reveals it to be "EMB Weather Services" incorporated in a youthful 1994 http://www.societe.com/societe/e-m-b-weather-services-393901699.html
It certainly gains credibility from being the source recommended by the TO and PGHM...

under a new name, Crikey - no need to apologise!!!
I'm not sure of the origins of the site or who runs it, but its one I have always used it and found to be generally very very good. The comments below the Piste Hors article sum up why it is important - in that the Meteo France mountain bulletin is a subscription one, hence the importance of free sites such as Cham Meteo - especially for the climbing fraternity.
The other one, which presumably you use also is http://www.meteo-chamonix.org/drupal/p-r-e-v-i-s-i-o-n-s/alpes-du-nord - and these guys put their names on the forecasts.
The tourist office in Chatel uses and posts the cham meteo .com forecast - rather than paying for the Meteo France one - but then, the Meteo France fax bulletin is posted on most days at the top Super-Chatel telecabine station and other lifts post the GFS based Meteo Blue forecasts - which is all very bizzare as the 3 forecasts could be (and often are) v different on a particular day.

Was very warm when we left Ardent this evening. Walking anywhere near a chalet was like asking to be buried in snowfall from the roof. We're off home now, but fingers crossed the forecast is right for those coming out over half term.

Medium rain in Morzine, so lore runs will be rubbish - but hopefully some fresh up higher!
It always seems to rain in Morzine! Usually means great skiing if you drive up to Ardent and go from there...

Hmmm.... Rain in Morzine (950m), quite heavy snow settling in Chatel (1200m), Pas de Morgins (1450m) likely to be accumulating a bit.
Depending on which hire car/tyres he gets I think the valley route might be the smart move at 2.00 am Sunday for my brother.

DJL, Heading to bed now - but 2cm on van roof - all surfaces covered - including road in and snowing moderately to heavily. If it continues at same rate - then Morgins pass might be an issue later - if ...

Not been following closely but DJL hope your brother got in ok as I suspect it was bad, our friends arrived at 11pm and couldn't make the last bit up the drive without chaining. Snowing hard since around 9pm or so and all night, I guess we are at around 1100m. Must be a good 20 cm here. Still coming down now it's all very white indeed.

Looks like a powder fest morning - still snowing moderately - heading up for first lifts.
Euro weather models and forecasts have thrashed the American GFS forecasts yet again on this snowfall!

Awesome morning of powder - 35cm to 40cm higher up and just shy of 30cm in the resort first thing. The area we were in was deserted - again!

Chatel Snow, was snowing consistently until we left at 15h00. Tomorrow should be epic. I am at my desk...what is the point of living near the alps when you have to work on a bluebird day I ask?

cracking day. Marginal viz at times, but awesome snow. First face-shots of the season. Was knee deep at times, and it's still coming down.

Morzine had the snow overnight and still had big flakes at the ranfolly bowl this morning. The lower Morzine slopes went slushy quite quickly and we downloaded on the gondola. Small flakes are still falling at the town, but it isn't settling worth a damn.

sarah, Haven't heard from my brother as I've been out orienteering since 07.00 and just back. Either crashed and lost in a gulley or made it over and enjoying the snow. He managed to get a hire car with winter tyres so I'm guessing the latter.
Looking very snowy on the webcams
