^ good stuff, bit more publicity than usual which is good!
Word is the snow is great (8-10 cm fresh overnight) but visibility today pretty poor. Tomorrow looks like the better day but whether or not it'll be busier what with word getting round about the opening is anyone's guess!
Apparently the home road filled up overnight too so effectively (what with the snow making effort on the zig zags) Cairngorm has top to bottom skiing on opening day, IIRC that's not all that common for the first day of the season.

I went up the local hill today to test out my thumb hankies. Snow is starting to fall in Scotland, there could be some sliding soon...

Winter tires went back on a couple of days ago roga so failing road closures, I should be OK. Saw two cars off the road today though, waiting for recovery. Both of them were BMW's, within about a mile of each other, one of them was a huge blue BMW X something lying on its side showing its tires that were about 2 foot wide.

roga, the biggest Munro in the far distance is Ben Lawers. It was busy on the hill today, due to it being a Saturday. There was one blader and a young snowboarder on the local hill. Not enough snow yet for me to lug my skis up there. Weather was nice today though! It was incredibly icy on the path though, definately need at least a pair of ice - grippers.

Headed up to Cairngorm today with my son. Truly amazed at the quantity of snow, snow on the A9 getting progressively deeper all the way up from Coylumbridge. Up top the snow conditions could only be described as incredible. Basically just the Ciste Fairway open, the T bar back up, and a run down to the bottom across the Traverse and through the Zig Zags. Some decent off pistey type stuff below Fiscalli. Vis was pretty appalling first thing but you do get used to it, got brighter after lunch but it also got busier.
All in all a fantastic start to the Scottish season but I have to say I am pretty knackered tonight!

^ lol, too busy smiling to post much I'll guess
Photos look absolutely amazing, the cover on the East Lady is stonking for the time of year from what I can see - was really struck by that (and a tad jealous lol)
What a start to the season, let's hope it carries on eh!

roga, east lady and lady herself were great fun... Lots of just hidden burns and ditches around though.
Lack of lifts leading to very long queues was a dampener for the 3,000,000 skiers and boarders though.
Ross has some photos.

Ski toured to Macdui today. Very busy with tourers and near perfect weather other than some occasional mist.
Snow good but look out for rocks!

moffatross: www.Glencoe is still saying that the access chair is closed for maintenance. Could that be up and running by the weekend?
We could be well up for a drive north - with touring kit on stand by given the Cairngorm queues situation last weekend.....

Nevis set to open on weekend.
One of Glencoe's earliest openings in recent years.

But strangely no mention whatsoever of that on the Nevis Range website And the website's snow report says 'Not available at present.'
Not too clever, or very informative.
We've got one night (Sat) and one ski day (Sun) - so will it be Nevis or Glencoe? (For a change from our regular trips to the Gorm). Or will it be Cairngorm after all? Choices, choices!
